I usually see at least two or three a day. Today, I've seen only one so far. Another lady, I think it was Ann Heche....... at least looked like her! :)

Only 60-65% of Beetle registrants are women, folks.
And did you know that women buy almost twice as many manual transmission cars as men?

You should know. But yes, that's what I've heard. About 25% of the cars bought in America by men are manual. About 50% bought by women are.

Hmm.. Those numbers seem a little high, Duke. If 50% of women who buy a car, buy a manual..... and we can assume that 55% of all car buyers are women (since there are more women), then that means more than 25% of all vehicles out there in the US are sticks.

I though this number was closer to 12-15%.

Most of the female drivers I know either: a)doesn't like stick shift or b)doesn't know how to drive with a stick shift.

thats cause most ford f150's are automatic . also, minivans...men might be buying them, but the might be getting autos for either of the two reasons

(1) not available in purchased car

(2) wife does not want a manual

I haven't seen a manual F-150, since mid - late 90's!

One of my friends has one - blue '99 with a 4-speed manual (one of the very last if not THE very last four-speed manual). I'm in awe of the thing - he doesn't understand what the fuss is about.

I learned to drive stick in early 90's Ford Ranger and F150. Ahhhhh, the memories! :)

P.S. No, I didn't hit anything. Ranger's transmission, that's another story. :D

Final report, five more: 4 women, 1 man
- blue hatch/man ~20s
- ? hatch/woman ~60s
- ? hatch/woman ~50s
- ? hatch/woman ~50s
- ? hatch/woman ~20s

Brings total to:

10 women, 5 men - nearly in line with my 60-65% figure (it's 66.7%).

I saw just "one", again! This time, it was one of those wo"man" type person. You know, like Pat from Saturday Night Live. I coudn't tell his/her sex. :ouch:

Have you ever gone to the airport and played 'guess the sex'?

I guess the more appropriate - and perhaps, much stranger - question is 'have you ever gone to the airport to play 'guess the sex'?

It's easy to do at the airport because people are everywhere, it's quiet, and people stare all the time. Some people you truly can't guess.

M5, that's kind of weird. Sounds almost as weird as the "Train Spotting" some Brits do.

Last time I did that I was returning to Portland from a trip, and I seriously couldn't tell the sex of EITHER of the person in front of me, or the person picking IT up. I had to look at their car to tell. It was a scooby (not that it being a subaru helped), but it had a rainbow and a pink triangle on the back window. Maybe that's jumping to conclusions, but I'm pretty sure I figured it out. But if they hadn't gotten in the car right in front of me, I'd have never known!

I don't know what the deal is! I saw only one, again. It was male, a young kid, with his girlfriend. I think it was her car.
