No assists, a joke?

I never use assists except ABS 1 but if a race is very hard, theres no way im turning all the aids off. I had active stability on for the nascar series and finally won them.

In practice mode sometimes Ill turn everything off. Abs at zero, and grip reduction set to real. THAT is fun.

On second reading i think the OP has self confidence issues and has trouble driving the cars without aids, thus has come to justify his way of playing in order to perhaps convince himself that he shouldn't feel bad about it.

This is just the same as the guys who feel the need to brag about their non usage of aids.

In creating this thread you have pretty much been a complete hypocrite.

no offense, but if a person took a game that seriously that they had self confidence issues playing, then that person needs some help. I doubt thats the case for the OP.

OP.. you just dont understand that people like to conrol the car for themselfs and for me Harder in GT is more fun! I never used assists in GT and never will, Its booring for me, and as I sayd I love to control the car for myself.. just like in real life, I love cars, with Manual gearbox, and even better and fun if it has no ABS, TC etc.. my car have only ABS.. all other is just the same as I am driving in GT, ALL AIDS OFF! ;)

No assists = fun
Assists = Drive you

Not only does it drive you, but it doesn't do it right (for max speed). That's because, as stated before, it's designed for safety, not speed.

👍 100% True! :)

EDIT: little correction :)

No assists = fun
Assists = iDrive :D ("i" is just for everything smart nowdays)

Thing is, if there were an 'Easy' 'Normal' and 'Advanced' mode like many games have, yes, a LOT of you would be talking about your Level and adding that as a qualifier. Talking about an achievement without mentioning the mode you did it in doesn't hold much water on most games.

How is GT5 any different? Aids and SRF on is 'Easy Mode', Aids but no SRF is 'Normal' and no aids is 'Hard'. Tires used is also a mode indicator. No aids but Racing Softs is a lot different to no aids and Comfort Softs!

If you want to talk about what you have done in the game AT ALL, you have to include all this info or no-one really knows what you have accomplished. Play the game any way you want... but don't mention your achievement WITHOUT mentioning the level of difficulty you achieved it on. Otherwise, it has little value.

People turn them off to achieve better lap times. That being said, the assists in the game do not mimic true to life Traction Control, Active Stability, Active Steering, Or ABS, I'm not even going to touch on srf, because thats just pds's way of saying arcade mode. Abs being the biggest fake out of all the assists. Abs in GT is an automatic braking system, not anti lock braking system. Yes it helps keep you from lockin the wheels up, but it also activily brakes single wheels to make driving the car easier.

This is an argument that will never be settled. And it will always be up to the user which aids they wish to use. Yes I believe that people who use these 'aids' are depriving themself of a more realistic driving experience. And no, i'm not talking about controller users. I'm talking about people who use steering wheels. Controller vrs wheel using aids is a different argument. If you use a wheel, and use aids, your just limiting your own potential, and never actually improving your driving ability. Just hindering it hiding behind the game driving for you.

I know I will be hung from a tree for this, but I feel it needs to be brought up.

Am I the only one who has a good laugh at all the folks around here who constantly want to remind you how they never use any assists? I'm being serious, do they even know what realism is?

I for one use assists based on which car I am driving.
Am I driving a full blown race car or am I driving a stock production vehicle.

Surely if I go down to my local Lamborghini dealership and ask to drive the Murcielago and how to turn off the assists I will be laughed at. Therefore, you better believe I turn on TCS, ASM, and ABS when driving it in GT5.
Why you may ask? Because the real 🤬 car has a full blown state-of-the-art Electronic Stability Control system.

Furthermore, do those same people understand that some race cars do indeed have a form of traction control and/or other assists?
Traction control was only banned in Formula 1 at the start of the 2008 season. That says something right there. Therefore, guess what? When I drive the F2007, yes I turn on TCS.

One of the best things about GT5 is how PD has managed to give the cars life and feeling.

There is a point in the game where you can gain control when the car is at the absolute limit, and the smallest error will send you spinning off into the wall.

The driving assists in the game kick in way before the limits of your car. This is very realistic, they are there to help you maintain control of your car and that is exactly what they do.

There is something about the feeling of controlling a car that has been pushed to the point where it is marginally stable that is almost indescribable.

Its like holding a guitar when your amp is cranked up to 11, it breathes and heaves and if you touch it wrong, it will run away from you.

Once you figure out how to push a car past the point where the aids would kick in if you turn the aids back on, you can feel these systems sucking the power and life out of the car, taking the control away from you - leaving the car feeling dead and unresponsive.

When someone urges you to race with the driving aids off, they are trying share their experiences with you. Sometimes this comes off as elitist hate mongering, but they are really trying to say:

"Dude, you have got to try this! These cars are alive! It is totally freaking awesome! You are going to love it!"

If you ever do get a chance to feel this life these cars have, you will be in absolute awe that a video game can give you that kind of experience.

I only use the assists that are there in real-life cars. :P
:V

Good luck with that. How exactly are you going to know what car has what assists in real life?

Did you know the Honda Integra had traction control as a option in Japanese models from as early as 1993? Probably not.

I just leave T/C and ABS at their default settings apart from cars with 200hp or less I normally reduce T/C to 2. At the end of the day they are there to make driving with a controler more realistic so use them without guilt.

Excuse me but I take what the official Formula One website states over what wikipedia says.

ASM is the name of the stability control driving aid in GT5, it's a real aid present in most modern vehicles but not all car brands name it the same.

I already stated this and also stated that the generic real name of all the various systems used by manufactures is ESC.

BTW, unless you can prove otherwise it is impossible to turn off the AWD ATTESA-ETS assistance systems while using a stock unaltered GT-R.

You are doing exactly what I am talking about. Putting others down. Stating I have self confidence issues is a put down, thank you for proving my point.

Oh and for not reading and understanding a single thing I said.

The amount of people who have completely ignored the fact that I stated I use no aids with such things as race cars and old cars is staggering.

You completely missed the whole point of my post. Swoosh, the sound of my point flying right over your head!

Oh please do elaborate then, I'd love to hear how what you said is different than what I interpreted it as

Lets break this down, shall we?

You read the original post again. You told me I have self confidence issues. Then told me I have trouble driving the cars without aids. Proceeded to tell me I am justifying my way of playing because I have some need to convince myself that I shouldn't feel bad about it.

Have I missed anything yet?

How is me stating I am sick of the chest pounding and putting down of others over how they play the game the same.
I am all ears???

In creating this thread you have pretty much been a complete hypocrite.
I have yet to put anyone down over their way of playing. I, once again so it sinks in, was pointing out the complete misplaced arrogance people who use no assist outwardly portray towards others.

You clearly did exactly what I was talking about and then did it immediately again when I pointed it out.

"Traction control is not new to Formula One motorsport. It has been around in various guises since the 1980s, and cars like the 1992 Williams-Renault FW14-B which took Nigel Mansell to his drivers' championship title were even more electronic-packed than the current cars - featuring computer-controlled active suspension in addition. After a long period during which traction control was banned, the FIA decided to re-allow its use at the start of the 2002 season as it was becoming increasingly difficult to prove that ECUs (Engine Control Units) were not being used to replicate traction control functions."

From F1 website

Did you even read ?
1994-2002 illegal
2002-2008 legal
2008-???? illegal

It clearly with what you just quoted said "FIA decided to re-allow its use at the start of the 2002 season".

It also clearly stated what I originally said.
"And traction control will be again be outlawed altogether from the start of the 2008 season, when the introduction of standardised ECUs to the cars will make policing the ban far easier than in the past."

Nobody said they've always been using it, so nice try...

In my opinion the cars in GT5 that does not have ABS, ASM and TSC originally, should not have the possibility of enabeling this features without buying upgrates (ie. Brake controllers etc.)

I don't see a problem with people wanting to drive cars with various grades of aids on.
If you want a fair race with no aids on, just go to a lobby with no aids allowed!
The fact that some people use aids does not mean they are rookies with no skills.

On the other hand there is no doubt that if you want the ultimate challange you turn all aids off and leave your steering wheel, throttle and brake pedals do the talking;)

Long story short, you're pounding your chest to others over the way you like to play.

I do tend to floor it but even when i dont floor it i find it a little hard to control 600HP on a lightweight FR car, but i do try to keep the TCS on a low setting like 3 or 2

I don't use assists as I feel they hinder my ability to drive a car to the best of its/my abilities. The only thing I have is normally ABS at 1.

If you want to use the assists, go nuts. Your call, not mine.

I know I will be hung from a tree for this, but I feel it needs to be brought up.

I definitely see where you're coming form and a lot of cars in GT where just not meant to be driven without certain aids. I don't see any shame in driving with aids on except Skid Recovery... but otherwise everything esle is fair game. If the car came with it and drives better with that particular aid, than it's fair! Most especially after some of those racing modifications. I don't ever make a big deal about it, but whenever someone says theyh don't has aids, I just roll them eyes. 👍

I usually don't use TCS. I like to fishtail in the corners. If TCS is on it really adds to under-steer and un-necessary computer control.

So driving a 300SL, F2010, Super GT car... with TC and ABS is normal ?

Whaaaaaaaaat :indiff:

They compensate for the controlers less then perfect analog performance, come on you can't see that?

Big difference between a D pad/ x button and a steering wheel/ accelerator.

I only use ABS=1 TSC is always off
ASM on and Skidding force control on
I can't believe how some people can drive with ASM off or Skidding off, maybe with a wheel yes,but with controller is impossible.

I'm faster without aids. I use just ABS:1. Maybe is more dificult to drive, but faster. And this is the point for me.
Of course, everybody can play the game the way they want.
When i'm hosting a race, i allow all aids but skidrecovery (in my opinion this is not an aid: This is an "arcade" option.)

I play with a DS3 controller and I never use AIDS, not even ABS.
Just won against some GTP players yesterday in F1 (not some boring FGT) all without aids.

Skid Recovery is not realistic at all, it's a fictional method of making the game easy for beginners.

I use controller and drive with no aids. ABS depends on which car I'm driving.

Exactly in the same boat as you.

ABS: 1 when available IRL
ASM/TCS: on/1 when available IRL and not in the mood for a challenging race

GTplanet is infatuated with elitism, ego, and butthurt whiners.

I usually use ABS=1

For the first few days of playing I used TCS, but it robs you of so much speed its ridiculous.
