God I hate the patriots - especially Tom Brady.

Announcer:
"Brady interception returned for a TD"
"Brady completes one over the middle. All of his throws are right on target"
"Brady misses his man high"

WTF. One good throw and the rest are somehow removed from memory.

The Pats should have lost last night. They got handed the game on a fluke play that should never have happened. But what do the sportswriters do? They heap praise on how wonderful the patriots are and how wonderful Tom Brady is. Wonderful at what? Getting really really really really lucky?

Last night reminded me of the Pats vs. Ravens game 2 seasons back. The Pats were trying to go undefeated and the Ravens had them on a platter only to pull an absurd choke job (all on their own) at the last second.

All I can say is thank goodness for Eli Manning, David Tyree, and Michael Strahan preventing us from having to listen to a 24/7 patriot/brady love fest on all sports channels forever.

The media generally cares only about Boston and Favre-related football issues. It's fricken' tiring to hear.

Also, I think the Chargers are extremely overrated.

Don't worry, nobody rants and raves about the 72 Dolphins anymore.

But, my uncle is a huge Giants fan. We were very happy that night.

At least Favre-related news is fun to watch (considering it usually consists these days of people yelling at each other). Brady news stopped being worthwhile when the Patriots stopped winning playoff games.

Fixed.

Mike Tomlin yesterday on Polamalu:
“It is very similar to the update I gave following the contest on Thursday night, Troy’s knee injury will not require surgery. It is really a week-to-week thing as we progress from here on out. He is definitely out for this week."

My Texans take a trip to Nashville to try to take down the former Houston Oilers- the Tennessee Titans. We've only beaten the Titans once when playing at the Titans. After last week's embarassing performance, we have a chance to redeem ourselves this coming Sunday. If it means anything, Houston teams have had a history of slow starts. That includes teams like the Houston Astros (their season is basically over) and even the Houston Rockets sometimes. Maybe... oh, by the way, the Texans started 0-4 last season even with Hurricane Ike. Maybe we turn things around. I hate how most people think the season is over after one game.

I hear the Monday Night game this coming weekend is Miami at Indianapolis. Sort of like an inter-division match involving two AFC teams. I'm somewhat impartial to Indianapolis because they play in the AFC South, like my Texans. But I think the Dolphins will have a very good season.

Man... the Texans won a physical and even emotional game at Tennessee earlier today. I want my Texans to play with that level of character all season long like they did against the Titans (only without getting into a fight, of course).

Congrats to the following teams that pulled off big wins today... Houston, Chicago, Baltimore,NY Jets, and of course Atlanta. It wasnt the prettiest win,but this is the kind of game they have let slip away for so many years. I still cant get a good read on how good our defense is,The offense is solid. Guess we will know about Atl defense after next weeks visit to Patriot land. Hopefully they can reproduce the pressure on Brady that the Jets did today.

Go JETS!!

Thank you guys so much for finishing up where Buffalo left off. New England is one moronic fumble away from starting 0-2 and having a 3-game Brady-at-QB-losing streak.

Why do I hate Brady so much? I don't know. I guess it's not really Brady as much as Bilichick. But I get so sick of hearing about how fantastic Brady is. He has developed into a decent QB, but he's not so amazing.

I guess more than anything Brady exemplifies almost everyone's tendency to force the quarterback to live or die with the play of the rest of the team. I have no idea why, but that position seems to be all about winning or losing. Every other position is looked at objectively. Did the Vikings win the superbowl last year? No. But that doesn't stop folks from anointing Adrian Peterson the Purple Jesus. Is Kerry Collins good? Hell no. But while the team is winning the Titans absolutely refuse to change their QB (maybe now that they're losing that will change).

Only for the quarterback is the entire football game reduced to the individual. People said last weekend that "Sanchez beat Brady". No he didn't. Sanchez didn't crater the team, but he didn't beat Brady. He and Brady were never even on the field at the same time. The Jets defense beat the patriots, and Leon Washington had some key moments on offense. Sanchez did the absolute minimum that you'd demand of an NFL QB in that game - though I have to admit I didn't think he'd be up to it so soon in his career.

Let's take a look at a college football situation for a moment. Oklahoma just lost their star, Heisman-trophy-winning quarterback. How long did it take for his backup to start killing opponents? A week? Think that has much to do with the quarterback?

Let's take another look at the big 12 while we're there. Texas Tech lost their star quarterback last year. It took the backup exactly one off-season to come in and begin putting up ridiculous passing numbers. How much does that have to do with the quarterback? Could it be the O-Line? 5-6 Quarterbacks in a row have put up 400 yard/game passing numbers for Tech. I have to think that has nothing to do with the individual quarterback (none of them are starters in the NFL).

But no, if the quarterback happens to be behind an awesome O-Line (Brady), or he happens to have receivers who can out jump everyone else to get what amounts to a glorified hail-Mary (Moss), or he happens to have a defense that can give him a bazillion possessions to keep trying to make something work (Sanchez), then he gets the credit.

I guess that's why I have such a problem with Brady and the Patriots. Because Brady gets the credit for other people's efforts.

Wow,well said. I agree with mostly all of it,however certain quarterbacks just have a little extra something. I agree a whole lot has to go right for a pass to be completed, but the skill NFL quarterbacks posess deserve some props. Its just like a racing team the driver gets ALL the credit, and rightly so BUT it takes a whole lot more than a good driver to win a race. Oh and I can not STAND Billacheck either, funny since cheat gate the pats havent been all that.

I noticed a couple of years ago that the Patriots tend to lose, badly, if the opposing team decides to just manhandle the Pats offense instead of throwing their hands up in the air and playing exactly like the Pats expect. It is pleasant to know that more than just Miami and the Giants are beginning to figure that out. And if as many teams have figured that out as it seems so far, I'd be surprised if Pats even got into the playoffs.

Dan, you might enjoy reading ESPN's Tueday Morning Quarterback column by Gregg Easterbrook. Well, at least one section that he likes to call the unnamed play of the week. Basically, he will take a play that the media has given all credit to the QB/WR combo or RBs for and then go through and list every block that allowed that to happen. Usually it ends with, "It's pretty fun to run all the way down the field when everyone in front of you has been knocked down." Similarly, he does not hold back on asking defenders that lightly tap a receiver that tripped on his own and start cheering, "Why are you cheering? You didn't do anything."

Mark Sanchez has looked pretty darn impressive though. And that's coming from a Dolphins fan. It looks like the AFC East is the best division in the league.

Going with the Fins to upset the Colts, think they will rebound from a week 1 dissapointment.

And if it's not this week, it'll be the next one like last year.

"Alright here we go!"

".... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Akin Ayodele and G. Wilson FAIL.

edit: Jake Long's feet are lookin' BOGUS. Our record-settingly expensive 1st-rounder has been on his ass almost every play. And the ones he hasn't been, he's been chop blocking. WTF.

Yeah this is great. I've never seen the stadium so fired up. We had a little rust starting up but now the Colts D is GASSED.

Pennington is a good, good quarterback. I don't get to see him play much but he's really impressed me tonight.
