bentley speed 8

Updated

I dont think I've mentioned it but you can change your cars before a race. Just let me know in a post. So if you sign up with a particular car and find out another one is faster, just post it and I will change it. Just do it before November 5

Thanks for signing up [emptyspace] and Goody04

I want to get one thing straight. It is OK to run the race to a certain point for practice. Check race specific rules in my first post for the rule on how how to practice under race conditions.

I didnt expect the Bentley Speed 8 to be this competitive. I thought the R8's and Pescarolo cars would run all over it but Im wrong. And man these are faster than I thought. 225 mph down the backstretch in the Pescarolo Sport in qualifying.

As for the race, I'm thinking it may come down to not the fastest car or driver, but who has the best strategy for fuel and tires. I know the Bentley Speed 8 has a huge fuel bag, but with 3 drivers entered so far and 3 different makes, and the qualifyng times so close, this WILL be interesting. 👍

im barelly hitting 220 iirc, but, im also running max downforce. i know the bentley can hit ~240 stock with half the downforce on le sarthe 2. but, over the complete lap im still faster with max downforce.

Max downforce is probably the way to go. I got 225 with max downforce. Thats with the engine 5-800 RPM over the redline right before the rev limiter hits.

But I notice you're faster than me through the first sector. Maybe I just have more topend gear? Where I seem to get you is turns 3 and 4

Turns 3 and 4 are very tricky. You got to use the brakes to point the car the right way, and you got to hit them at the very last moment.

Have you practiced with harder tires yet? It was harder than I thought it was to drive consistant lap times around an oval

Very fine lap 👍

I'm sure French engineering can beat it, though

yeah, i lose a lot of time there since i can never hit it consistantly. i guess its because i see the track as only having two corners. most of the time i get in too deep on the brakes and either dont make the apex or fight off a big slide.

3. Bentley Speed 8 ([unfocused])
erm? lol]

Made a small improvement 👍

But still 1 second slower than the other Audi R8, not sure where im losing so much time :nervous:

T1 14:040
FT 26:629

I seem to be losing half a second in the first split, so it looks like some setup changes need to be done 👍

updated

Goody04 I dont know what IForceV8's secret is but I'm trying like a madman to find grip that can match his. I stumbled upon something that helped, but only a quarter of a second faster. Now my car is losing 2 HP of unregainable power every 15 laps of qualifying runs, so I'm digging myself into a hole the more I try. I'm thinking about focusing on Race setup now after giving the Q setup a few more shots. I will probably be forced to buy a new Pescarolo Sport so I can have max power for the race

And empty space I have no idea how I came up with that lol. And wait until you run turns 3 and 4 in the race, it is really tough to get through them consistantly with constantly changing tires, not to mention traffic as much as 50mph slower

Dark Elite
Audi R8

I would very much like to run this race entirely in A-Spec, partly because if I remember correctly I did one stint in B-Spec the first time round so this will be good for my conscience as well as my competition skills! Once Suzuka 1000km is out of the way, I'll post up a qualifying time. That reminds me, I have two days to get Suzuka done... I'd better get my finger out!

Hopefully I won't knacker my R8 in qualifying, she already has 300mi on her and this might start to wear her down... Oh well, if it does it does :p

You'll hear from me soon

Good to have another quality driver onboard 👍

That makes 5 drivers. I'm hoping for at least 10. If we dont get 10 I will consider cancelling this series after race 1. I dont and I'm sure you guys dont want to have a 5 driver endurance series. I see no point in dragging this on for 2-3 months if there is only 5-6 drivers, and most likely only 3-5 will turn in a time. I welcome any comments on that.

And on a rather large sidenote, there will most likely be weight penalties given out at the road courses to even things up.

Earth, thanks. I think if we get six or seven drivers it's still worthwhile though... Weight penalties are a good idea, by the way, because the Beemer simply does not match the R8 and Speed 8, still less the Pescarolo.

Oh, and my qualifying time -- If I can raise another 4,500,000cr. I might run a few dozen more laps but as it is I'm running the engine down so my time stands at

T1 - 0'13.321
Total - 0'25.547

I'll post again if that changes rather than edit so you don't miss it 👍 (Updated 22/10/05 at 15:15 GMT in this post because nobody saw the original time :p I bettered it too quickly!)

If my calculations are correct, I've taken pole position until someone knocks me down again :)

DE

Hey Dark Elite..I'm still interested in running this event if you need a head-count or something like that!

Thx-

SimRaceDriver:

im not so sure about the weight penalities since ive seen that todays car are more balanced than yesterdays cars. usually just a matter of set up. shouldnt that have brought up before the championship begun since it is quite signifcant?

SimRaceDriver, Cool. It's not my series, talk to Earth :p but thanks for replying to my PM here. We need more entries, though!
Normally it's not like me to ask for competition :) but have a shot at a few qualifying laps.
Hope you stick with us and go through till the final 👍

I'm not entiiiiiirely sure about weight penalties, I think Earth needs to try out all the cars and if he finds an imbalance in their capabilities, penalise as such. I think we proved that the R8s can do Super Speedway better than Henri's version of them, but maybe it's just on this track. It'd take an entire series for us to really find out what cars are better, wouldn't it?

DE

Ok everybody calm down calm down. I said I MAY cancel the series if there isnt alot of interest shown. But having more time to think about it and after reading the responses from the drivers I came to realize the series can run quite well even if we only have around 6 reliable drivers, which I think we do have now. I say reliable because it doesnt matter if you have 10 drivers signed up and only 4-5 turn in times.

I have done extensive testing at the next race in R246 (b-spec, identical suspension setup) and the results look something like this:

Audi R8
Pescarolo +0.300
Bentley +1.000

Dark Elite made a good point that it would probably take a whole season to find out if there is an unfair advantage to one car or another. I dont think it will take quite a whole season, but the weight penalties will most likely happen before the season is over with, if they do happen at all, and depending on what happens at R246. If the cars are more equal on the road courses, then no weight penalties may be added.

apologizes to [empty space] and others about bringing up weight penalties so late, but it is not unusual for racing series to try and even things up midseason. NASCAR has done this many times

a quick way to get money, go to eurpean events, touring car championship, get a good touring car, give it R4 racing tires, all the hp it can handle, and B-spec the first 4 races, start and quit the last one and boom

60,000 - 4 race wins
75,000 - championship win
740,000 - mercedes clk gtr

= 875,000 credits for 17 laps of b-spec racing. fastest way i know of to get 4.5 million credits

I got 3 pescarolos in my garage right now. I'm sure the number will be in the double digits before this championship is over

replied in the interest thread.

as for the race, my q time is final ... sorry, im just not a huge fan of ovals :( ill get to my race when q results are final.

[edit - the race itself should be interesting here. when i previewed the race there was a sauber and a r92c and with both cars having a 100hp advantage over todays cars stock. ive a feeling im going to be pushed out of the way a few times. the fgts shouldnt be as much as a problem, or, werent a problem for me when i won the le sarthe race in 03 pescarolo sport by 1 minute :D )

 true. I won't reply to your whole post because I agree with it all, so yes to all :p except for testing in B-Spec, maybe Bob doesn't like some cars? Meh, time will tell!

My qualification time is in no way final :sly: but I'll let it stand until I get knocked back down again... Breaking twenty-five seconds is my ultimate target here.

Just to update you Earth, got to pass. Sorry, just didn't get far enough in game to run this yet.
Shame. You've got nearly 2 weeks you could get there :dopey:

I was reading the original post on this page, and I'm assuming that this will be paid out through the game. What can we do with this money in terms of improving our cars. Privateer teams in the LMES and ALMS rely on winnings to improve there teams through R&D all the way to buying a better transporter. I know it is too late now to make a big change but I was wondering if there was anyway to do things to our cars to improve them (if we are victorious) in a better way than someone who didn't finnish as well? Also, with everyone that has posted I'm sure the majority are interested in the P1, P900, and the like style cars but what about at least a GT Class, maybe? If we could run a class with Callaway C12's, Chevy Z06's or maybe C5-R, Viper GTS-R, Pagani Zonda LM and the like. SORRY I seem to be rambling. Whole lotta ideas coming into my haed at once!! :dunce: OKAY!

Question(s):

Is there anyway to put in a team/car development aspect into the series?

Would anyone be interested in running a GT Class? With cars like Chevrolet Corvette C5-R, Dodge Viper GTS-R, Pagani Zonda Race Car, Gillet Vertigo Race Car,
Nissan GTR Concept Race Car, Ford GT LM Edition, and the Ford GT LM Edition II.

ANYWHO, sorry if this post was to confusing to read. Gimmie a shout with thoughts (anyone) that's all.

Dave

P.S. I could run the GT Class, in assosiation with you - we can discuss this.

a - teams would be nice ... id like to use my old gt1/2 team name back from when i did a few races at the gtf. I.S.o.S. (no, not in search of sex :P)

b - i think youre miss understanding the credits hes pointing out in the first post here. thats simplely the amount of credits youll win for winning the race in game :)

I think teams would be a good idea but with only six or seven competitors I don't think it'd work... If we had more people it'd add a nice extra element though! :)

The idea of upgrades from winnings is good, but the thing is with these cars you can only buy turbochargers and NOS.. And that's it! You'd run out of mods very soon :p and besides, modifying these cars only serves to unbalance them (in my opinion, anyway!).

[empty space], I'm not going to ask you what ISoS stands for! :dopey:

Oh, it's just occured to me Earth, halfway through the season the chassis' on our cars will probably go... Are we allowed to increase rigidity now, and refresh the chassis if it dies?

DE

First of all, I read all your replys.

Second, I looked around GT mode again and ran across some interesting things....

Third, I really really want another class now.

Fourth, to institute all these new changes we will have to startover. Q times thrown out, everything, but its up to you guys. Seeing that there isonly 5 of us, and I'm sure we want the best possible series, this shouldnt be toomuch of a problem.

And finaly, the credits could be used on tires, how many or what type you can use. Just an idea for now

OK, A day ago I was thinking about multiple classes and timed races. Multiple classes at a specific lap event like the 300km of R246 won't work, because the LMP cars would complete 60 laps in lets say 60 minutes, and the GT cars would complete it in around 67 minutes. So how do you score them? Timed races was the only posible way, but GT endurance races only have 3 timed races that allow you to use racing tires, and two of them are 24 hours long. So I was stuck with a big problem. Practice has no tire wear so it was out of the question. Arcade mode lacked setup options and has a different feel.

Then it hit me

In a 24 hour race, why not just run to a certain time limit, like 4 hours? Once your 4 hours into a 24 hour race at lasarthe or nurburgring look at your lap counter and time as you cross the finish. Bingo. Timed races at Nurburgring and Lemans. 4 hours, 8 hours 12 hours, however long you want. Now at Fuji 1000km and Suzuka 1000km same rule applies only the race can last nolonger than 5 hours becasuse thatsw about how long it takes a LMP car to run it

So a schedule could look like this:

2:45'00.000 of Infineon Sports Car Course

4 hours of Suzuka

4 hours of Fuji

8 hours of Nurburgring

12 hours of lemans

or anyway you want it (not final race lengths or order)

Yes or no?

And a better, unique way to handle the cars. Only 2 of each car available.

Pescarolo #17
Pescarolo #18

Audi #1
Audi #2

Bentley Speed 8 #7
Bentley Speed 8 #8

And so on

GT class would include: (2 of each available)

Dodge Viper GTSR Team Oreca
Chevorlette C5R
Pagani Zonda Race Car
Ford GT40LM Race Car SpecII
Nissan GTR Concept Race Car

And as for the long events, you will have to, just as they do in real life, let 2 B-Spec buddies to do some of the driving. You name them etc.

And whoever picks the same car as you is automatically your teammate, and must share information etc

Also another rule that could be incorporated is a pit stop tire change penalty for hitting the wall at any time or getting into a sand trap, not grass, but sand. This will show who is good at keeping it between the curbs, and punish the sloppier drivers who take advantage of GT's lack of damage. This will also give the slower more patient drivers a better chance at winning. And will mix things up ALOT during the race

Sorry fellas for wanting so much change so late. I feel like a complete amateur at hosting a Long race series...well I am an amateur at it anyway. Dont feel too bad if you already ran the 150, I did already too but if your like me you will glady accept change...at least one more time. I think these different races and rules would do so much and would help this series, now called ESES (Earth's super endurance series) If you're like me than you will want the best possible rules etc in season 1

Once again sorry for asking so much so late...I just had a ton of ideas run through my mind Sunday evening and I'm sure you guys will like the ideas...if not OK

edit: chassis refreshed will be allowed and team development...I will try to think of a way to incorporate that

just dont get too technical ... i just want to go into a race, pick whatever tyres i want to use, tweak the set up and go for it.

glad to have the positive response 👍

New rules, new schedule, and new car select with tons of other stuff will be posted sometime between Tuesday and Thursday. I would put the SS150 on pause until further notice

Oooh Earth, you've just completely redone the entire season! (And scrapped my pole position :p) I personally would rather leave the races as they are but add in a GT Class, allowing everyone to drive LMP and GT in the same race. Then we could see who was better at handling LMP cars at what track and ditto for GT cars. I'm not entirely sure about the new setup you've devised. It may work very well, but (maybe it's just me) it seems very confusing at the moment..

For the record, I'm against limits on how many cars can be used, and I'm even more against forced teammates. I don't really like the 'punishment system' you've come up with either, because if people are taking advantage then they won't follow that system anyway.

I for one will probably not be able to run any race longer than four hours, ever. Just the way my life is, I don't get that much time.

Earth
chassis refreshed will be allowed
What about rigidity increase (or rollbars whatever you want to call it)?

EDIT - Just re-read that... It could be misunderstood, what I'm trying to say is go and make all the new rules and schedule, and then I'll let ya know if I like it better or not! :)

EDIT2 - If you do do that with the two of each car only thing, Audi R8 #1 is mine :p

DE

oh, and ... fwiw - i didnt do the suzuka 1000km race because i didnt want to use b-spec.
