Tim Lincecum has been the mosto verrated pitcher in the MLB for 2 years.
And he's going to have tommy john surgery in about 3 months.

The Astros were sporting some lovely '70s throwback uniforms, which was fitting because our offense is stuck in the past. We've now lost seven straight games after taking a 4-1 beating. The closer for Cincinnati put on a world-class performance against my Astros. Right now... we're a car that has only one gear- Reverse. Our offense is stuck in neutral, and we need to drive ourselves out of the dirt. Quickly. Guess we're going to fail on national TV tomorrow night to go to eight straight losses. Good news about this losing streak is that this isn't late in the season. Bad news is... we're losing. And I'll be damned if we end up repeating the poor performances of the 2011 season. My boys have GOT to turn it around. It's too early to think Texans football at this point.

Sorry man, it's going to be this way for at least 2 years(this year/next year). After that, string together a couple 75-87 seasons then a couple 83-79 seasons. Jeff Luhnow knows what he's doing.

Either we're crap or our opposition is good... I couldn't watch this game once the Reds started piling on hits and runs. Speaking of hit and run, Astros fail to do either to win, as we just got run over 12-9 by the Reds. We're doing our best losing streak performance until the Astros decide to freaking win games. Back-to-back losing sweeps tomorrow afternoon? Or will the tide change? Back at it tomorrow afternoon to close the series out.

Sorry, but we don't exactly appreciate it when you come in here and talk like Nostradamus. What makes you so sure that everything you say is going to happen? There was not one "I think" or "I predict" it was just talking about the future as if you created it. I'm holding you to your word on all of your statements.
 
We beat Texas again 3-2. Josh Hamilton struck out with the bases loaded with 2 down in the ninth! :)
 
Oh yeah, it was a throwback day for the Giants and Cubs. They both wore there 1912 uniforms to celebrate a couple of the oldest franchises in baseball. 1912 was a good to the Giants, they won 103 games but came up short in a loss against the Red Sox in 8 games. (2nd game ended in a tie in the 11th inning. 6-6 was the final score).

Amazing pitching performances by both pitchers. A hard fought game.
 
Friday night was awesome but I saw none of it. It seemed like poetic justice. No-hitting the defending champs hasn't been done since 1990. We did it against Wainwright, who foiled us in 2006. We did it against Carlos Beltran, who failed to hit and got foiled in 2006. Mike Baxter's saving catch? Off of Yadier Molina, who beat us in 2006 with a HR. Baxter is the Mets' new Endy Chavez and hopefully will be back there soon. I really hope this team can continue to prove the pundits wrong.

But it was one. In contrast Galarraga should have had a perfect game and Jim Bunning should not have had a perfect game. A no-hitter is a no-hitter and you can't take that away from him.
 
The 8-game losing streak for us is... OVER! We won 5-3 today against the Cincinnati Reds. Astros picked up 9 hits and committed two errors; The Reds got 7 hits and no errors. The big key in our win was the Justin Maxwell 2-run jack that put us up for good. Reds ain't sweeping us! Up next... we go from the Reds... to the redbirds. Cardinals at Astros next series.


Elsewhere, I saw a little baseball on TNT as the Yankees at Tigers game was on. Can you believe that on the very first pitch of the game, Derek Jeter belted a home run? Justin Verlander was already looking at a 1-0 hole. Yanks eventually win 5-1. Verlander lost while Hughes picked up the win.

* Atlanta holds off Washington 3-2 in Washington, D.C.

* Another game ended 5-1; Miami downing Philadelphia in Philly. Zambrano won for MIA along with a Bell save. Blanton lost for PHI.

* Toronto beat Boston 5-1 in Toronto.

* The Tampa Bay Rays doubled up the Balitimore Orioles 8-4 at the Rays.

* Oakland got blanked 2-0 at Kansas City.

* Another double-up job was done. This time, the White Sox at home won 4-2 over the Seattle Mariners.


That's all. Congrats to all other winners.
 
Dude, Zambrano was STRAIGHT NASTY TODAY. I think he was just super lucky-- that broken bat could have taken out his achilles and ended his season. He didn't even notice it and it just skirted by as he moved towards first on his covering-base reflex. Then there's the super bomber of a home run, and the sac bunt that turned into a base hit.

Hopefully Zambrano keeps up the good form.

Well, for 1, Lincecum has the weirdest delivery, which of course why his name is "The Freak", other than the fact he weighs like 160.

I'm an Astros fan. I've lived in Houston for 16 1/2 years and know baseball...If they did what their doing back in 2006/2007 when they were supposed to, we wouldn't be having this conversation and they would probably be a playoff team right now. They waited way too long to rebuild because Ed Wade was kinda stupid. Jeff Luhnow is basically the definition of professional. They have some pieces right now but everyone is a rookie pretty much. Once they get some expierience in and their other prospects come up they'll be in good shape. But, right now the Astros won't have a future for at least 2 years. ANYBODY can tell you that and they'll all be right. In 3-4 years, watch out.

Nah Timmy can throw 98 if really wanted to, but there is no reason to when he doesn't need to. He never throws a four seem anymore though always two seem.

Lincecum has great mechanics, he can get high heat with his small size causing no real extra strain. You can't compare Lincecum with Ryan. Completely different bodys, completely different pitchers too. Lincecum doesn't try and overpower people any more, hes a pitcher. He pounds the ball inside and often gets little girly pop ups. Matt Cain is the same way.

Lincecum's mechanics are better than most people realize. Sure, he's a leaner, but he really throws from his toes. A delivery like that of Ubaldo's Jimenez is much more conducive to injury.

It's hard to find a decent picture, but if you ever watch him pitch, he jams he arm back and practically hyperextends his elbow every time:

Jerky motions like that worry me much more than Timmy doing his mega stride.

Awesome game for Arizona today. Hit 3 HR's in a park not known for home runs, including another from Goldschmidt his 2nd consecutive HR hitting game. If he has finally hit his stride....look out.
 
Thanks Schwartz, Villain did an excellent job of breaking it down. Timmy has a rubber band pitching mechanic, which is how he was able to get velocity. Add that to longest stride in the bigs, the deception, and 4 strike out pitches and you have a tough at bat. His mechanics are complex and are out of whack. Hes been doing much better, but the control still isn't back because of a inconsistent release point. He will adjust his mechanics, simply things a bit and turn things around. He isn't a power pitcher, but he still has 4 pitches that can strike you out.

Bonds claims he knows what the problem is but says Timmy has to come to him. :lol:

Timmy is 5'11" and 175 lbs. How does weird delivery equal TJS? Lets take a look at some injury plagued arms... Look at Brian Wilson, someone who's now had TJS twice. Is his mechanics weird? No. Look at Noah Lowry, was his weird? No. Wainwright... Strasburg.. Peavy... Sheets... Prior... K. Wood... J. Santana.. I can go on. Poor mechanics but aren't talked about a lot. Well outside of Strasburg because hes recent and everyone loves him. And Prior is an example of a popular mechanic that's terrible on your shoulder. Not Timmy, and your starting to see a lot of smaller pitchers do what hes doing. Timmy will be looked upon as an innovator.

Small people can't pitch? Look at Roy Oswalt (6'0" 190), Pedro Martinez (5'11" 170), Whitey Ford (5'10" 178).. I can go on.

As for his slow start, Greg Maddux had 5.02 ERA in his first nine starts in 1999. He ended up throwing 219 innings with a 3.57 era. Solid year. Timmy is only 27, he will fix his mechanics, we have one of the best pitching coaches in baseball in Rags.
 
Today is supposed to start up the MLB Draft. Teams are going to be looking to add to their lineups. My Astros will surely be in the mix. We all will wonder who will possibly help out our teams for the future.

Well, they have it when both colleges and high schools are finishing up for the summer so it makes sense.

I'm guessing they do that to give the maximum amount of time for someone to make a decision weather to go back to college for another year or sign.
 
Giants finally managed to pull the trigger on a sweep. A 4 game sweep nonetheless.
 
Astros select SS Carlos Correa, from the Puerto Rican Baseball Academy. 17 years old, 6'4 190 LB. Which means he's 19 :D
The Astros' head scout(Bobby Heck) has a daughter that goes to my school...hopefully he did a good job or she might have to transfer schools.
 
So we drafted a guy named Carlos Correa. This is apparently a great pick for the Astros according to reports. I've heard a story once that a guy named Derek Jeter COULD have been chosen by the Astros long ago. Guess who got the better of the Jeter deal? Certainly NOT the Astros, apparently. Carlos Correa is a Shortstop from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy (I believe).
