Major League Baseball: 2012 Season

So the 2012 Major League Baseball season is 1 month old now and this couldn't have been a good month for a lot of teams. For the first time since 1966 the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox both started the season getting swept 0 and 3. however after the first month, Boston is last in the AL East behind the Toronto Bluejays With a record of 11 wins and 12 loses. The Yankees are 3rd in the AL East with a record of 13 wins and 10 loses. Toronto is between the 2 Superpower teams with a record of 13 wins and 11 loses. Yes the Blue Jays are my team, however The Texas Rangers are looking to be the team to beat with a record of 17 wins and only 7 loses in the first 24 games of the season, While the LA Angels who aquired the Big fish in Albert Pujols and expected to be the powerhouse team in the AL West, are now sitting Last in their division and 8 games back behind the Rangers.

With the Month of April behind us and May just getting us underway, What do you think as a whole what the month of may will bring? Express your feelings about how the season has gone for your favourite team and your predictions on what May and the rest of the season will bring.
 
April is over and Dee Gordon has hit more home runs than Albert Pujols.

Anyway, Arizona started off great by winning their first 7 games, then after that things kind of leveled off and went down hill a bit. Our last home stand was horrible and didn't really do much for our rankings other than make us slide down below SF and CO. We've lost quite a number of players to injuries, including a starting pitcher and our center fielder (Chris Young) who started out the year on fire, then ruined it by making an awesome catch against the wall in left-center and messing up his shoulder in the process.

The current road trip has been much better, and we're 4-1 so far with that only loss being a walk-off in Miami. Our starting pitching has been awesome, including Joe Saunders who currently has the best ERA in all of baseball at 0.90. 👍 He's pitching tonight, so hopefully he can continue the winning trend. And hopefully we get Chris Young back soon as well.
 
ASTROS SWEEP! We won 8-1 over the New York Mets. It was a 15-hit afternoon for the Astros compared to the 7 hits the Mets could muster. The Metropolitans will return home for a weekend series hosting the Diamondbacks. Meanwhile, we'll continue our home stand to take on the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals. If we can keep up the offense that we've sustained all season, we may have a chance to steal some games from the Cardinals over the weekend. Day off for the Astros tomorrow.
 
This just in...

...two-run walk-off homer by Ian Desmond helped Washington blast past Arizona. Nationals win 5-4 over the Arizona Diamondbacks. It began with a Bryce Harper double followed by the big homer by Ian Desmond. More heartbreak for the D-Backs. Trust me- my Astros know what it's like to deal with the Nationals when we were losing in our four-game set at the Nationals earlier this season. Nationals are tough at home. Bryce Harper just makes them even more better.

Nationals vs. Dodgers might be an NLCS Preview the way the two teams are playing right now.

Ya this month hasn't been kind to the Blue Jays. they're losing to baltimore and tampa bay, however the starting pitching has been nuts good. The BULLPEN we have is suppose to be the best we had in a long time. however the bullpen has blown 8 saves thanks to Fransisco Cordero and Surgio Santos. Santos is okay when he has his stuff, however we need to have a 3 run lead to bring in cordero.

No the Nats just flew out of the gate. the way they're playing they will play to their average as a ball club before the season is over. i don't think that the dodgers will not make the playoffs. however it's a hell of a start for the Dodgers.

Yeah I saw that. I wanted CO to win, but that was a BS call.
 
After I saw the N.Y. Mets' Facebook fan page, there were people who referred to my Astros as a Triple-A team or the "lowly" Astros. Baseball is really one of those sports that has LOTS of parity. You can be a crappy team yet still have just enough to take down the better teams. The 2012 Houston Astros are much better than the 2011 Astros in my view. So it's not like we're some crappy team that is somehow on a good stretch run. In no way are we great, but this is a better team than what I've initially thought. I'd be happy even if we win two or all three games against the Cardinals in our next series. I just want the Astros to keep playing great and more importantly- avoid finishing dead last in the division and overall.


As for this season, I was most surprised about how the Yankees and Red Sox have started out- losing three straight. * Baltimore going from their old logo to the cartoon Oriole bird somehow has made them better. * The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have been in Hell with their record so far, and I'd get off of Albert Pujols' back about getting homers. He'll find his stride and start banging balls out of the park eventually this season. Some have gotten on him more like wondering when Tiger Woods would win a major. * I hate to say it, but I really like the Dodgers right now with their offense and their play. I am also buying the Nationals and how their season is going.


IF THE SEASON ENDED TODAY, here are your leaders. I even added two teams that I think would be the Wild Card winners, assuming the teams with the two best records besides division leaders were selected:

AMERICAN LEAGUE:
AL EAST: Tampa Bay (17-8)
AL CENTRAL: Cleveland (12-10)
AL WEST: Texas Rangers (17-8)
AL WILD CARD: Baltimore Orioles (16-9) and Oakland Athletics (13-13)

NATIONAL LEAGUE:
NL EAST: Washington Nationals (15-9)
NL CENTRAL: St. Louis Cardinals (16-8)
NL WEST: Los Angeles Dodgers (17-8)
NL WILD CARD: Atlanta Braves (15-11) and Arizona Diamondbacks (13-12)


Still- there's a long way to go. These standings are SURE to change. No action for my Astros today, so I'll just let you all chat about your boys and how they're doing on this fine Thursday.
 
Just got our first hit.......in the top of the 5th inning, then the next batter promptly ruined it by grounding into a double play. :rolleyes:

And a career looks like it will be coming to an end. During batting practice while shagging fly balls, Yankee closer Mariano Rivera landed awkwardly and fell down. He needed to be carted off the field. It was just confirmed that he has a torn ACL. He's done for the year and likely that will be how his career finishes.
 
I Saw that. Why the best closer in baseball, trying to catch fly balls?? this is going to be a huge blow to the yankees bullpen. their bullpen isn't as potent as it was in the past and now with Rivera gone and his career most likely finished. this is going to be a longer season for the Yankees.

It was a freak injury. I'm sure a lot of pitchers do what he does and even if they don't, he's done this for so many years before every game. If he just started doing this last week you'd have a point but since he started this years ago there's no argument.
