Hell yes!!! Rubber game tomorrow afternoon here in H-Town! So we're NOT going to get swept in this series. The Astros went from falling on their faces early 4-0 to manning up and taming the Rangers 6-5 in a nationally-televised game. A big part of our offense came on banging out jacks. We won on seven hits and one error for Houston. It was nine hits and two errors for the Texas Raners. Astros and Rangers will clash one last time here in Houston tomorrow afternoon.


How did your team(s) do today/tonight?
 
Nice 2-0 win today. One of those runs even came without a hit. Leadoff walk, sac bunt, wild pitch then sac fly got him all the way home. Wade Miley pitching great as usual and picks up the shutout win.
 
Exciting come-from-behind win for Houston last night. Today? Well... let's use mafia speak- Texas put a hit on us. We got whacked 6-1. The majority of their offense was done in the first inning when the Rangers put a five spot on us. Defense kept us in the game, but we couldn't do much of anything since. Only thing to feel good about is that we managed to avoid getting swept. We're now 1-6 on the season in the case of Rubber Games. So we'll either have to try to go up 2-0 or go for the sweep. Or of course, don't get swept at all. It was 13 hits (including another damned Rangers homer!) with no errors. Astros managed only 5 hits with no errors.

Maybe we'll have better luck in our next series- 3 games vs. the Cubs here in H-Town.


On a more positive note, at least my Astros getting whacked is NOTHING compared to the whack job Minnesota is taking at the Brewers. It was a 16-2 in the Middle of the 8th as former AL team- Milwaukee- is pounding Minnesota. Pretty sure Twins fans probably arranged to see eye doctors and get with a psychologists after getting news of this beatdown by the Brewers.


The only non-Interleague match is St. Louis at the Los Angeles Dodgers later tonight. Otherwise, tell me how your team(s) did with Interleague play today.
 
How the hell do you get swept by the Mariners? The. Mariners. The Seattle. ****ing. Mariners! :mad:

Reports are saying that Lance Berkman might have torn his ACL. Career might be over. :(

EDIT- now reports say torn meniscus. That's 6-8 weeks.

Oh, well. No shutout, but we won 8-4. Cubs decided to wait until the final inning to stop failing. Still, we managed to get through our 42nd game of the season with our 19th win. I would be on an epic rage if we had let them come back to either tie or win. Important thing is that we won after being up 8-0 in the Top of the 9th. The Cubbies got 11 hits and committed only one error. Astros needed only eight hits and no errors. Where the hell this offense was on Sunday against the Rangers is beyond me. Still, we won- so I'm happy.

...and the Phillies drop back under .500, losing to the ExposNationals 2-1. Not for lack of scoring opportunities, though. Sheesh, runners on second and third, nobody out, and we come up empty-handed. This is getting to be a regular occurrence.

Miami made themselves some highlights last night. Giancarlo Stanton blasted a Grand Slam that ended up going VERY far... so far that it damaged part of the scoreboard! The damage to the scoreboard kind of looked like the state of Nebraska. The Marlins won 6-4 over the Colorado Rockies. The real noise maker, though, was that Stanton's Grand Slam was swung on at about 122-something mph! What a way to make a statement. Remember that Marlins Park is a new ballpark with damage to the scoreboard. Good grief!

It was a much closer game tonight between the Cubs at Astros. I heard we lead things off with a solo jack from my man José Altuve. The Cubbies picked up their own homer later in the game. A big RBI for the Astros put us ahead 2-1 for the win. Cubs outhit us 6-4, and both teams committed one error each. Astros still managed to win 2-1. I think Brett Myers is pretty good as a closer. He was still a fine starting pitcher before taking on the closer role. Heck, I still remember back when Brad "Lights Out" Lidge was our closer. That's how the game ended. 11th save for Myers and Happ picks up his 4th win of the season. The series finale is tomorrow night before heading out on a road trip for a weekend series at the Dodgers as well as at the Rockies for another series.


Elsewhere in the National League, St. Louis handled the San Diego Padres nicely- a 4-0 blank job in St. Louis. Wainwright was the winner coming off of Tommy John surgery. * Omnis' Marlins defended home turf to the tune of a 7-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies. * The New York Mets won 3-2 at the Pittsburgh Pirates. * The Atlanta Braves lost 4-3 at the Cincinnati Reds. * San Francisco went up to the Midwest to meet the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Brewers got a taste of Giant Brew- a 6-4 victory. Cain won for SF.

American League... It was 3-2 as the Yankees took care of the Kansas City Royals in the Bronx. * 8-5 was the score as Tampa Bay put down the Toronto Blue Jays at home. * The Minnesota Twins knocked out the Chicago White Sox 9-2 in Chicago.


Congrats to all winners.

Trout. Much faster, more power and probably a much better fielder. Though I really need to watch them both for week or two to get a better feel.

I'm just going to profess my love for Melky. The dude is a beast and can do everything for you at all 3 outfield positions. Since the start of 2011 he has more multi hit games then anyone in baseball. He is off to a slow start with HRs but has killed it in every other way. Just want to put this video up of his throw from LF today... Beauty.

Also grats to Arias who hit his 1st career HR, the dude has been money for us in Pablos absence. Which is good because he will move to 2B when Pablo comes back. Can't wait for that to happen.
 
Not trying to play on words, but... are the Diamondbacks snakebit? They can't buy a break seems like. The feeling of closing pitching blowing a game is all too common. I remember when my Astros couldn't probably close out games when we had Brad Lidge and José Valverde among others. That's baseball...


[UPDATE] Four of the highest payroll teams are all either last or near last (in no particular order):

* Philadelphia Phillies
* New York Yankees
* Boston Red Sox
* Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Who do you think has the best hope of turning things around? The ESPN people think Philly is best to turn things around. What say you?

I like Trout better,he is an east coast kid. I feel like harper is going to have to smooth out his swing better,he has to many moving parts. The Melkman is the ****,did SF give him an extension or are they haveing talks? In a weird way i am proud of him because he came up with the yanks and i really got to see him develop. I always knew he had potential

They've talked a little as far as I'm aware. Melky was asked about willingness to re-sign mid season and his response was that he loved playing in SF and would be very open to a mid season extension. Its a possibility, I don't recall our FO every doing one mid-season so we'll see. Yeah he started off as a solid player for NY but I guess he had issues in Atlanta. God his **** together with the Royals and has been a beast with the Giants so far filling in for Pablo in the #3 hole. And he adds to his league leading hits today with a RBI Double.

Not only all of that but he takes walks and steals basses too... Solid player.

Now that I've had a chance to calm down and look on the bright side, we were pretty good at the plate last night. Justin Upton finally knocked in some RBI's without the long ball, and Lyle Overbay was 4 for 4 with 2 singles, a double, and the go-ahead home run in the 8th. Ryan Roberts seems to be getting back to his old ways. Unfortunately Chris Young has come back from the DL and has yet to find his old hitting ways as he keeps striking out. Overall hitting was good last night, but a couple errors and horrible relief pitching just ruined our night. If it were any other team, I think we would have won that game, but the Dodgers are on fire right now. I predict another loss tonight and a sweep from LA, but the Brewers coming to town should be some good games.
 
Mets won again, not that it really matters at 24-20. Niese pitched well today. Dickey last night was spectacular and he's the ace of the staff surprisingly.

Harper. Duh. He's younger and better and has way more versatility. He was a catcher his whole life, but the Nats are preserving him by putting him in the OF.

One year of age might not matter if you're 30/31... but as a teenager, he's still growing.

I thought for sure the Dodgers would lose last night with the Harangatang on the hill. I was right in that he was awful, but the DBacks must've been feeling generous because of so many mistakes. The Dodgers are on a streak of 7 6 straight 6-run games, the franchise record being 8 games. The craziest thing is that they're doing it with what is essentially the AAA line-up. On Monday, there was only one opening day starter in the line-up (Ethier).

Dee Gordon had been benched to get his head right, and he was back in the lineup last night hitting eighth... Then he decides to have a 2-hit game. I wouldn't expect him to start tonight.

Ted Lilly is 5-0 with an ERA of 1.79... Let's see if he (and the DodgerTopes) can keep this rolling.

Several more times for when the Astros and Rangers are AL West rivals. Maybe Oswalt did his job for the Astros and just moved on. Still... Oswalt was beast for the 'Stros.

Yeah, that rumor has been flying around for about a week now... Heating up especially since Neftali went down.
 
We swept the Cubs! It was 5-1 here in Houston. A big part of the Astros' win involved us getting an RBI on a nice hit. Then, the Cubbies had us walk in a run with the bases loaded followed by José Altuve getting hit by a pitch. Cubs outhit the Astros again- 10-9. We still won. And any time you get outhit but still win, winning is all that matters. The Astros are now 21-23 on the season.

Up next- we're in Los Angeles for the weekend to entertain the Dodgers followed by a Split Doubleheader on Memorial Day at the Rockies, then two more games (starting Wednesday) at the Rockies. The Astros used to be an NL West team before the West/Central/East alignments. So in a way, this is like old school Astros' baseball.

We were having fun with Ted Lilly but they just spoiled our fun and replaced him in the 4th. Currently leading 8-1. I think we're in "get far enough out front so they can't catch up again" mode. :D
