Hey, just recently found this website after re-discovering gt4, I thought i'd give this a go as this teaches a lot of real world technique (I myself own a 190 rwkw R32 gts-t). Many thanks to all who have written guides on set ups as i am actually astounded by how much i have improved in such a small amount of time, and im actually surprised how satisfying gt4 is compared to the real thing..

Hello all,
I found the site a few weeks back - searching for what AI cars appear in what races as I was growing sick of ending up in either 1 point or 250 point races.

Then I saw these drifting pages... I used to drift GT3 with the pad but when I got GT4 and the Driving Force Pro I gave it a quick go and it was REALLY hard, so I hadn't really bothered until I saw this forum, the guides, the setups and the discussions. The GT3 v GT4 drifting was of particular interest.

I've tried a few cars so far and have been getting progressively better - but last night in an M3 CSL it all clicked. Compared to the D1GP RX7 it was certainly more progressive and friendly to get to grips (pun not intended) with. And going back into the D1 car afterwards I was much better.

I just wish I had the technology to upload some replays of that M3 CSL, I was so pleased with myself.
Another layer of Gran Turismo is peeled off and revealed to be great. Genius game.

hey lads, and ladies.
my names dean and i am a crap drifter on gt4 :P
havn't played the game in about 6 months, thought i would give it a go and ended up here on a friday night

I was a crap drifter this time last week too - just keep at it and eventually you'll hit one and it'll all make sense. Then you just have to remember how you did it and repeat... :)

I spend all day at work wanting to me sitting in front of the PS2 refining the technique...

yeah persistance pays off
was hella good on gt3, but find because the game dynamics are a bit more complex than gt3 it's a bit harder, i been using the fpv f6 mainly

Indeed - going back to GT3 after trying the drift in 4 shows you how easy it was... It's the weight transfer that does it. The feel you get through the DFR steering wheel is awesome - so realistic it's amazing.

To all the new members. WELCOME!!! We are very glad that you're here. We're going to have a lot of things started in the next week or so, so keep checking back to see what you can get involved in! :)

Thanks Swift - I read yours and Boundry Layer's FR Drifting Guide. It certainly helped a lot... Still not too confident on making any modifications - I'm just trying to get my drifting consistent before making too many changes otherwise I can never be sure if it's me or the changes making the difference.

ALL NEW MEMBERS!!

Read the above quote. He just described the BEST way to start drifting. NOt to go all crazy with the modifications, but to understand the principles of drifting and move on from there.

That was very well said...I think I'm going to put it in the first post.👍

Should I even bother announcing myself?

I guess it wouldn't hurt.

David Adams, A.K.A Shadow Drifter, some hate me others tolerate me. I drift cars for fun and teach others how to do so as effectively and efficiently as possible.

For those who haven't heard from me in a while, I just got out of the military (United States Marine Corps) in March of this year (06). I am now a network technician and consultant for CableVision in New York and I also am a licensed and certified volunteer SCCA Driving Instructor. I take pride in what I do both with cars and computers, but I really want to retire from what I do with cars.

I'm not so much interested in GT4, I play it from time to time, but between my job and my passion, I don't have time for games. I figured that I'll put myself here because it seems that a touch of realism wouldn't hurt.

Also, I told myself that if I read more than 15 (NEW) threads from first page to last page then I'll go ahead and see what it's like to sign back up.

Just so that we have the clarification, I'm not drifting in GT4 nor will I offer much "helpful" assistance in the realm of GT4 physics, dynamics or control and setup when drifting. What I will TRY to offer is insightful and, hopefully, fulfilling suggestions and comments from an "outsiders" point of view.

The only reason why I say the word "try" is because I don't know how much help an SCCA instructor will be with a video game when we have such experienced racers here such as SWIFT, SLOTH and Delphic Reason (to name a few) here already. I just hope that what my point of view has to offer is a little bit of an angle change (no pun intended) from what people are used to hearing. Basically, instead of hearing the basic, "Tap the throttle and modulate steering." I hope to be able to say something like "Well, on the track, you would want to bias the grip on the wheel for a left hand turn as opposed to driving straight."

Oh well, we'll see how this "trial run" goes.

P.S. Besides, I miss all my buddies here on the threads.

Ive been playing Gt4 ever sence it came out, yet i havent masterd the whole drift thing. i do have some questions tho, Whats better for drifting? a Wheel? or no wheel? what car should be used? and what track? i have all the top cars and i have over 10mil so i have no worries about beating the game at 100% but i want to learn how to drift, someone want to help me out? im 17 and love this game! someone help me out!

Good to have you here.

Just watch that drifting IRL. It tends to bend chassis and wother things. :dopey:

Hello,I'm a gt4 drifter too.
My favorite drift cars are Nissan Skylines and American muscle cars like the Dodge Charger.

I tend to avoid the typical drift cars lke the Trueno/RX-7/Silvia as much as possible.

Currently I'm practising for my first drift videos, one of which will feature an Nissan Skyline GTR R32 and R34,and the other will feature a Dodge Charger and Dodge Viper.

Best Regards and stay sideways,

Midnight Runner.
