SUggestion for GT2.1: but Aspec have a limit of the events...

The Machine Test events are a special case in the game code and so it's not possible to add more of them. All mods are also limited by the fact that there isn't space to add any more events to the game without deleting existing events.

This is probably impossible (and likely illegal), but could you move the game to a bigger disc? Or is the game just hard coded to its size?

Disc space is not an issue, RAM space however... Everything is hardcoded to use a specific amount of console RAM, and nothing more. That's where most all of the limits come from.

Yeah, when you have as little as the PS1 did, everything has to be carefully partitioned, so pretty much everything that's loaded in ram has a fixed maximum size, which we can't edit at all.

If a mod was designed specifically for emulators like Duckstation, PCSX-Redux, or Beetle PSX HW, would it be possible to create a plugin or patch that intercepts loading calls and allocates additional virtual memory?
I do understand this would break compatibility with the original PS1 hardware, but it could allow us to bypass the console's RAM limitations and take advantage of the extra resources available on PC...

Yes, assuming the emulators support emulating non-standard PS1 hardware (as allowing the use of extra memory is not accurate emulation). However, with the huge amount of code that would have to be reverse-engineered and carefully patched, it's not a giant step away from doing a full decompilation of the game and porting it to other platforms natively. Either way it would be years of effort for a dedicated and skilled team, and I know I personally don't have the skill set for that. It's definitely not worth it for a few new races, in my opinion.

GT2.1 isn't dead, progress is just slow lol
For now, here's a snippet of some of the edited one-make races and the opponents you can expect to be facing.
Some (most) of the cars showed are WIP and are subject to changes, eventually hah
809 Opponent entries have been created so far, out of a maximum total of about 1330. Lots to go, loads of placeholder have been placed where i expect them to be.

U R Awesome

Hello everybody! It's been a while. I have been looking forward to a lot of stuff being made for the Gran Turismo games.

Though for some I unfortunately feel like they may be on a long hiatus, such as the used car dealership mod for GT6, which I really wanted to play with, since imo overall GT6 feels very complete with It's car and track selection, RUFs working as a stand-in for Porsche much better than painting "ELAN" on the side of an NA Miata in GT7, or maybe using the new Honda NSX to pretend it's a new Esprit, based on that prototype. And I do have a PS3, GT5 and 6, a G27, and even thought of putting an ssd there too to get something similar to those fast loading times we have on PC. But it's nice to see interest in GT2 seems to be still going.

I'm really looking forward to GT2 Beige Edition, and also to see what is left for GT2+.. as for 2.1, is progress still being made? Is it currently paused to focus on Beige Edition? Maybe with some more learning and research of GT2 modding going on while making it too?

One thought I had just now is.. is there a limit to how many colors for cars you can have in total in the game? Is it a set limit by car but where you could give all cars that amount?

While looking at your screenshots again, I saw the classic Shelby GT350 and thought, we could add color options for it without the stripes, since I don't recall it having that option. I remember reading that the colors are set by some sort of palette of the colors in the car's texture, right? Could be neat to do something with that too. Colors are something I've been wanting to mess with to dip my toes in GT2 modding. Maybe it's something I could try out a little in my spare time, and it could be used by you guys if I got some nice results.

Yes, there's a set limit for colors given to a car in GT2. Each car can have no more than 16 colors to my recollection, you could ideally mod the game to give each car that color if you wanted to.

Funny that you say that...

I also have done gold striped variations as a reference to the GT350H.

Go ahead and give it a try, it could be fun for you. Though to note, this thread isn't for general modding discussions.

This thread would be better for you if you want to talk about modding.

Exactly yeah, i'm happy to give input and help, but i'm not working on Beige personally. 2.1 progress has been extremely slow lately, but i don't plan on letting it die.

Pretty much everything has a limit due to memory and database limitations.

I have a dream that GT 2.1 will be born, and that the Submaniac cars will live in unity, with all the colors because that's how it should be, remembering that the best games are made slowly, just like SilkSong.

Hah thanks for the praise, i hope whenever it's ready enough for me to release an initial version, people will like it. Once i have the core things completed, i want to release an initial version, with updates bringing reworked car models and the like, things that shouldn't break saves, if I can plan that out well enough.

@submaniac93 I saw you'll put the Opala, and as the creator of the body, would ask you, kindly, if you can, credit me as "Dark Magician".
btw, if you want, you can use the dekotora77's rFactor sounds for Bravo Modding Team's Ford GT LMGTE, since they sound quite similar.
and my sound suggestion for racing exhaust
