Typical of the internet rocket scientists, go in to hiding when things go awkard for them.

I wouldnt say awkward he did put across his point well I enjoyed the discussion

He all but said PD should work with out pay and make tracks with no background so we can get free DLC.

Not the content of his point the fact he felt right about a topic that he pushed to get his point across while giving some good points

Does the test track provide any additional data? I suppose nobody really knows.

I don't really play but I hang on to the title in the hope of some amazing update.

There is a track with a huge straight on it. Can't remember the name sorry. That would be good enough to check top end speed.

Not too sure what this test track could add to the mix. There's enough tracks available for testing.

If You check in my signature you can understand the reason because we need a properly area to test OUR cars in speed (and power) (as in every previous Gran Turismo)..
It's true that there is a looong track (SSR7-WANGAN inspired) but its not regular and suitable (inside the tunnel the car moves on the left and we lose speed to mantain the right direction) ..
And the data analyzer Function DOesN'T SHOW the speed WITH DECIMALS. FOR the GT PLAYERS who compete for the FASTEST one ..is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to have the value of the top speed with a precision by 0.xxx (mph or km/h) ..

ACTUALLY for us to test a speed in the tunnel is as to make a time trial with the chrono limitated to seconds ONLY ( no decimals ) ..

See yaa

Thats a good point having the decimals makes for a more accurate speed

So then why include it at all? get rid of everything surrounding the track, from now on they'll just be grey strips surrounded by green and yellow, since we're not meant to look at it.

The thing is that what looks low res when you look at it stationary looks a lot more real in 200 km/h. One could argue that making background objects high res just so they will look better when you're stationary, is more work than what the pay off would be. It's better to focus on the things that actually matters when racing, and then if they have more time they can come back and improve other things as well. I also suspect that there isn't much more processing power to use for making everything in the game high res. If you look at Nürburgring 24h with day/night transition and weather effects, the PS3 is already struggling to keep up with that. I don't think most people are prepared to take higher resolution background objects to the cost of more glitches and hardware related errors.

Edited because i got told off by one of the gods

gt is a great game only to be released due to timing issues.. and they have shown better .. no , the best support to a game i have ever seen after a year old game. some of this community really bugs me.. am i the only one?

Fully agree with you. PD are doing a fantastic job.
Ok so it wasnt perfect at launch but they are reading what the customers want and correcting as time goes by.

i don't believe in the DLC sales model.
make a game, create more content (or in some cases hold off on releasing content) then sell it for extra. sounds like buying a steak dinner then being charged extra for the sides.

gt 1-4 had the test course. it's a no brainer to include it. instead, for gt5 they held off, and are now selling it to you.

Pd did not hold off this content, it dident exist a year ago! It's devs like codemasters that do those dirty tricks. Dirt 2 was a great game but had lots of online flaws, codies never botherd to address any of its problems, with dirt 3 they release a game with half the cars missing then try selling you them a few days after launch! Pd actually make new content not hold it back, yes the game wasent finished but I think Sony forced there hand into a release with Xmas coming up (a good console seller). Pd support this game like no other I have ever seen, they are a business and have to make money, I think they have struck the perfect balance of free content and paid dlc.

@mrkevans

Do you have any sources for your assumption that PD didn't hold off this kind of content?

Maybe Sony had a few words with PD in regards of milking its enormous milk cow GT5?

But we don't know that. Please don't assume stuff and sell it as truth.

Well, we have ways for the developer to continue to update their game after its been released. I really don't think there is anything wrong with expanding a game that you enjoy playing, and if you don't like it you don't need to pay for it.

However, I do not like it when publishers really do go out cash grabbing -
Saints Row 3 - cheats pack .. Its only £1 but still, they are on the disk!
DiRT 3 - was a DLC package that came out days after the game launched for £7 (After spending £40 on the game, i was a bit annoyed)

So yeah, DLC is great when its used to make a good game better in some way, AND its optional! :D

The publisher. In GT5s case its 'Sony Computer Entertainment'

About DiRT3,I was very annoyed but in gran turismo it was good to me because the 1st dlc was released after months the game being released in november 2010.

In DiRT3, it looked like codemasters was hungry for money.

I don't but the game was so incomplete at release I doubt very much this new content existed back then.

The practice of selling release day DLC that is obviously on disc (100kb download for the unlock key) is simply inexcusable. I remember when we used to buy the whole game at once, not 70% of the game and then pay the whole price of the game again (sometimes more) for the last 30%.

When dealing with developers like that, I just wait for the GotY or Ultimate version and get the whole game once it is actually finished for the price of a full game.

PD are not one of the bad ones. I have nothing but respect for them at this point. GT5 wasn't ready for launch and they have been working to put things right, also remember there was a freaking earthquake and the threat of nuclear meltdown along with a long PSN outage last year. PD even moved their office and servers.

I'll give PD every $ I can, so that GT6 will be so awesome as they can make it.

In that case they are pretty bad at business.

DLC its must be sell when the game is fresh in the shelfs and not one year later when the half of users, at least, has left the game for his annual ration of CoDs, Fifas, etc

I don't have a problem with any of the other DLC as it is all content that I was NOT expecting to find on my GT5 disc when I bought it. I didn't buy any of it but I don't mind that it is an option for people who want extra stuff.

However, I was most definitely expecting a Test Track of some description on the disc. Even a really boring, ported straight from GT4 version would have been fine.

I am hoping that we can all use it for offline testing, but only buyers can use it online, like Spa. But I'm not holding my breath.

No company has ever got any of my money for DLC and that looks likely to continue to be the case.

I don't but the game was so incomplete at release I doubt very much doubt this new content existed back then.

In a completed form you are probably right, however I believe that the models for the Jag (next DLC) and Scirocco (last DLC) were at least partly completed when GT5 launched.

I can't find the link right now, but I believe that Kaz acknowledged as much in interviews.

I didn't have GT4 or any of the other GTs for that matter, but GT5 is awesome. I don't mind the tiny amount they ask for DLC. I got my game half price, even if I had paid full price I would still pay for DLC. There is no charge for PSN so they have to charge somewhere along the line. Nothing is free, the more advanced the game, the more the development cost, therefore the more they will charge.

The way I see it, it's a great standalone game - don't want the extras that's fine, don't get them. Visionaries will always see a grand plan and proclaim their project will have this and that, in reality it doesn't always work out - you still get a great product. Get over it.

The thing is I am a fan of the GT series, played them all. The 'extras' they're offering in this pack is something that was already in all of the previous GT game. Removing it from this game and then re-offering as an 'extra' a year down the line stinks to me.

@ SimonK: I see your point. Let's see what the new DLC offers - I'm guessing it will be worth the wait and the premium. Have any prices been released yet, the test track may be a free update?!?

To me, taking a step backwards and then charging money to have it back is extremely aggravating. I've made my rants before about how GT5 was a completely unfinished game especially after the amount of time in between GT4 and GT5. But my two cents on the matter is, new content I don't mind paying for. New cars or tracks that haven't been featured in a GT game before. But content that should have been included at launch (Route X) should be a free update.

BTW, GT5 is the only game in history that I know of that has had to update a game to introduce things from a previous version that should have been there from the start. Also, GT5 had the longest development cycle of any follow up game in history that I'm aware of (Duke Nukem doesn't count).

There really is no reason or excuse it's taken this long for the content to be included. And with that fact (yes fact) the issue in question should even be an issue.

It's not. Route X is $4 according to the news article on the front page about the DLC.

One web site is quoting around 5-6 Euros/4-5 Pounds each for the two packs: Car Pack and Speed Pack. So if you pay around £10 a month for DLC then it works out to be 30p a day. I lose more than that running for the bus.

Now there's an idea for the next DLC - let's get some bus racing going. I saw it on an episode of Top Gear, it looked so much fun - bendy buses breaking up and double deckers on their sides.

Just a question why are people saying that the test track should have been on the game originally? I think that just because it was in previous titles doesnt mean it should be in this one from launch.

It looks like Ed is gone now, but I'll add this before I leave.

Ed (and all the other complainers),

When you handed over your money, you bought a complete game since there was no promise to add to your purchase at a later date. Actually, IIRC, Kaz was against DLC and it was rumored the GT5 would not get any. In any case, if you expected more in the box or game then you should have done your research before you laid your money down. Also, if you are against the DLC model or don't think it's work the money, then don't buy it.
