First I highlighted the bass by tracing it with a "select" tool, then I inverted the selection so everything but the bass was highlighted, then I adjust the hue to make it black and white, then adjust the brightness and contracts of the black and white.

I was working with a very large image so it turned out pretty clean. Here's a link to the original pic:
