race fans one and all...

tell me, what would you say was the optimum number of laps for race enjoyment (10-15 for me)?
and how many laps before you get bored (generally speaking)?

depends on my mood. sometimes i'll really get into a groove trying to beat my own times and 40-50 laps will go by before i know it.. other times more than 15 laps gets boring, i guess it depends a lot on the car and the track...

After twenty I get bored generally, but I agree somtimes it varies alot.

If I'm racing Super Speedway or Test Course, I'll get bored after about 5 minutes playing. But if I'm racing a more complex track like Cote or SSR11, I'll never ever get bored. :D

if the opponents(computer) are to slow, I get bored after about 7-10 laps.

But when I'm racing with a friend, I'll never get bored!!

I like 10-15 lappers myself. Actually, 20 is a good number because in most cars it forces you to pit at least once. Persoanlly, I'm a big fan of the enduros with their 40-70 lap counts; I just wish I had more time to dedicate to them. I really like to get into a rhythm where I can really think about what the car is doing and how to work with it.

i would have to say that it depends on the car, and the opponents in the race. I just did the 40 lap 100 mile seattle enduro, and I had a lot of fun during that race, the reason if was fun for me, was because I made it a goal for myself to only pit once during the race, and lap all of the racers at least twice, and I was able to do that, and I was in the SS camaro

so do you even take the time to do the enduros, or the professional league?

I'm a shameless enduro/PD Cup addict, although I find the longer F1 races a bit tedious.

I tend to like the longer races, say 30-40 laps or so. Though on tracks without many features I can only go about 10 or so laps without having to pause and do something else for a bit... the ovals aren't much fun without at least 30 other cars to contend with, SSR5 and Midfield can be won on the huge straightaways they have so they tend to get stale rather quickly too.

I'll admit that I did waste an entire Saturday testing on Complex String. That track never gets old! :)

10 to 15 normally, but if it is an extremely closerace the whole way, I would enjoy it all night long or 50 laps of it

5 laps is the absoulute max for me, that's why when i'm doing certain long series races like grand championships or something they couldspan over a couple days to complete. :D

Minimum 3 laps in beginner, 5 laps amateur and 10 laps in Pro.

Final series in each league longer.

PD Cup 15 laps not 20.

Formula GT slightly less laps but all tracks.

I like any numebr of laps provided it is a good race. I have blown away the competition in the past an found it boring after 1 lap. But when I have been well matched I have enjoyed any number of laps including 15 drafting the R390 at Test Course.

Yeah, I did that once - I was racing a 10-race series (forgot which one :banghead: ), using the F1 against the 787B who was my main competition, and I was racing at Test Course. I forgot to put the Auto Setting way up high and spent the race drafting and being drafted by the 787B. In the end I came second by about 0.100 of a second, but it was still a good race. 👍

I'd say it is totally a question based on what the goal is...

If Im going for the best time, "hot lap." Then it is an unlimited number, usually running up to atleast 20 per session.

However, if Im just going through the motions to beat a series in order to get a specific car... I want the race to be as short as possible... maybe one or two laps.

In a perfect enviroment where Im just racing for the fun of it, the five lapper is ok with me.

I had actually written an essay on this but my internet connection at work stuffed up an I lost the lot. I would prefer Seattle and Monaco reduced in length in the Formula GT championship but all Endurance races be towards the longer end of the scale and all tracks have an endurance race, including complex string, probably 20 laps LOL.

I actually prefer longer races even with no specific goals maybe 10-15.

All this talk about laps (I know I am weird) I feel like doing the Roadster Endurance since I still need the VR Limited A anyway and plenty of money.

The question is can I do it in an MX5 1.8RS. I have the 1.8i but think I might have a go with the RS.

Actually, grumpy, I agree. I like Formula GT, but I skipped the last race because it would've taken me more than 1 1/2 hours.

As to Seattle - leave it, it's perfect length, and my pit strategy absolutely owned.

Some times i wouldn't mind a good old 50 lap stint on Complex String...heh...brings back memories of the legendary one hundred lap event :)

I could actually do with 2 more laps. 6 doesn't divide into 40 evenly. Yes I know I am hard on the tires.

I usually go for at least 10-15 laps . Sometimes it depends on the car , as well as the track .

Yep, definitely - I pitted every 8 laps, and my tyres were fine.

I checked how hard I could be on tyres before each race (in qualifying mode I'd roar around the track) and I found that if I was fairly easy I could do 8 laps before pitting, thus enabling an amazing pit strategy.

In qualifying mode I could only do 5 laps driving my hardest.

Yeh it was...have you seen my photographic proof? ;)

Masterblaster, you must have a real short attention span if you are being serious...
