Watched women's cycling road course it was outstanding.
 
The arena near me is holding some of the football matches, we went down today and it was really nice to see so many different nationalities out and about enjoying themselves, browsing the shops before the event etc.

The traffic is insane though, nobody knows what they're doing so people are weaving all over the place. I've nearly been hit 3 times in 2 days. :banghead:

Is it just me or does Ryan Lochte look like he's come straight from the beach when he strolls into the pool in shorts, t-shirt and headphones? :lol:
 
He's your typical "surfer dude." He is pretty much the antithesis of Phelps, Phelps is serious and to the point, Lochte (as you can tell from his demeanor and Russell Westbrook-esque fashion choice) is spontaneous and outgoing. I like them both.
 
Swimming:
Rebecca Adlington gets bronze. Slightly disapointed, but its still a medal.
 
She was never expected to get close to a medal in the first place - she was starting in lane 8 and barely qualified, after all...

Unfortunate that networks use this opportunity to boost their prime-time ratings causing this type of muzzling.

The excepted behaviour on this site is not to give results outside of the appropriate thread.

In other words, if you don't want to know the result don't go in the thread.

That's something I've always managed to do in the motorsport forum when I knew I wouldn't be watching a race live.
 
It was requested by Omnis for the American users that do not get a live stream in their own country. Its not daft at all.
 
Kind of agree with Tired Tyres, I don't go in the Walking Dead thread ever as it's broadcast on free to air in the UK long after it is the US. The same should apply to the Olympics as it would anywhere else on the forum surely?

I have to agree - spoiler tags will kill any discussion and completely wreck the thread... how are we meant to talk about events that are happening live?
 
It's not a big deal. Just a kind request. And it's only for the races. There's so much going on in the olympics that this thread is for its general discussion. We don't go in the Hungarian Grand Prix thread to talk about F1 in general. That's for the race itself. Likewise, this is not a thread for such and such track and/or swimming race(s). This is for the general olympics.

Anyway, it's kinda sad that the announcer had to request that the audience not laugh when the 56kg weightlifting victory ceremony began. I guess it's because the guy that won is tiny compared to everyone else.
 
Did you visit the Hungarian GP thread? There was chat abbut the best driver in F1 and there was chat about the 2009 Belgian GP, as well as chat about the race.

But to come back on topic, we don't have (and don't need) threads for all the different sports and events so all Olympics chat has to go here, and spoiler tags do ruin the thread. If you don't want to know the results of a contest, don't visit the thread until you've found out. You also can't guarantee folk will use the spoiler tags.

Actually after the race there's usually a few pages of "Maldonado will kill someone" talk and other musings which carry on until the next race thread is created.

I can't see what spoiler tags will achieve really. Are you hoping to discuss the results a few days later or something?

Pretty good win for GB although their defence looks shaky. Can easily see Uruguay knocking them out.
 
So we do beat UAE in the end. When Sinclair came on we really got right back in the zone. The defense isn't really completely hopeless, it's mainly Tomkins who is completely useless. Problem is, we'd need to put Richards in the middle if we got rid of him and Richards is a better man on the right...maybe the midfield could be a little better and Sturridge should only be used for counters once he's ahead of the defense, otherwise he should not be able to touch the ball more than once or else he won't stop touching it. UAE though impressed me, the good spell they had showed a lot of flair and it worked.

Spain out lol. Mata was funny trying to get that penalty at the end :lol:
 
So, haven't they ever thought to make the field hockey sticks a little longer? Looks like a chiropractor's favorite sport.

They have to be short so that you can quickly switch to a double-handed grip at the top of the stick and take a big swing at the ball/referee/some poor defenders shin.

Loved playing field hockey at school and not just because it was boys vs the girls hockey team. Pity we only got to play it a handful of times as a mess around because I was rather good at it!
 
If it was a bit longer you'd always have a double hand grip. And you wouldn't have to bend over so much.

Also, shame that this one is out.

The American ping pong girl is tied with a Chinese player, its fun to watch in the way of how intense a normally for-fun sport is :).

Just figured out DirecTV has dedicated Olympic soccer and basketball channels :cool:.

Just watching the end of the Spain soccer game.. How on Earth did they lose? They're totally dominating, shots off the bar and keeper making 1v1 saves are just bad luck to me.
 
Probably reminds one of the Switzerland game at 2010 World Cup. But seriously, it's worth it just to see all the pics of Mata in absolute despair :lol:
 
He had good reason. A guy in the 80th minute got shoved down from behind and the foul at the end was a sure penalty. I disagree with that referee.

Poor sportsmanship though, four guys shoving the Honduran down in the corner then whining. Should've been red for one of them, in my opinion 👎.
