I read it too. I'd still take the F40, as it's the only one you can actually take shopping.
I'd be too scared to take my F40 shopping! :)

Pepole who own F40's generally send someone else shopping.

Porsches are stupid, at least the new ones.

I take that into offense. My dads 1972 Porsche 911S 2.8 can almost out run a GT2 in a quater mile. Just 1.1 seconds off.

Most older porsches are faster than the new ones. The older ones didn't have as much limits as they do today. I can obviously tell your not to bright either. Taking a car thats tuned don't mean its faster.

Damn ricers, leave if your gonna talk bad about porsche's.

Old Porsches are formidable, 70's had a few gems. Namely the 2.7RS and 3.0RS among others, never knew that Porsche made 2.8L engines though.

As for recent Porsches sucking; i doub't it very much. They DID win GT class at LeMans this year. I don't think the Porsche 911's have ever done badly in competition. Motor magazine still calls the 911 Turbo "Possibly the worlds best value supercar". Car Magazine named the 911 Turbo the #1 Greatest Car. Wheels sais "arguable the worlds greatest car".

The only thing i can see that sucks about them is the 996 styling (maybe suck is a strong word for it). I loved the looks of the 993's, especialy the Turbo. The 930's were beatiful too, especialy with the monster rear wheel arches.

Then again im only referring to the 911's it seems, im not a huge fan of most of the other Porsches.

The 2.8L's where in the 911S's and the Carrera RS's in 1971 to 1974.

No such thing. A Ruf is a Ruf, not a Porsche.

I know, I know. But look at it this way, if there were no Porsches, there were no RUFs. On top of that, a RUF car has a Porsche body so it looks like a Porsche so it is a Porsche. Ok, the law says it isn't but **** the law.

But look at it this way, if there were no Porsches, there were no RUFs.

How'd you work that one out? Perhaps they would take BMW or Audi bodies instead? Or maybe a manufacturer from a totally different country.

so it looks like a Porsche so it is a Porsche.

so If I put a 1 ltr engine under a Ferrari 360 Modena and put cosworth suspension on it and such then it would still be a Ferrari 360 Modena because it looks like one? strange logic.

Maybe I have put this wrong. Don't get me wrong, I think Porsches are cool but the new models are pretty lame, especially the Boxter and 996. Ok, the GT2 and GT3 are ok, but I still think they're ugly (especailly those headlamps).

The 993 is ok and the 964 and previous models are even nicer. I think the're getting soft.

Hope you understand, I didn't mean any disrespect :)

In my opinion the boxter was a big mistake. No doubt it has given a big financial boost to porsche but it has probably taken away some of the exclusivity (sp?) of owning a porsche.

Some of the headlamps have been ugly, but they forever change them.
How can you say they are getting soft when they make a supercar is great as the Carrera GT? It might not have had the same hype as the Enzo, but it cannot be ignored.

The way you put it was like you hated porsche. But the new 997 is gonna look like the 993's just newer and up-to-date. But still, I think 996's are beautiful peices of art. Porsches are good cars, people who hate them are the American Muscle heads who think Mustangs are the most dominate. And I hate people like that.

You don't believe that yourself do you? Come on, most of these companies started modifying cars of certain brand because they love the cars of that brand but they feel they can make it even better. The philosophy most of the isn't "Oh, I desperatly need to modify a car. Let's start with this Porsche overhere". Come on!!!

RUF starts with a Porsche, so it is a Porsche. If I went to a plastic surgeon and asked him to completely rebuilt my face and after that get a livertransplantation and brain surgery my name is Bram (it was before), isn't it.
If you had a Porsche and you would tune the engine and give it a new suspension it would still be a Porsche and not a "ExigeExcel"

So **** off

Now that is just not a way to treat a respected member around here. . . Why do people think that telling someone to fark off on the internet is going to get them anywhere. . . I don't know you dude, but this is an excellent debate with some good points coming from both sides. . . Don't ruin it with a fark off. . .

They don't start with a Porsche, they use a Porsche body. Do you think when a manufacturer is making new car they build a body and work they car around that? Ruf do not tune Porsches, they build their own cars and then put a Porsche body on it. So if you were to have your face sliced off and a new one transplanted on, your still Bram (you were before), you don't become the person the face came off, hence Ruf's don't become Porsches because they put a Porsche body on at the end. And don't tell anyone else to **** off.

I'm gonna admit to being on the losing side of this argument, not through choice but simply through ignorance, because I never think of modified cars as belonging to another marque. The Mine's Lancer is just a Mitsubishi Lancer to me, I can appreciate the Porsche/Ruf difference a bit more but in all honesty I really don't care.

The Boxter is definitely a good car (it has won Motor Magazines Performance Car of the Year many times, more than 3 if i remember correctly, a huge feat considering how young the Boxter is), but i agree that it is damaging for Porsche's image and they are driven MAINLY by wanker yuppies.

The headlamps have been partly remedied by the newer 996s. Which are slightly different from the old 996s and Boxters. The main problem is the frontal area looks like a ducks beak. This isn't bad on the Turbo and GT2 isnce they have larger front bumper that extend to the ground giving it a more aggressive look.

Getting soft(er) is something i will partly agree to. The older Porsches, most notably any 964 and especialy 930's where beasts with huge power that needed immense concentration to drive. These days they are much simpler, some with 4WD, traction control and such. They have also been extending buisness to other markets with the Carerra GT, Boxter and *shudder* Cayenne.

The 993 if you ask me was the peak of 911 design though. Very attractive cars, and alot smaller than you would think.

Let us have the 1001HP Veyron, and let us buy stage 4 turbo kit for it, making it the new escudo.

And what about the latest 911 then? Pretty perfect design for a modern porsche!

What do i think? The 997 is completely beautiful. The oval headlights are back which is a good thing, and they have given the interiors an upgrade. I havent seen any pics of a 997 Turbo or GT2 yet, but i assume they will be wider and sexier much as they have always been compared to the regular Carerra bodied cars. The cars arse looks nice too. The whole car has the simplicity that made the 993 soo lovely.

I hope your joking.
Besides the Veyron is IMO a badly designed car, too much power, not enough downforce, too much weight. Maybe beautiful, but an odd car nevertheless.

If VW ever manage to release the Veyron it will still never be top dog - it will always be little more than a curiosity. It may have a massive BHP figure and supossed top speed. But it doesn't make it a great car. Its just another, more extreme case of 'a potentially great concept' been destroyed by gearing it to the american market, like the F50, Carrera GT, Merc SLR - Open top roofs and/or Liberace styling.

If Porsche are in GT4 (which i doubt unfortunatly) which models should be in?

I think the most important are:

550 spider

356 Carrera (Pan-America)

2.7 RS Carrera

3.0 Carrera RS (racing model)

917 (Gulf LeMans racer)

911 Turbo (930)

956/962 Group C

959 (+959 paris-dakar and 961 LeMans version)

911 Carrera 4 (964)

911 GT3 (996)

Great list, covered alot of very substantial cars, i agree with you wholeheartedly. But you missed a few that i think should be in.

935 : Racing 930

911SC : Not to picky about which one.

928 S4 or GTS : It's odd but it won Car of the Year some time in the 80's, and it also appeared in Scarface :)

944 Turbo : Fast and cheap, i've seen these beat many a more expensive porsche around the track, too bad they are sinfully ugly.

993 TurboS/GT2 : The original GT2 or what i think is the best looking 911 of them all.

Last but not least, the 917/30 i think it was, twing turbo flat 12 i do believe it was a Can-Am racer and got banned.

Thats all i can think of now. :)

Is no one wanting the Carrera GT to be included?

5.7 V10.
604 bhp.
0-100 in 6.9 secs.
Top Speed: 205mph.

Yep, I would love that to be in.

I'm talking land-mark ground breaking models, not Californian vanity cars!

Opps forgot some of those front engined porsches!!!

924 Carrera GT(R)*

944 Turbo or S2

968 ClubSport

928 (any - they are all good)

993 TurboS/GT2 : The original GT2 or what i think is the best looking 911 of them all. - yes this one too!

...how could i forget the 935!!!! - it would have to be either the works 'Martini' or Kremer 'Vailant' versions.
