Good racing last night. On cold tires I had an unfortunate bump into Saga that caused us to lose touch with the draft (sorry Saga) but he and I had a really fun battle for many laps. I had a good lead on him with a few laps to go and completely lost grip at the bottom of the hill going into the right-hander under the bridge and I visited the beach. Saga cruised on by, but lucky for me he spun it a lap later coming out of the hairpin on the back straight and I got the position back.

Here are the results for the final race of the season. Congratulations to Carracerptp on taking the Friday Championship.

We'll use this thread to discuss next season, I don't expect a very long break. I really enjoyed this car and I know a lot of others did too so we're going to stick with it for now. I'll get a new season setup that will run just like this one did but we will add one more race. We'll have some testing sessions over the next week or two at a variety of tracks to find a good selection, I do have a few in mind already. I'm open to any feedback on what you liked or didn't like about this season (no need to comment on la Sarthe, we won't be going back).

 :gtpflag:

Looking forward for the next season with these cars.👍
Grand Valley East (reverse) would be nice. I do alot better reverse than regular for some reason. :sly:

Will it be still the same nights and times as well??

We definitely need to keep Grand Valley East and Motegi Oval. Apart from that, I really have no real preferences on tracks. I would prefer shorter tracks though.

Nice pace, Jeff.
Congrats, Carr!
I'd love to see Nurb24hr layout race, maybe even make it an hour long. It's hairy to run on generally, but with a regular group we have here - chances of having a decent race are higher and 24hr layout gives a chance to spread out on the first lap.
And any repetition is somewhat boring.

So my suggestions:
1)Spa (possibly instead of Sarthe, fairly similar draft-fest)
2)Something short and sweet, like Suzuka-East
3)Something with a long straight for safe passing: Indy road or Fuji F
4)Some decent street course. I'd pick either Tokyo straight/reverse or one of the SSR5 versions
5)Finale @Nurb/24hr (possibly with day/night transition).

Just to get an idea how fast Owens was, He beat Kingbests overall time.

I would really like a 24r race at the ring as well. And I would hope to see Motegi Oval again.

Hate nurburgring lol.

Hate nurburgring lol.

 I felt your pain for awhile, but then I learned where I was on the track. Running practice laps in pitch black will help you learn the track fast. I wouldn't mind running a one hour endurance on the 24H layout.

Hate nurburgring lol.
For close racing in a pack of drivers with very similar pace - it's really bad. It requires quite a bit of patience. Especially in GT5 where far too many guys confuse draft with being faster than the guy in front and go for passes.
But if the field gets spread a bit, Nurb w/day&night cycle is just too pretty to hate it.

Congrats to Jeff and Travis on their wins 👍

I'll be looking out for a re-run of this series if it goes ahead. Good close racing with this car :)

Yes

Nurb GP/D or GP/F (F1)
Spa (Legend)
Laguna (challenging)
Monza (lots of draft passing here)
Fuji GT (much preferred to the chicane and an underutilized version of the track)
Autumn Ring (a little shorter but very technical)
Grand Valley (classic)
Road Course Indy (nice and wide usually makes for clean racing)
Motegi Oval, East and Full (still new and exciting)
Custom Layout (ones without silly banking and corners on the top of mountains)

No

Any street course. Car is too fast for Monaco and I find faster street courses make for the worst racing because of the instant speed loss and contact that often ensues when one rubs the barriers around the track, which usually happens to the guy in front of me...lol.
Eiger
Tsukuba
LeMans
Full Nurb (nice to drive, crap to race on)

Nurb GP/D or GP/F 👍 We ran a race in practice here and it was a blast.
Laguna 👍 Never can go wrong.

Let's plan a test session for this evening, if anyone will be around. I'll be on around 7pm EDT. I'd like to test Motegi East, Nurb GP's, Laguna, GVE-R, Indy Road.

7pm is open for me.

Congrats to the winners, I should be around tonight

I might actually be around tonight as well... Every race needs a rolling chicane, right? :dopey:

Most likely make it tonight too.

I'm in the lounge for some testing, feel free to join.

On my way.

I'll be there in 5-10 minutes.

Why can't I do that in a real race?

I'll probably be 🤬 and :censored:ed on for even mentioning this, but as much as I like the Silvia, it would also be nice to consider changing cars as well. There are other cars in the same relative speed category that handle well and are fun to drive. GT300 cars for example on SM's (more downforce so they need less tire grip) would be very close. Many street cars on SS tires are very close in performance to the Silvia as well, like the Ferrari California or BMW M3 for example. The difficulty I thought we had in choosing cars early one was trying to find two that are closely matched but once we switched to a one-make series everything fell into place. Just throwing that out there as an option. :scared: 1000+ cars in the game so we have a few options...just sayin'...lol.

Hey I understand where you are coming from, but I am going to leave that one up to Brandon. :)

While I like racing different cars on tracks that suit them, I don't particularly enjoy the process of testing what works well. New cars = lots of testing = must be done by someone. And I'm not that someone, so I guess it's either down to someone testing a particular car on a lot of tracks and suggesting it or to doing what Brandon comes up with. Are you suggesting the beemer, Johnny? Which tracks did you test it at? I only tried it once or twice on GVE and Nurb GP/F iirc, and it was decent.

After deciding that multiple cars wouldn't work (I still think it would) we tried to find a single-make car to race and went through several different models before I settled on the Silvia. The Silvia was the only one (of the ones we tested) that I felt would produce really good racing for all skill levels and that seems to have panned out nicely. I've had several positive comments about the Silvia too.

This was a kind of tester season to see if I could find a format that allowed me to do as little as possible on my end and still have a good, organized series. It seems to have worked and in the process we've found a car that's quite fun to race. That may sound a little strange, but basically the less I have to do on my end the more fun I have and the more likely I am to continue running a series. For this go-round I had to do very little and the (short) season still seemed to be as successful as previous seasons/series, which is good. I want to find a good template that we can stick to, use the same basic format for races and points (so I can use the same spreadsheet each season), from there we can hopefully swap out cars as we choose while everything else remains (basically) the same.

So for the time being we are going to stick with the Silvia RM, at least for one more season but perhaps for two more seasons. I think the direction of GT5 is up in the air right now, as it stands the game is pretty broken and that makes running a series more difficult than it should be/used to be. I have very little hope of seeing many more updates that would address the current problems, so I think we're pretty much stuck with the game in its current state which is disappointing. But this formula that we used (minus the time change race) seemed to side-step most of the issues so I'm fairly comfortable in moving forward with this format.

Kind of a long-winded answer to a short question, but I wanted to give insight into my thought process and not just say "we're sticking with this car because I said so". We will stick with it for a little while and continue with some back-to-back seasons (without a several month break in between) so we can all get our racing fix in an easy to access format. 👍

I've tested many cars already and there are many suitable ones. I'd be willing to test any number of cars on any number of tracks. No intense offended, I just don't want this to turn into another Cappuccino Cup type of deal where we run the same car over and over only to discover there are many other good cars in the game just waiting to be driven. And with all the variety in the game there are dozen of cars that are well behaved in spec form, racing and street cars alike, and can make for good racing.

However, the decision is made...

By the way, is anyone having trouble with the game loading the last day or so? Takes forever for the cursor to either appear or unlock if it's already appeared? Stuck on certain screens for extended periods?

Happened to me last night for the first time in several months.

No intense taken. :dunce:

Honestly, if I didn't grow to hate the Cappuccino so much we might have run it even longer then we did. It's hard to find a good car that everyone enjoys. Even this Silvia RM is total rubbish on some tracks (take a spin at Fuji, you'll see what I mean). Like Dan said, switching to a different car would take more testing and the last time it took me/us 3-4 months to make a decision. I'd rather just keep the ball rolling and run with the Silvia RM again.

In all fairness, there are many series available on this forum running a variety of the available cars from the game. If people want something besides the Silvia RM they have plenty of options. I can't offer every car in the game though, and my attempts to broaden our horizons with more cars have resulted in delays or outright failures. However, a one-make no-tuning series has worked well for us so I do intend to stick with that formula for a while. It won't always be with the Silvia RM, but that will be our car for at least one more season and perhaps more. 👍

Not at all trying to shoot you down JP, but I do believe you were the one that said "Let's not wait 6 months to do it again!". :sly: After losing complete interest in GT5 for a few months the Silvia re-kindled my desire to race and I'm sure we all want that desire to stay with me. We'll think about a new car in the future but for know I'd just like to keep a good thing going and see where it leads.

I really liked the Silvia for a couple reasons. The biggest one being how well it "races".
Many cars are great cars to drive but few cars are fun when racing door to door (or nose to tail ). I think Silvia's predictable handling made it great at this.

To find another car like it I think group testing is needed, and that takes time.

EDIT:
If it comes in time...

We must try it 👍 I can dream...

That's exactly what I was shooting for when selecting a car, and this Silvia did a great job of it. I wanted a car that allowed the guys at the back of the pack to have a little better control which would allow them to do better in traffic and thus get some good experience/have more fun. During the course of our races I found myself in many hairy situations that would have resulted in chaos in most other cars but the Silvia found its way through and carnage was avoided (most of the time).
