It looks like it can be repaired, but it will be an expensive repair bill.

"Involved" as in travelling in the same F1 convoy and not directly causing the accident in question? Sure.

Ouch. McLaren won't be happy with whoever was driving that. Just goes to show money can't buy skill.

Or some other very unfortunate circumstance happened in which the driver found himself spinning wildly out of control and smashing into a tree. Man Mid-engined cars are tough to drive.

Why are we suddenly assuming the guy was driving like an asshat? The article in the first posts states the reasons are unknown. With no electronic systems to save you, it's well documented these cars will bite if control is lost for whatever reason.

Edit: I'd also add, having seen pictures, that I'd still question the guy's taste in colour schemes and interior fittings long before I'd question his driving skills.

Still though, repairing Atkinson's F1 at 910,000 pounds? And that isn't one of those special editions either. I bet this guy's F1 will cost at least $1.1 million to repair, that is if McLaren decides to let the insurance total it.

Rowan's car was in much worse shape, immediately thought to be lost when the rear was uncovered.

This car isn't a special edition, either; there are none beyond the 4 original models. It's just a personal paint scheme in addition to several MSO options added to chassis #072, options any owner could add. McLaren has no problem rebuilding cars for new owners to fit their needs, hence why it's easy for many involved in accidents to be repaired. The damage to this car isn't as severe as the pictures look, so if the tub hasn't suffered anything, it's expected to run under $1 million to be repaired. (Rowan's came out to around $1.5 million)

How do you damage a car like that?
Drive like a clotpole on an Italian country road, go to fast around a bend and fly off.

It went down an embankment. The road WAS slippery from a previous rain. Throw in a car that has zero driving aids and 600+Hp.

Keep talking out of your ass or start searching Google for the owners thread from someone who was there.

Damage to the car is extensive, but is not quite as severe as the pictures imply - conditions were slippery so speed was not that great, just an unfortunate incident and probably the most significant of outcomes possible under the circumstances.

Classic thread of some people assuming every super car crash is from an asshat with more money than talent & couldn't possibly be an actual accident .

Why would they total it? These cars are worth at least $5 million. Some have sold for double that.
