Well, you generally have to over expose for what an average meter reads, like a stop or so. Some adjustment in post can help with blacks and and anything that is a touch over exposed.

It is actually a gird of LED Christmas lights. Same as what is lit up behind me. They are a fairly white source of light that allowed for a smooth texture, leading to no harsh shadows.
