Whatever car you choose, Brandon, I'll be there to cause the first crash :D.

If it comes in time...

We must try it 👍 I can dream...

Man, I wish! I'm guessing GT6 though. It seems to me they've kinda washed their hands of GT5 and have moved on. We don't even get server maintenance anymore. :( It almost seems like GT6 will be released on the PS3 which gives me mixed feelings. It would be nice to have it sooner than later but this hardware is already too limited to really handle GT5 properly so a lot of sacrifices would be made.

They'll have to do a major internal hardware upgrade, while still calling it a PS3. I find this unlikely. Otherwise it's hard to believe that there's anything left to be squeezed out of PS3.

^ That's my general thinking too. The current game already needs more power than the console can offer. But there has suddenly been a lot of talk about GT6, a lack of support for GT5 and everything we hear from Sony says a new console is several years out. All that makes it start to feel like a watered down GT6 will be out sooner than a PS4. Just speculation, either way I'm not getting my hopes up for Silverstone any time soon.

^Just drove the Silverstone, hehe ;)

It was already confirmed that they were mapping out Bathurst but I can't imagine going through the work of developing any "real life" tracks with that stragglers left still playing this game. Be a nice enticement for GT6 to throw on the cover, "Now featuring Silverstone and Bathurst" so my guess is they are just gathering the preliminary data and screen shots for future development. Hopefully at a few more tracks besides those as well:idea:

I for one would not be surprised if they can eek more out of the PS3. Optimize the code in some way, shape or form to better utilize the hardware. It's been done with other software. And since the PS3 was used to build more than one supercomputer, albeit with a bunch, I expect they can squeeze more out of it. Last I heard, the USAF is still putting the one they built to use.

The problem isn't necessarily the PS3, it's more PD's/Kaz's desire to be as close to 60fps as possible at all times. This forces them to make all kinds of compromises throughout the game (blocky trees, boxy shadows/smoke, rolling starts instead of standing starts, etc.). If they were willing to cut back to 40fps (which is likely more than enough) it would free up some processing power. Other games accomplish a lot more with the same hardware but they do not have the highly detailed cars and über-high frame rate of GT5.

Granted, the PS3 has less RAM than most smartphones and that does severely limit its abilities. It's amazing they accomplished what they did with GT5 but a lot of sacrifices were made. Some are inconsequential, some aren't. But that does mean if GT6 shows up on the current console it will be more of a beefed up/optimized GT5 and less of a re-invention.

IMHO, take GT4's gameplay, tracks and menus, add a GT5.5 improved physics, add online, add 20-30 2008 or newer RWD cars (I don't care what). And PD can have my 60 dollars.

I really don't think the game needs to look "better" on the PS3.

^You guyz are too easy to please. I want playable 1080p 120hz 3D play from GT6.

I like the title: "ORCA Silvia Spec Cup - Tues Champ OwensRacing, Fri Champ Carracerptp"

Well done PURE 👍

I'd prefer more circuits as there are only a large handful that are really suitable for series racing.

So, back on topic. Testing the other night, SSR5 is right out and we likely won't see any street circuits as I don't believe they create good racing (for the most part). Nurburgring GP/D was great but we'd likely go to the GP/F variant for the season (quite likely). I'm undecided about High Speed Ring, I have never even considered it for a points race before but it's not bad at all. It would be a bit hairy due to the very high speeds but there are several passing opportunities which makes for good racing. Perhaps we should do the off-season fun race I proposed at HSR to see what it's like in actual race conditions.

Other tracks I'm considering:
Indy Road
Monza (with chicane)
Spa (car doesn't drive well here though)
Suzuka full
Motegi East

I'm all for the fun race, especially if it is at a euro friendly time.

High speed ring can be great fun, but those grey cobblestones can really flick the car into a spin. I've not tried the Sylvia at HSR though.

Anyone tried the car at Fuji?

Are you free this Saturday? Maybe we could get something together that suits both time zones.

Silvia is good at HSR, cobblestones don't seem to cause any problems at all. We did some racing there last night and it was pretty fun, if a bit nail-biting. It has an oval-race feel to it.

The Silvia is terrible at Fuji. I have no idea why but the car just will not turn at that track. We attempted a race there a while back and I aborted after just two practice laps, I believe everyone in the room was in agreement too. Lots of "whoa, why won't this thing turn??" and "I keep pushing into the run-off area". It was bizarre. Spa has some of the same tendencies but not quite as pronounced.

Both tracks are made to make cars understeer. The number 1 reason I hate Fuji.

We tried Tokyo after you left. Might not be too bad.

If you don't mind me adding to this, I agree that Tokyo would be a good track to consider in either direction (it does flow better the right way round though IMO). It would be the only street circuit I would consider as it's wide and offers a couple of passing opportunities. I'm keeping my eye on the thread and looking forward to joining you guys for some races soon. :)

How about a custom track to mix things up?

Tokyo is one of those tracks I enjoy driving around but hate racing there. Most of the corners, while they appear very wide, actually only have one good line through them. This makes overtaking difficult and usually messy. If I end up at a loss for tracks I'll consider it but for now I'm trying to stay away from city courses.
Looking forward to racing with you Don. 👍

How about a custom track to mix things up?

Eh. We've tried that before and it never worked very well. Everyone would have to download it and practice at it (simple in theory but not in practice), and inevitably people want the track to be modified this way or that way. And for selfish reasons, custom tracks only display on the center monitor of a triple monitor setup. 👍 I just want to pick 5 good circuits and quickly get another season going so custom tracks are out for now.

Shouldn't we at least test some other cars. I know that there are plenty of cars that can provide the same kind of racing that the Silvia has.

Well, before this season started we spent about 4-6 weeks testing a variety of cars. Before that I attempted a different format that saw us driving a new car each week. After all that I/we settled on the Silvia and I setup a short "test" season, which we just finished. I didn't feel like 4 weeks was long enough for a season and I (along with at least a few others) didn't get my fill of this car so we're going to do another season with it, 5 weeks this time.

A brief history, this group started off as the Capp Cup and we ran the Cappuccino RM for 3 seasons, after which we ran the Alfa TZ2 for a season. I then tried a different format that had no points but put us in a different car each week, and this format didn't succeed. We then had a bit of a hiatus while I decided what I wanted to do and after about 2-3 months I finally got this short Silvia season off the ground. After our long break, I think the majority of the group would rather have another season of the Silvia start up in a couple weeks instead of trying to find a new car that everyone enjoys which could take a lot longer.

I can donate Castlehill if you guys want to use it, the Capp guys seemed to like it. Just upload it on the ORCA_Champ account, if people want it, they'll get it.

Is that the one that's ten miles wide?

I've got over 200 custom tracks I've built, a handful of those are really good. I have one that is very, very close to Lime Rock and another that's very close to Mid-Ohio. But I haven't touched any of them or been in the track editor since I got the triple-monitors. It's a high-class problem, I know. :dopey:

I have a 10-mile wide version, and a much narrower one that was for FMSC.

Off topic, but thought you'd all like to know that Alex Zanardi won at Brands Hatch today.
The event was hand cycling as part of the London 2012 Paralympics.

That's awesome, I heard he was competing. I was watching the race where he lost his legs, such a bizarre accident with such tragic results. He still races motor cars (at least he did) with hand controls and wants to run the Indy 500 again one day. 👍

 to Mr. Zanardi

Hi

Car is great and standard tracks are better. LoL

With that. When do we start again?

When I read that for some reason I pictured your dog in the your avatar saying it

Yes, I vote Brandon draws up a track list and we get racing 👍 My only request is that we keep at least 1 variation of Motegi.
