Ours don't (USA on NBC). They would much rather make excuses. :rolleyes:
 
The other thing our commentators do is talk up the competitiveness of athletes who are not expected to win medals and who our athletes will likely beat. That way, when(/if) our athletes do beat them, they look really good.

Alternatively, they will look at the favourites for a race and try to explain away why they're not really that competitive at all, to make it look like the Australians are in with a chance.

It's all part of how they pile pressure and expectations on our athletes. Bloody Eddie McGuire.

He must have been smoking for years after. He's probably burnt out. Phelps has been at 3 Olympics so far, though Sydney was just one event. He's not planning on going to Rio and his training wasn't what it should have been if he was planning on another good haul. It will be interesting to see how he does in the other events.



There were a lot of screw-ups in the gymnastics qualifiers.
 
I just hope he does quit after this. I don't want him to pull a Misty May-Kerri Walsh and compete in the next two Olympics after you officially retire :lol:.
 
I'm content with the Channel 9 coverage. It's not good, but the money is not worth how much I'd probably watch out of the Foxtel package.

Here, the BBC is showing GB related and the high profile sports on BBC1, other stuff on BBC3, and then we have 24 HD Olympic channels (at no extra cost) showing every sport that's happening. I think we're pretty well covered. :lol:

I have to say, I'm enjoying the BBC commentary and coverage. They seem to be pretty unbiased and fair which is how it should be; when a team performs well they say so, no matter what country they're representing 👍

BBC unbiased?... Nah.

Admittedly i haven't watched much coverage as yet, but the coverage of the mixed double Badminton match (GB vs RUS), was pretty biased IMHO, the woman commentator (don't recall who she was), seemed to be rather smugly heaping praise on GB's Chris Adcock (in particular) & Imogen Bankier, but had nothing really good to say about the Russian team except mild criticism.
Even though the GB pair went on to win the 1st game, i actually LOL'd when Russia beat us, as said commentator fell silent and had nothing to say about the Russian match win....

Don't get me wrong, being a Brummie Brit, i am hoping for us to do well and win plenty gold.. but one thing i can't stand is unbiased commentating.

It's wet for the women's road race (bikes). Only 3 team members for each country as well. I like the smaller field that leads to.

The men should be limited to 3 as well. After all it isn't a team event when it comes to the medals.

Yeah the Channel 9 is okay. Too much interest in the swimming yet again, but that's always been a strong medal place for Australia.

Got to say though I'm a bit put off when the in London host will do a short mention of some TV show that's on after the Olympics. It will happen after an ad break, he'll do a quick mention of the Packer series that's on soon. :grumpy:

Also looks like that old 'empty seats at the olympics' problem is happening again. I'm currently watching Gymnastics and there's some big empty spots up in the stands.

Are the tickets too pricey???

An idea I've got, just using gymnastics for example, surely there'd be plenty of local gymnastics clubs that they could have offered tickets to at greatly reduced prices. Once low sales figures were coming in.
 
No. It's mostly corporate tickets that haven't been given back. There are lots of people who can't get tickets for events getting quite upset about it.

There are some events that haven't sold out but I don't know which ones they are.

We are pretty well covered by the BBC. There's One HD, BBC HD, BBC Three and the new BBC 301HD as well as every feed on the internet and on the PS3 app. Having trouble choosing what to watch!

As for the empty seats they are suggesting what they do at Wimbledon, after 30 mins of no show the seats are resold to queuing public. Considering it was London's top priority to have full events after seeing Beijing they sure have failed miserably so far.

I find it ridiculous that the Football events are struggling to be filled in a Football mad country. Goes to show most are in it for the celebrity and not for the sport, they just want to see their team or big names and don't give a toss about anything else.
 
NBC reporting this morning on the ticket situation and many, MANY empty seats (some shocking footage was shown, entire SECTIONS empty!?!?). They tickets were paid for/part of sponsorship packages.

- The corporations are getting serious heat for the tickets going unused.
- Event organizers are considering allowing fans who purchased seats at the higher levels of the venue to move down to the empty, better, seats
- One American athlete (forgot the sport or it wasnt mentioned) said he could not get seats for his FAMILY, bit during the competition, the seats were only 70% or something similar?

That's crazy. Sorry... That's PANTS!! :)

It's just a silly situation then. Corporate tickets, perhaps this could be the end of it. Probably not though.
 
Dutch rider Marianne Vos just won the Woman's Road Cycle Race! She beat british rider Lizzie Armitstead by 0.01 seconds. EXCITING STUFF! Saw it go past, not at Hampton Court like the men's race though.

Anyone watching the weightlifting at the moment? One of the male Chinese weightlifters seems to have mistakenly been let into the Female lifting.
 
Fantastic stuff in the cycling!! well done to Lizzie Armitstead for getting Britains first medal!! also Andy Murray is a set up v Wawrinka in his first round tennis match..

..but a bit of bad news for team GB, Paula Radcliffe WONT be competeing in the marathon due to her foot injury! :guilty: she must be gutted!

If I can go back to the empty seats at events. Probably the worst was up at Newcastle on Thursday where they were still on sale on the day. The company doing the tickets on behalf of LOCOG( ticketmaster I think) managed to sell 36 tickets in 2 hours despite there being massive queues.

The worst part of this was for a coach loads of Mexican fans who had a 10 hour coach ride to watch the last 20 minutes of their countries match because of this.

Yeah, and quite stupidly for me, while watching BBC on my TV, and RTÉ on my computer, the basketball I was mentioning was actually highlights.:lol:
