Quick assessment coming up...

I am really surprised the Houston Astros are doing so well so far. We are currently 12-7 on the 2015 season after having won 9-5 last night at San Diego. We are also currently leading the AL West over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (9-10), Seattle (8-11), Oakland (8-12), and Texas (7-12). It is a strong start and everything you can hope for with your favorite team. However, my only question is how long can we sustain this surprising start? Is this possibly the Coming of Age for the Astros? Can we possibly make the playoffs again for the first time since the 2005 World Series run? Only four words define the Astros' season so far: "so far, so good." I couldn't be any more proud to be an Astros fan right about now. I just hope we can keep this up for as long as possible.

If you'd like to assess your own team(s) right now, you can do so. Otherwise, enjoy some baseball today/tonight.

Current Events related: Due to the Baltimore Riots, for the first time in Baseball's 177 year history, a baseball game will be played without fans in the stands. The Baltimore-White Sox game that was slated to be played tonight has been postponed to 2:05 pm EDT tomorrow and will be closed to the public.

In addition, this weekend's series against Tampa Bay, that would be played at Camden Yards, will move to Tampa Bay.

So in theory 4 straight games where the attendance will be zero :dopey:.

I forgot to add that the remaining two games against the Sox that was postponed Sunday and Monday will be played in a doubleheader on May 28th. In case if there is anyone in the Baltimore area, the games will be good on a single ticket.

I am trying to stay away from all the Baltimore madness because it is such a depressing story. It is just as depressing as the Nepal earthquake deal. It is crazy just what the Baltimore rioting has come down to- a game played elsewhere, closed to the public. Wow...

Nope. I'm safe and sound here in my home state of Texas.

My Internet was down last night, and my Astros played another late game. After a 9-3 victory at the Padres on Monday, we won 14-3 Tuesday night. Another Astros win.

As for Wednesday's games, hope you all enjoy some baseball on this final "Hump Day" of April 2015.

It was 7-2 in San Diego as the Houston Astros won again. So they've now won six straight games and swept two successive teams on the road. These are not typos, and these are not dreams- the Astros are WINNING for a change. Damned refreshing if you ask me. Dallas Keuchel was the winning HOU pitcher while Andrew Cashner took the loss for SD.

Up next... a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners at Minute Maid Park starting tomorrow night.

Congratulations to all other winners from Wednesday, including Baltimore's 8-2 win over the Chicago White Sox in that surreal setting in Baltimore.

[EXTRA NOTES] The Houston Astros at this point are 10-2 on the road- their best in franchise history early in a season. Winning eight of nine games is the best they've gone on a nine-game road trip in Astros' history. These two news bits were things I picked up searching on Twitter. I'm just proud we're doing so well to start the season.

Miguel Cabrera had 2 home runs today and James McCann had an inside-the-park home run in today's battle of the bats that was the Tigers-Twins game today. The final Score was 10-7 in favor of Detroit. Miguel's first homer went into the second deck, and the second homer was at least a 400' blast.

Nice to see the Astros come into form again. They were the punching bags of the NL Central their last few years there. As predicted, it took a couple of seasons, but they are on their way back up.

THIS JUST IN...

According to reports, Cincinnati's Homer Bailey will undergo Tommy John surgery. This surely will hurt the Reds' pitching rotation.

Other than this, enjoy the weekend series, everyone. Good luck to all of your teams.

It was already a thinned out rotation to begin with (still better than the bullpen though). We're not going anywhere this season anyway. Better to have the surgery now and come back earlier next season. I just wish we hadn't put down so much money on Homer to keep him around. I have no idea if Cueto will still be here next year. We can't afford much between Votto, Phillips, and Bailey's contracts. Unless some of the young arms perform better than expected in the near future, I fear we may be down and out for a couple years.

Friday night baseball here in H-Town between the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros. This one ended 4-3 in favor of the Houston Astros. Fields was the winning HOU pitcher. Elias was the losing SEA pitcher. Seattle and Houston will continue their four-game swing Saturday night. Eight straight for the 'Stros. No "LASTros" funk for Houston this season. We're doing much better right now (at least for now) than in past seasons.

Congratulations to all other winners from Friday, including both of New York's Major League Baseball teams.

Why did the MLB bother with replays, these guys spend 5 minutes watching them and still get it wrong.

I know my hometown of Houston is nicknamed America's Space City, but at least tonight, the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners turned Minute Maid Park into a launch pad tonight- a total of 9 home runs by these two teams tonight! There were four for Seattle and five for Houston. Winning this duel was the Houston Astros by a score of 11-4. This is the first time the Astros won nine straight games since September 2006. Houston's winning pitcher was Collin McHugh, and losing for Seattle was Taijuan Walker.

Congratulations to all other winners from Saturday.

Ten. Straight. Wins. We pulled another sweep and have now won double-digit games. A game that was a 6-1 lead for the Astros for most of the game ends up being a 7-6 victory for the Astros. Pat Neshek was the winner along with a Save from Luke Gregerson. For Seattle, Carson Smith was the loser.

Up next for the Houston Astros, we're hosting the Texas Rangers for a three-game set starting tomorrow night. After that, (I'm assuming) a four-game set at Patrick's Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim next weekend.

Congratulations to all other winners up to and beyond the time of this post, including Detroit hanging on in Kansas City.

The Tigers beat the Royals 6-4. The Twins just put a 13-3 smack down on the White Sox.

With a new month, how about we take a look at how the season is going so far. Try to find your team in this look at all the teams:

--- AMERICAN LEAGUE ---
AL EAST: New York Yankees (16-9), BAL (12-11), TB (13-12), BOS (12-13), TOR (12-14)
AL CENTRAL: Detroit (17-9), KC (16-9), MIN (13-12), CLE (9-15), CHW (8-14)
AL WEST: Houston (18-7), LAA (11-14), OAK (11-15), SEA (10-15), TEX (8-16)

--- NATIONAL LEAGUE ---

NL CENTRAL: St. Louis (18-6), CHC (13-10), PIT and CIN (12-13 each), MIL (7-18)
NL WEST: Los Angeles Dodgers (16-8), SD (14-12), SF (12-13), COL (11-13), ARI (10-14)

--- OTHER OBSERVATIONS ---
WIN PERCENTAGES...
...BEST: St. Louis (.750)
...WORST: Milwaukee (.280)

RECORDS...
...BEST HOME: Los Angeles Dodgers (13-2)
...BEST AWAY: Houston (10-2)
...WORST HOME: Milwaukee (3-10)
...WORST AWAY: Chicago White Sox (2-11)

STREAKS:
...LONGEST WINNING: Houston (10 straight wins)
...LONGEST LOSING: Chicago White Sox and Colorado (5 straight losses each)

CURRENT TEN GAME STRETCH:
...BEST: Houston (10-0)
...WORST: Texas (2-8)

So that is your look at how everyone is doing so far this season. Does anything surprise you so far about these standings and these observations? By the way, let me share one little stat I read earlier today on my Astros before I close this post. The 2015 Houston Astros have 18 wins right now through about 27 games. Last year, it took them 50 games to hit 18 wins. So these boys have shown massive improvement.

With the upcoming series, good luck to all of your teams.

It's over... both the game and our winning streak. Texas beat Houston 2-1. Ten wins and no more. I was pleased with the winning streak, but winning baseball on a consistent basis is more important to me. So it was Kela who won for Texas along with a Save from N. Feliz. Houston's losing pitcher was Chad Qualls.

Congratulations to all who didn't fail tonight.

New York Mets scored a run.... actually 3 of them.

New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 to move to 17-10 on the year. Bartolo Colon moves to 5-1 on the year with the win and Jeurys Familia picked up his MLB leading 11th save.

Some fun facts about tonight's win:

It's been six years since the Baltimore Orioles last beat the Mets (2009).
Bartolo Colon is good vs. the O's. He has pitched for SEVEN different teams and defeated the Orioles with all of them, an MLB record.

Meanwhile here in Houston...

Texas knocked my Astros out of orbit with a 7-1 whacking. So we've gone from 10 straight wins to back-to-back losses. We were down 7-1 even at about the Bottom of the 4th. Texas may sweep us depending on what happens on Wednesday. Seems like the Astros are cooling off after going on this hot streak. So we seem like we're coming back down to earth after going on this streak.

Oh, well... congratulations to Tuesday's other winners.

Today is José Altuve's silver (25th) birthday. So what birthday present did the Texas Rangers give José and his Astros? An ass-whooping worse than last night's ass-whooping. Texas swept us 11-3 tonight. Quite a birthday present. Up next... four games at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Late games! So we go from 10 straight wins to 3 straight losses. That's baseball.

Congratulations to Wednesday's other winners.

Mets sweep the Orioles, 5-1 as Jacob deGrom picks up his 3rd win of the year, Dilson Herrera hits a 2 run HR to break it open. Mets are now 18-10 on the year.

I made a mistake saying it's been 9 years since the Mets last lost to the Orioles. They lost to them in 2009 so it's been 6 years. They do however lead the all-time series 21-9.

Time to celebrate... if you're the Astros. We won 3-2 at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. I somehow picked up this report snooping around my Facebook news feed. All I know is that we gave up a solo jack by Matt Trout early in the game. The Astros managed to get the "W" as the game went along. Win No. 19 for the Houston Astros on the season. Behind this HOU victory was a win for Pat Neshek and a Save from Luke Gregerson. Huston Street picked up the loss for LAA.

Elsewhere... like the man or not, accept the circumstances or not, congratulations to Alex Rodriguez for passing Willie Mays for 4th all-time in Home Runs. 661 for A-Rod.

Congratulations to all other winners from Thursday.

The Tigers just beat the KC Royals with a 6-5 walkoff victory. Ian Kinsler had a bunt single that lead to a throwing error by Royals Pitcher Yohan Pino. That error lead to the winning run being scored.

It was 2-0 in Anaheim as the Angels took down my Astros. This four-game series is now 1-1. The usually very good Jared Weaver was 0-4 heading into this game. Tonight, he picked up the win for LAA to go to 1-4. Roberto Hernandez was HOU's losing pitcher. He's 1-3.

(Tree'd...)

Congratulations to everybody who won on Friday.

We lifted three homers in Anaheim to win 6-5 at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim yesterday. Dallas Keuchel (or "Kid Keuchy" according to his Twitter handle) was the winning pitcher for HOU, and Chad Qualls got himself a Save. The loser for LAA was Shoemaker. This four game set concludes later today.

Congratulations to all other winners from Saturday, including the O's taking down the Yanks in the Bronx. ESPN's Sunday Night broadcast will feature AnthonyD1993's Detroit Tigers hosting the Kansas City Royals. This should be a treat for you AL Central fans and you fans of Midwestern baseball.
