To my knowledge only the Mirage.. `

Speaking of, I just did some ILS landings and it works pretty fine. Not all the time, somehow when I put the autopilot on landing it goes retarded. @GregTheStig what do I do wrong? :p

I think the Su27 also has fly by wire integrated to some extent. Disabling it is what allows us to do cobras... or inverted flat spins in my case :p

If I had to guess, it would have something to do with what the compass/HSI was set to. Depending on how you have all that set, autopilot will follow your HSI course.

Your HSI course is indicated by the little green triangle thing in the red circle and you change that using the dial that the arrow is pointing to. The HSI modes probably come into play (which you change using the dial in the square) - I mostly fly with that set to Cv Nav. This all might depend on your INS being set to NAV.

So maybe you had messed with some of that stuff previously and autopilot tried to follow your HSI course. I know that the plane will realign itself if you adjust the HSI course while autopilot is engaged... that's actually how I discovered this and I found it pretty useful for long distance autopilot. It makes it more accurate.

Also it's neat that we can use photos of the actual cockpit to explain stuff in this game.

Ohh thank you! 💡 I got it explained through the chat and I probably misunderstood. Makes a lot of sense now..

Dan
What's the largest diameter bomb in DCS, by the way?

Not sure but this one is pretty big..

Hmm... if they have a tactical nuke, why not upgrade to the B-61? :D

Hehe yeah wouldn't mind. Maybe if we ever get the F-15E it can throw B-61's..

Screwing around a bit with the AI

Are the tanker booms AI controlled, or can a player hop in and "help?" :sly:

You know what we haven't done in a while? Fly together :D Assuming ping between each other isn't too bad we should find a time to do a flight and/or mission together.

Would be nice to do! Recently we have our 'own' servers. DCS-NL 1 and 2. Most of the times the '2' server is for 2.0. We have a nice mission running on 1.5 with easy and hard targets, ground and air. Try the server out if you like and see how your ping is. If your ping is good we can go from there! :D

I went looking for it last night and couldn't find it (I probably get off work too late for you guys). If you want to PM me the IP address of the server I can try pinging it myself. I was getting to a UK server at around 200ms so I'm hoping it's not terrible to NL :)

edit: found it! Ping is 160.

Oh that's pretty nice right? I can't stay up late coming week though, it's probably night time for me when you are online.

Can't go right now, I don't want to run into the air police.

160 range isn't bad. I play on a few servers with ping that high and it's okay. I get off work at 11PM UTC so yeah week days probably won't work. We can all find a weekend to do it :)

lol, started reading this and I looked at the HSI.. Sat in my chair and said, "So it's pretty much like a 172 (cessna), King Air, or a Grand Caravan... Spin the knob, hit NAV, taadaa"

Random, but has anyone had trouble flying the Mirage since the last 1.5 update? Talking about the "stable" release. They changed something with the flight model and now all my plane wants to do is roll. It's like I'm flying a medicine ball. Where I used to be able to make fine adjustments by lightly moving the stick, those same inputs now have an amplified effect if that makes any sense. The initial roll rate is insanely high now. It's like they decided to up the sensitivity tenfold. I've never set curves for the Mirage because I never had to, but even if I raise them the twitchiness is still there. It's driving me mad because the Mirage was beautiful to fly before this :'(

Heard some complains about it, it seems to crash a lot more too. I'll try to make some time coming week to try it out.

I'm starting to see some complaints about it too, but nothing quite like what I was talking about. It does still have a bit of a tendency to pitch up though, which was reported. I also experienced the crash... or a crash when I turned radar on and started scanning. They say it crashes if radar finds anything that's jamming. Sucks for us, but everyone else now has a really good tactic at their disposal :p

Also, Normandy map screen shots!

There's a lot of good stuff coming our way. Between that and the Spitfire (and probably Corsair), I may have to get back into WWII planes again.

Soo jamming crashes the Mirage, good to know... :P It's sad they have troubles with the Mirage because it is a lovely plane. Had a lot of fun throwing bombs too, although my hit rate is 1 out of 10 :scared: Buddy-laser might come in handy in the future when it's better developed.

Ooh, Normandy looks nice! I have tried out the Bf109 some times now but can't say I really like it. All you do is trim trim trim and when you pull some G's it just snaps out of control. Maybe this is the charm of a WW2 plane but me no likey. What is your experience with these bricks?

Spitfire looks nice, would buy if it is nicer to fly... :)

I only have experience with the TF51 in DCS. I enjoy it but need to spend more time with it to get good and learn what it can really do. I used to play Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1 and 2 way back in the day (with the same stick I'm using now lol) so I love em. Spitfire would probably be an instant buy for me but it depends on the timing. I'm anticipating buying the F14 and F18 this year if they release on time (lol) so I may have to hold off on the Spit.

Ah I remember I tried that one out too and the wing broke loose when I pulled too much G. It flew better/easier than the Bf109 though. Can't say I did a landing I could walk away from :P

F-18 is still on release? If it comes this year I'm not buying the F-14, screw that! Hornet all the way :D

Last I heard is that they were planning to have it in early access by the end of the year, but you know how that goes. I think the biggest hurdle was getting 1.5 and 2.0 out so now we're getting into some of the good releases.

F14 will be out first. Are you suuuuuuuuure you don't want the F14? ;P

Hehe, yeah well............. The F-18 probably isn't going to be released this year, I would be amazed if it is even for early access. And to go from the F-14 to the F-18 sounds like a nice transfer. Have to admit, it does look really nice. Now we need a KA-6 Intruder so someone can fill me up :P
