Yeah I dont understand why people call the Z a muscle car?
The M3 has more power and the Z is meant to be quite a good handler. I have a review of the Z Tune S2 which I might post if you guys want it.

Nissan 350Z/450Z (Future Model 2009)
Nissan is so happy with the success of its reborn Z, a second-generation range is guaranteed: this is said to be even more performance-focused and to have a more powerful engine, enabling it to hold its own against the likes of the Porsche Cayman, revised Audi TT, new BMW Z4 and Volkswagen Rivo. 4.5 V8 version rumoured - 450Z - which could be badged as an Infiniti

Comeon wolfe you know me I get all my info from reputable sites that have some sort of publication.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. If this car ever does show up, I would bet on it being an Infiniti G45, not a 450Z. With the GT-R slotting in as the "Nissan" top dog, you wouldn't want to compete with that with a V8 Z. But, a V8 in the Infiniti G would be a perfect match.

Yeah but not everywhere has infiniti although it is planned to arrive in europe for 2007 and a 450z for 2009 so there is a possibility but I think there will be a 450z now.

According to Motor Trend's Dec issue, the GT-R is probably going to have a V-8 in it to "suit American Tastes" as they put it. As in, torque is important in these parts, and turbo lag just doesn't fly around here, especially for that kind of money. Now, they can turbo the V8, since it will have more juice down low before the turbo kicks in, but the torque numbers on the VQ before the boost kicks in would probably be WAY to low to stand.

So the real question here is are they going to have a turbo on th GT-R's V8? IF not, there's no way they're going to have an NA GT-R and another NA G45 or 450Z. If it was Corvette, they'd pull it off. Not because of the home team advantage crap, but because most vette owners are not tuners--they buy from the factory. You can tune a C6 to be faster than a Z06, and ignoring each car's potential at that point, the modded C6 would be cheaper AND faster. It doesn't matter because most vette owners are not tuners. Since buyers of Japanese cars ARE tuners to a much greater extent, cars too close are no deal at all, and would be much harder to sell.

I doubt this will happen, maybe but I doubt it. Also with the with turbocharger technology rumoured and its on a 3+litre engine I doubt there will be any turbo lag.

Lots of ways to get around lag.

Hell, electrically spool the turbo, instant boost.

This is the kind of car that you test out all the silly halo technologies that you want to get out, so a GT-R with a V-8 doesn't seem fitting, that's too...simple.

3.2 V-6, Turbocharged, either TT or with something to spool it up for boost on demand, I'm still betting AWD, with the latest ATTESSA evolution.

The main thing that suggests the smaller engine is the car was supposedly designed to be a handler, and it was even sent to lotus for suspension tuning to get the handling right.

Would they bother sticking a big 4 and a half liter lump in the nose, totally screw any hope of good weight balance, and then send it to lotus to try and fix the damage?

probably not.

A 450Z on the other hand wouldn't have to be the halo car, wouldn't have to be a world class handler, it would just have to be competent, quick, and cheap.

I'd say it's possible, but I'd bet we'd see a 4.0 Liter V-6 before a 4.5 Liter V-8.

If this would only be sold in the North American market, it would make a great GT-R 'replacement'. Remember there's no Skyline here to rival it.

I think they're going to stick with a VQ V6 in the Z. Nissan/Infiniti's 4.5 makes about 340 horses and over 300 lb-ft. If it were in a Z it would probably be tuned for more hosepower and have fairly similar torque. Say about 350-370 horsepower. I think that's almost too much. Remember that new GT-R will have, what, 400 or so hp? It will be coming to the states. You can't have these two respected namesplates performing to close to eachother. And everyone will say the GT-R has too be the top dog. Personally, I've lst much respect for GT-Rs because every 12 year old on earth thinks they're "Sweet, dude!" I don't really see it.

A. We're getting the GT-R.

B. We're already getting the "ordinary" Skyline, it's called the Infiniti G35.

It was clearly built with performance in mind, and is powered by a impressively hunky naturally-aspirated engine. I wouldn't really call it a "musclecar" myself, but that's where people get the idea.

Sounds promising, but I wouldn't necessarily trust the automotive press when Nissan hasn't said anything themselves yet... :)

It depends on the publication I guess, Autocar have got it right far more than wrong with this kind of scoop, they must have solid ionsiders in almost every car company lol. Some mags just publish rumours on anything and everything though and you don't know whats complete hearsay.
