Is it just me, or are Los Santos and San Fierro around the same size as Liberty City?
In terms of land mass, no. In terms of actual driving time between the 2 islands, yes. That is if you're talking about Los Santos and San Fierro individually.

I still think it is abit small j/k.
If you think that's too small to start, read this quote from TurboLevin2NV:
TurboLevin2NV
15 minutes between cities.....that might be just like True Crime. I recently rented that game again to perform an expirment. I did a highway run, spanning from top left to top right corner. I used the fastest car I could find, going full throttle non-stop. It took me 19 minutes and 43 seconds. Tedious, very tedious. Although GTA SA will be different I can garuntee.
I have this game, too. I thought the city was too big for starter, but I think that was the case because of the gameplay. If the gameplay was similar to Vice City, then it would be good. If San Andreas is this size, I will like it. Another reason it wouldn't be bad in San Andreas is the fact that the surrounding environment is more interactive. There is ALOT more stuff to do, and this size would be just right for San Andreas.
ExigeExcel
That looks about right. You think the Las venturas bit will just square off that top right part of the map? Or do you think it will stick out abit?
I think that it will stick out a little bit. My guess all along has been that Las Venturas will be a little smaller than the other cities, and that the Desert will be smaller than the Countries.
ExigeExcel
Perhaps the 15 minutes includes refueling time ?
I doubt it includes Refuelling time. But I actually can't wait for that feature. I'm obsessed with realism, as is Blake. So that sort of stuff just makes us itch for this game hard.

If that fifteen minutes between cities is true....looks like those planes will be used a helluva lot more than I initially thought.
I don't think it would be all bad. I think the travel between each city was timed with a nice gentee cruise. If you really need to get somewhere, then a fast car and a hell of a drive will get you there much quicker I suspect. But I like having to travel a fair distance to get somewhere else. On True Crime it was crap, because all of the city looked the same. Yet, San Andreas will be very interactive. Plus I still think there will be Passenger flights at each airport. It's just a guess, but why wouldn't they. It would be just the same as the trains in GTA 3: Get on the plane and then you go to a cutscene. I'll be fine with that.

I sure hope they add Las Venturas on their Official Site soon, because I want to do this update. Noone else better do it, or else!

I think that it will stick out a little bit.
I have thought about this abit, when you go to the flash version of the site and move the pointer over the area. Those triangle pieces move and the map is revealed, so for every bit of the map there is a certain amount of pieces, San Fierro 3 Los Santos 2, i think??. But considering the supposed size of Las Venturas there are only 3 pieces and they appear to only make up about the same size as Los Santos. I hope they are just doing this to keep us in suspence about the actual size of the map and it will change when they unlock the rest of the map.

He He i think we'll leave it too you, it will be the final in the trilogy hah :)

I think the size of that piece is the size of Las Venturas. That's one of the reasons why I don't think it will be overly big. There's usually a 3 piece picture at the start. You can tell the size of each city by each piece, adding a little water around the sides of course.

I don't think it's as small as you guys say to be honest. You think it might look small, but I think it will be a nice size, and it will be different once you play the game. Imagine learning all the street names. That's one thing I'll do once I have a break from the missions.

I'm not convinced...

If you look at Los Santos's top right (NorthEastern) Corner there is a highway spur going north...

Now take a look at San Fierro's Top Left (NorthWestern) Corner. There is another highway spur (This one being the Gant Bridge) going north there...

This would make me think that the desert of LV stretches to above SF... and across to LV which will be above LS in the top right corner. (Note the train tracks too... that points to LV being top right)

Thus meaning that the desert will be quite large...

Of course this is all conjecture and we could all be wrong!!

C.

Well I don't know. Maybe the desert is just thin and goes around Las Venturas, but I couldn't see that the desert would be all that big, it would seem like a waste of space to me. The country on the other hand is filled with interactive details, and is not such a waste of space...Oh well, there's only one way to find out...stay tuned for my Las Venturas update!

You're gonna have to wait first...

I strongly suspect that the LV update on the official site won't be up until the end of October... probably once the game is released...

However I do suspect that we will get some info from magazines in the mean time...

C.

Well there has been screens and info on Las Venturas. I think we are due for some information on the Desert.

They said that Las Venturas will be up in the final weeks before the game is released.

Question: Does anyone have an emailing address for Rockstar. I think they only use a private one, and a NO REPLY address for fansites, which sucks, because I have a few questions.

Saw these details over at a GTA site. Not sure if they have been posted before.

Germany's PC Games magazine has some new information on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas:
It will be possible to open the roof of convertible cars and shoot from the inside.
Police will communicate through the radio and set up roadblocks. They will also discuss shortcuts to catch you.
The bulldozer can be operated using the right analog stick. You'll be able to destroy some landscape with it. (don't read too much into this)
Waves/sea will change with the weather and wind speeds.
There are more "alternative incomes," such as farming on a rapeseed field or being a truck driver.

Sorry if repost.

That sounds pretty Awesome...

But will they only have electric roofs or will you have to get out and faff about for 15 seconds whilst you take the roof down?!

Also don't the electric ones only work when you're stationary?!

C.

For some reason that information is a little suss, yet on another point I believe it entirely. :odd: What site is that from?

I saw it over at planetgta.com

Here's a Bit of Info:
--When in gang wars, you will be able to give the gang members that respect you tactical advice (like in a RTS game).
--Playing basketball will be a side-game such as ambulance missions or gambling in casinos.
--As in the previous GTAs, the standard police force (LSPD) will give up after 4 wanted stars, leaving you to defend yourself from tougher forces at 5 & 6 stars.
--Shop owners will draw weapons and defend themselves if they feel threatened.

Site seems credible.

Also, I just took a look at the San Andreas map, via mousing over the front-page pictures on the Official Site. It seems as if Las Venturas will be short North-South, but quite long East-West. My guess that the desert will stretch around the perimeter and be narrow is quite possible.

My best guess right now: The Desert will surround the City, which I say will be somewhere in the centre of the island. It will be probably the only proper City/Town, the rest will be Desert.

Lets see if that's close. ;)

Something Interesting:
The Official San Andreas German Website contained a strange "placeholder" after it was updated this morning. If you got the background with Cesar (refresh to change characters), Las Venturas map would be slightly visible. The section itself was not open, but many fans spent hours trying to see if any other screenshots or movies had been accidentally uploaded too. Here is the official response from Rockstar:
Rockstar
Yeah, as you can probably figure out from looking at it - that wasn't a real Las Venturas map. Just a placeholder workfile block that got thrown up there and somehow made it on the German site.

Interesting...very interesting indeed, las ventura looks like the size of vice city, probably a bit smaller but close...

Well Rockstar are trying to make us believe that it's just a fill-in, not the real map. But even they know they won't be able to make us believe that, it's just a cover-up. It also looks like (whoever said it before) was right. The map is taller than they make out. Some trickery in there. It looks interesting. Desert is fairly big, too. Looks like I got this one completely wrong. Lol.

We still haven;t had any screenshots of the Desert. Not happy Rockstar.

thats awesome looks like when they finally release the map the pieces of the map will move and get bigger cause whats in those 3 triangles looks like only 2 thirds of las venturas.
And yeah im betting that is the actual map, R* must be kickin themselves!

That could have been a sneaky little ploy to get us interested.......well it worked. I cant wait.

AU release date!

Earlier I speculated how unlikely it would be that GTA: San Andreas would arrive in Australia on the proposed date of 29th October, based on what happened in previous years. In various places the dates 11th and 12th of November are popping up and today xeroer contacted Take Two - getting a confirmation that the release date is the 12th of November. Hopefully this will be a solid date without a repeat of Vice City's continually pushed back release.
Source: xeroer

Anyone not from Australia must be tired of AU news :)

Also some new info from edge forums

The November issue of Official Playstation 2 Australia is now on sale.

The magazine contains a five page wrap on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and promises a review of the game in the next issue after they test run it.

There are several high quality, fully rendered screens, most have been seen, I think one or two may be new.

New Confirmations:

- Aussie date confirmed, 12th November.
- New weapons confirmed; katana swords, golf clubs, and "the like"
- Ability to block, depending on the weapon CJ is holding at the time
- Able to fire at enemies whilst moving backwards
- Depending on the weapon, CJ's stance will change, and will vary in his experience to increase preformance
- Headshots are automatically targeted when close enough, if too close, CJ will resort to hand attacks.
- AI will respond to gun noises appropiately.
- CJ will be more controllable as a traditional third-person shooter, with improved targetting over Vice City.
- Attempting to GTA tradition, Rockstar aim to give the player most options possible. This also goes for the weapon mechanics, you still use R2 and L2 to rapidly scroll through enemies, for best originality.
- The dual-weapon option has been worked on quite a bit.
- Confirmation of Desert Eagle and Shovel, both found in the country side. CJ will struggle with the Desert Eagle at first.
- San Andreas will feature "interactive" fires, what the magazine claims to be "serious fires, Californian summer-type fires". Such fires may be started accidently through moltov cocktails or car explosions. CJ will also be able to use these to his advantage and start fires intentionally. CJ will also be able to extinguish fires aswell.
- The above fire talk was actually refering to buildings. The same applies for the countryside, of course.
- "...and when the San Andreas Fire Department doesn't show up, CJ will be called into action. CJ will have to do this for a good deed (saving people) and his own safety."
- Regular fires in fast food outlets like the Cluckin' Bell. After picking up an extinguisher, CJ will have to aim to the bottom of the flame before pulling the trigger to put it out.
- The dialogue system is used to talk to some residents, shop owners, etc. Use the D-Pad to choose a statement.
- Combat; Square blocks, Circle and Triangle are different attacks. CJ can lock onto anyone in the game, even when not holding a weapon.
- Aircraft in San Andreas move faster and are more nimble. The crop duster can preform manoeuvres, including hammerheads, barrel rolls and loops.
- There is a bike-racing game on Mt Chilliad, starting from the top.. CJ also has a skill for such bike-driving. Considered a massive challange with extreme speeds, bumps and turns and ruthless opponent tatics.
- The mountain bike differs from the BMX, it also has gears (choosen automatically) so you can reach high speeds.
- Bulldozer has been designed with plenty of power and "go forward" in mind. It will be the first rear-wheel steering vechile in the game.
- A plough is in the game and CJ can use it to smash through buildings, flip cars and cause chaos all over.
- Numerous environmental destuctable objects, e.g. milk crates, fences, plants and furniture to smash up.
- Ride on lawnmower may be the slowest vechile in the game, but may be used to molch up people.
- Police have many tricks up their sleeve.
- CJ befreinds the owner of RU Haul.
- Numerous fun activities with filling a tanker up with fuel..

Sorry some of this info is repeats, but some new.

Also i thought this real world pics and GTA pics comparison was cool, here's the link below.

First one was quite god, but teh second map is much better! :D
Wonder what that little island in the top left can be used for? military?

Also there looks like there is a ring-road/by-pass going around San Venturra. You think it will be busy? I hope there is gridlock on it.

Hell yeah... I'm looking forward to some hardcore gridlock racing... Blasting in between all the cars at full speed... That would be awesome!!

C.

PS I think LV Airport is underneath the word LAS... The big + of Big roads?!
What do you reckon?

I was thinking more of,
'this is taking to long, oh wait, I'm in a monster truck!!! *floors it and drives over cars* Waahooooooo' :D

The French magazine Jeux Video has released some new info in a new article.

-There are 10 different types of planes to fly
-There are 15 gangs in the game
-Kenji and Asuka will co-own a casino
-Donald Love and Avery Carrington will also co-own a casino
-There will be 30 weapons including axes, shovels, pepper spray, tasers, blow torch, nailgun, metal poles, and tear gas
-Las Venturas will be roughly the size of Vice City
-The bulldozer is operated with the right analog stick
-There will be a hotel called 'Liberty City, Liberty City'
-Falling from high places will produce messy deaths

I found this over at GTAForums.com, and scans will be posted there shortly.
