i am feeling so depressed can anyone please show me a proper video of an online race without all the bouncing on each other and jerky laggy cars and can the people who have the game tell me what they think about online races:)
thank you

It's really fun! but the penalty system is screwed.. and there are a lot of freaks who are bouncing on purpose all the time :indiff:

Yeah my online also has skittish/whacko opponents. here is a vid of what its like for me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkuAj_EAv-Y.

That link suggests its to do with PS3's wireless internet connection which I'm using, but I have ADSL2+ so Bandwidth isnt an issue (and I play COD4 with no problems whatsoever).

Anyone know what the problem might be?

Here is another vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCiL4QnwbUs&feature=related
Perhaps I might try a wired connection and see if the issue persists.

I had a go last night, some lag more than others but any lag is very minimal and doesnt seem to be much of a problem.

Private rooms ftw though..

Its quite good online, but it reminds me so much of bumper cars!. Some people just bump every1 else this is soo annoying, but quite funny to wacth if you dont get it!!:D
Sometimes i see people bouncing which makes me laugh:P but i thinkts that to do with lag and dosnt cuase me any problems!!

The online racing is ok, but not brilliant. I think there should be more freedom to do the intermediate and expert races before completing the entire single player game.

I think the interface for it all is wrong. I'v played F1 championship many times online, and its much better. Sign into the server, host or join a game, chat to people in the lobby before hand, and the host PS chooses all the settings, l;ike laps etc.

I really think GT needs to get it sorted a bit better.

I think online isn't bad once you get used to it and recognise the accident hotspots on the tracks. Usually better to hang back when you see 3 cars fighting for position and just let them trip over each other rather than get caught up in someone else's accident.

Beginner can be a bit hectic with psychos and wall riders/rammers, also with these only being 2 laps and standard physics, the field is very bunched together and accidents are almost certain. Expert is better; with slightly more considerate drivers, pro physics and more laps this means there is less bunching and less people doing silly things.

There is the occasional skittish car, but thats usually down to their connection. I am host for about 99.8% of the games I play, and I don't think wireless makes that much difference.

A few tweaks to the penalty system; a little more refinement, and it should be a lot of fun in the future.

Bandwidth doesn't really matter for online play, the quality/response of the connection (ping) to the servers/other players is much more important :)

(mine is 20ms with a wired 20 down 1 up Mbit ADSL2+ connection tested on my PS3)

Last night I had about 15 races online, mostly at Fuji F and Suzuka long. No big lagging. Four or five of those were really great fights for the first place. Ten of those races were ok, thight pack racing, waiting for other's mistakes, me also making mistakes.. But not any big morons online this time!

"Slow in - Fast Out" doesn't work for me online... it's more a case of "Slow in - Rammed Off"

I haven't had one single race with PAL GT5:P online yet that hasn't been carnage. Last night I was trying to get the 'Vette round daytona on pro/no-aids and for about 3 or 4 races in a row the same guy in a Yellow Ford GT just kept ramming be off at Turn 1... I don't recall the JPN GT5:P ever being this bad.

I did 2 races online on Friday night. I had just started the game so was only eligle for the "beginner" races. I entered the High Speed ring race in my Integra and it was just a wallriding, crash-fest.

I won't be using online again until I'm able to enter the higher levels. Most of the "kids" will give up before they get that far, so the driving standards should improve a bit.

I agree, a lot of the races, its not like racing against enthusiasts who can actualy drive, its like racing against little 5 year old kids! Surely someone who is actually good, or wants to be, is clever enough to do exactly what the F1 drivers do in real life... pick and remember a breaking point and remember it, but of course that would be probably be too simple...

The issue I'm having is not so much people not using racing lines properly, but with car movement so bad, that I suspect it might be a connection issue. I mean, look at the first 10 seconds of this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCiL4QnwbUs&feature=related There is no way at the 10 second mark, the car can move that fast around the screen. So the only thing I can think of is a dodgy wireless PS3 connection.

Anyone else have the same irratic behavior of opponents as posted in the two youtube vids I posted previously? It'll save me time troubleshooting my PS3 but I doubt the video footage is people actually racing!

Fruitcake, is there any way to test the connection and get test results on the PS3 regarding connections?

Do a search for "adsl speed test", or "connection speed test" and you'll find some located in the UK. As a previous poster mentioned you need bandwidth to pass the data through, but most DSL connections should do that without a problem, the other issue is response time.

Your problem sounds like it might be packet loss which can occur if one of you neighbours is trying to use the same Wireless channel as you. Try wired and see if it helps, then change channel if it does.

GT5: P online is just a complete mess. It shows that the PS Network is just a complete shambles. Having raced excellent races in Forza 2, PGR4 and Flatout Ultimate Carnage, my experience of racing games on the PSN has left me wanting to chuck the system out of the window.

So many cheats online make the game no fun to play, it just goes to show that you get what you pay for. Free online service means a bare bones network full of cheating little twits who's sole aim is to take people out.

Not impressed by online gaming on PS3 so far.

I hate the unfair drivers. I was on daytona earlier, started 7th and made it to second and as im drafting up to the guy in 1st on the last lap he brake tests me. :(

@Stonie:

Hmm, that's a bit harsh, isn't it? If PD looks at the online mode of Formula 1 Championship Edition, or just simply sort out the unfair penalties, you know, where the one who gets bashed also gets te penaltie, than this definitely will be the God of racegames again.

Same here, they should atleast lift the 'penalty level',maybe that gives us better races.

They should not only lift it, user ajustable would do the trick, no, the most important thing is to punnish the cheater instead of his/her victims, that also is probably the most difficult problem to tackle, but if they manage to do so.... man ... online GT will leave all the competition behind (by miles)

I'm fed up with it, penalties are so buggy at the moment. People can knock me sideways and run me off the track and not get penalties but if someone breaks heavily in front of me and I hit them I get a 4s one. Whats fair in that?

Also, if you want to see what I mean about unfair drivers try daytona pp650 pro online.

All of these problems could be rectified with private arenas/rooms.

I understand this is the plan and will be available as an update? Is this true? Also, any idea when cos i'm getting pi*sed with the idiots online as well....

Why buy a racing sim game and use it that way???

If you bang someone in front who's breaking for a corner, you ARE the one deserving a penalty, in real racing you'd be pointed out the cause of the crash, it's just simple, driving behind someone: be careful not to crash into him.

A bigger problem is me braking on a braking point, turn into the corner, get smashed by you behind me braking too late, and me ending up with a penalty for smashing. Now that's just plain unfair.

Like most, we have only had this game for a few days and I am already fed up of on-line.

I don't get it.. People clearly don't get the game.. Where as I get overtaken and just think 'fair play' and then try and keep my line, hoping to beat them around the next corner using SKILL, everyone else seems to think that its an arcade game.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am thinking that it would be better if they simply turned collisions off (i.e everyone was a ghost all the time)...

You would still race together.. There would still be a winner.. But each person would be reponsible for their own time by skill.. Of course there would be no drafting or overtaking, even everyone might end up on the same spot on the track at times.. But I am wondering if it would be better...

Also, they need to get rid of the rolling start.. Whats the point of a 2 lap race, if you are 1/4 of lap behind at the start.. Alteast put in some kind of simple qualification test at the start.. Or perhaps start out as a very tight 'grid'...

Don't get me wrong.. There is a need for 'collisions', but until PD can work out a way to make it fair, the current model is actually making it impossible to play and more importantly enjoy!

@Rowdy Burns & jweaver

I totally agree, and REALLY REALLY hope that update comes soon! I dont know if either of you have played F1 championship, but i have it and the online there is briliant compared - PD clearly need to take note.
