What do you propose they do? There is no way Fox is going to move around new episodes of House and Alcatraz and moving it to another channel isn't going to do much either. Not to mention I'm guesing there are local ordinances preventing them from doing night races on week nights hence why the Duels are during the day.

NASCAR does not have free reighn, they have to work with the cards they are dealt.

Not just that, the current time there at Daytona is almost 18:00 and it is still very wet. Drying up the track might take another 1 or possibly the longest being 2 hours. By then, the race will start really late possibly at 20:00 and might lasted until very late night which is not ideal for the drivers and as mentioned, TV Coverage.

Frustration is frustration, but sometimes logic thinking must come.

You're not making things any better? You should be lucky it's postponed to tomorrow instead of cancelling the whole Daytona 500 altogether!

They are with spray, the drivers wouldn't see each other, not cool when racing in a pack.

No existing wet tyre could be used on a oval because of how soft the compound would need to be and how the tread block would overheat because of the load at high speeds on banked corners.

With the cars as lose as they are, the clean, slick (no rubber), track will make for a crazy race.
 
If there are some of you that rely on a live stream to watch all the NASCAR races, you really should look into HDrules.net. Yes, you have to pay for it, but it saves you a lot of hassle trying to find a reliable stream on race day. It's $2 USD a day, or you can pay for a full year. (around $60?)

Yes, it would've been too late. If it's a carry-over from the daylight, I think it would be fine as the race finish will still be on time. The big problem for today is as I mentioned in my previous post, the race might start at 20:00 local time due to drying up the track etc. Be it at night, it won't help any in the drying process and might take from 1 to 2 hours. Not to mention, the race might last wherever from 2 to possibly 3 hours and might end somewhere in the middle of the night.

It's just not ideal at all for the drivers and TV coverage.

About the lighting during the rain, yes it actually is an issue. The rain will refract the light to various direction and resulting in lesser light that will actually reach the track. With cars going at more than 200kmh at the back straight, it won't help much at all...

Because both House and Alcatraz have new episodes, don't think Fox would be willing to move those around. Although those don't start until 8PM ET so they do have a rather large window.

Compared to the morning where they have some talk shows and a judge show or two.
 
If they aren't willing to move shows on FOX, the race airs on SPEED. FOX would be dumb to move a major live sporting event off of network TV to cable TV. That would mean less ratings, if anyone actually cares about such things.

Episodic TV shows can be moved with no problem.

The Daytona 500 has been the opening race for the NASCAR season since 1982. What race was the season opener prior to that from 1970 to 1981?
 
70% chance for showers tomorrow as well. Even the storm chaser guy I have on my facebook says it doesn't look good either.

Pretty sure we're racing on Tuesday.

Actually, once again it's harder than some tend to think. For one people are used to seeing the show's on Monday's, changing that likely wouldn't result in any good PR and would lead to low ratings. There are also sponsors that are paying for the show to air in the Monday primetime spot, it's not like live TV where there is a risk the event may be moved, they expect their commercialls to air Monday during prime time.

I still doubt the race will take place at night due to noise ordinances.

Nor was I. The track closed the year I was born but I have raced there in simulation games. Its layout reminds me of Infineon (which is probably not surprising since Infineon is based off of it).
 
I guess whilst we're on the subject, what is the ideal time window for a event like this on the weekend and how does the promoter and sponsors and network work this all out? Since I've been hearing about FIA and its troubles finding broadcasting deals for WRC, I figure I'd ask.

1 PM Eastern is the most ideal time surprisingly. They can catch the European crowd at dinner.

Worst case scenario it's going to Tuesday, I think, because that's what R16 is saying.
