This is the first, and will probably be the only GT4 dream I state it for....

...but if a Porsche 935 Kremer K4 makes it in, I will officially fill my pants with cream.

So easy to do, Porsche = 911 for lots of purists. It's Porsches best car (not in pure speed, but in significance).

Agreed on the Carerra GT though, a mid-engined V10 convertible doesn't sound like a Porsche to me, and i don't think it fits in with what Porsche is. But im a Porsche purist.
Then again it is a damn good mid-engined V10 convertible.

I certainly wouldn't call the Carrera GT a Californian vanity car. Porsches aim with this model was to create the ultimate roadgoing sports car. The Carrera GT was originally conceived at the 24 Hours of Le Mans ... And any car that has spent countless laps pounding around the Nurburgring Nordschleife should be included in GT4, since after all, that track will be in. Oh yeah, and the main man himself, Walter Rohrl tested it.

Sounds good enough for me.

I hate to say this, as there seem to be quite a few Porsche fans on here..........................but I'm reallty hoping Porsche don't get in the game.

IMO their cars are so samey it's untrue. They sold their supercar stylus down the river when they started making 4x4's for estate agents and Mum's to drive their brats to school in. They've been making the 911 since God was a lad, which they all look the same and they new "Supercar" looks like a computer designed it and not a person.

On saying this, there are still a few that I'd love to drive. But knowing my luck, Porsche will make it into the game, but these three cars wont.

..and whats all that with the wooden gear knob?! - it looks so out of place!

Porsche say its a nod towards the 917 - but come on! if thats not trying to add some racing cache to the car...

I know porsche are trying to diversify their range - but it just seems that they are going soft - aiming to stroke owners egos with cars that do all the work for the drivers. But this isn't what porsche built their formidable reputation on!!!

This isn't a classic convertible. It has 2 removable hard tops so when they are on it doesn't look like a convertible. Good compromise IMO. Take them off and go through a tunnel to hear that V10 scream even more! :)

Fair enough.

The 917 had a gearnob fashioned from balsa wood (because this was the best weight saving material back in the days when carbonfibre was non existant) and the Carrera GT has an interpretation of this.

Personally I think it's a nice touch and pretty cool since it's inherting the legacy left by the Le Mans conquering 240mph 917. What's wrong with with adding some "racing cache" to a modern supercar?
 
Hahaha it seems to me TheCracker is a purist, and in a purists eyes the Carerra GT will always be compromised and will always be second to the 911.
Focused sports car VS convertible grand tourer.

The 911 is coming to an end guys ... End of the road for the rear engined layout! Porsche know it. That's why the GT is mid engined. They finally saw light :)

LOL, that's what they said when they were bringing out the 928, how a rear-engined flat-6 is illogical. How a front mounted V8 would be the new car for Porsche. But look at the 911, only slightly slower than a GT, but for much much less money. Porsche GT3's just dominated GT class at LeMans and your telling me they are near the end of their life? ;) I mean, just look at my sig, sais it all realy.

Calm down Pistachio! I know how great the 911's are but at the end of the day I would have a mid engine over a rear engine. Porsche have been evolving the 911 for so long now ... Just a matter of time before they change it and all you purists cry :scared:

In terms of Le Mans it was the bad boy mid engined Audi that won.!! And I hope Porsche dominated the GT class because there was certainly enough of them :lol:
 
The 911 will still be going strong well after the Carrera GT has been classed as a curious little chapter in Porsches history. It was out-classed by the Enzo even before it came out! The Carrera GT is little more than a marketing tool, it has/never will have any competition history therefore can't possibly be considered a 'real' porsche just like the other current 'range expanders'. Unless i'm very much mistaken - every other porsche model has competiton history.
 
Another few points to think about :

On paper it's 604bhp give best to the Enzo, but these German horses are obviously in particularly fine fettle. GT's performance is monstrous." (evo 61 - the supercar issue)​

"So the Enzo is a few ticks quicker, but consider this: Unlike the Enzo, which has an automated manual transmission that automatically operates the clutch and shifter, the Carrera GT has a good ol' six-speed manual and a traditional clutch." The fact that the GT has a traditional box wins the day for me.

Yeah, sometimes having a sequential automated box seems a bit wrong. Like in an M3, seems odd to get a sports car that is meant for the sheer pleasure of driving and then take away the clutch operation and choice of skipping gears.
 
Hair dressers would drive Carrera GT's if they could afford them ;)


...i totally agree about the manual gearbox arguement though!

wood knob, ya that's ****e but i saw a GT from the LA auto show and it had an billetted aluminum shift knob so maybe the wood is an optional trim kit.
 
The figures mean nothing - its still designed to attract posers, although not as much as the SLR
 
You would need to cut_a lot_of hair to buy a Carrera GT: £332,000 or something.

An Audi TT is designed for posers. A Carrera GT isn't.
 
911 & Porsche World Magazine from last month says that both Charles Worthington and Vidal Sasson have Carrera GT's on order
 
I have to agree with Cracker.

Don't think im comparing it to the Enzo or McLaren F1 or anything, im just saying that Porsche could have made this car a coupe and increased rigidity by a sizable margin... but they didn't.
To be convertible is to be compromised, it is sacrificing performance for posing ability.

Imagine if that lost weight in strengthening the base of the car had been removed then it might've been quicker than the Enzo...

actually i belive the Carrera GT has a carbonfibre monocoque tub, meaning it doesn't need the roof as a support - so we can't use that arguement, but just because you could - doesn't mean you should!

There are 3 porsches in the car park where I live... (1 Boxster, one Carrera S, One Turbo)
(There's also a couple of Z4's, couple of MGTF's about 10 new mini's (And one old one!) and an RX7 that sounds like it's had it's engine replaced with a trains!!)

There is a Ferrari 360 in the office next door...
(Also a porsche Boxster, Lotus Elise and a Jaguar XK8)

Don't see any McLarens though!!

PS Also we had a Toyota Prius in our car park today... one of the ones with the Hybrid engine!
 
actually there is a clip on this site...its a ferrari 360 modena VS some porsche i belive GT2 and the porsche won, so u cant say ferraris are faster
