I've already said Merry Christmas once, but I just thought I'd share this unexplained seasonal magic I encountered while driving around Imola :)

Decided to make indycar a little more interesting last night, took the Vintage Watson Roadster around Indianapolis in the snow

The AI are terribly slow in the snow even at 120/100 until the driving line appears then they whizz past, so then I just added a little blizzard to slow them down again :)

It was a wreck fest, roughly out of 32 cars only 15 finished, great fun.

Edit: different scenario.

Found a issue regarding wet weather with this car/track that actually works in our favour this time.

I thought it was odd when the AI weren't pitting for rain tyre's as the thunderstorm rolled in, so on the next go I decided to stay out on dry tyre's to see what was going on, as it turns out they have the same grip in the wet as wet tyre's so no need to pit :)

I rarely run Indy cars but I did last night and I saw something that I had not noticed before. I ran the Chevy Road Car and at the end of the race when the final standings were shown, it was all American flags. Has it always been that Chevys only run with other Chevys and Hondas only run with other Hondas? There is never a mixed field with both manufacturers?

The reason I noticed it this time was I was battling with the #98 car which has always been an Andretti Honda has it not? And I also thought that Scott Dixon's #9 car was in the field which is also a Honda.

Aren't the flags for the country of citizenship of the driver?

I'm not sure what options you would have on the standard PS4 (I'm on the 1X) but if you can, run enhanced frame rate.
Use 1080p or drop to 720p if you want.
Turn off all graphic options (vignette, bloom, dirt, rain drops, crepuscular rays, heat haze, sun rays & post processing filter.
Don't use dynamic time of day.
Don't use dynamic weather.
Use cockpit cam (static).
Not helmet cam (due to head movement).
Don't race at night.
Use static FOV not dynamic.
This may sound odd but use overcast (less shadows) or light fog (less draw distance) instead of sunshine.

And at a guess, use the default date per track as this might (hence the word might) run a tad better than changing date due to sun positioning & track temperature & other things like that as this setting might have been pre baked.

I'm possibly 100% wrong on this 1 but it's a theory & it might help, no harm in trying.

I've also probably gone a bit overboard :)

There are no options to enhance anything on a standard PS4/Slim. I also know setting the system to 720p won't do anything for PCARS2, the game just downscales its 1080p output to 720p if you do that.

That's why I said at the start "not sure what options you have on the standard PS4, but if you can"

Regarding resolution, yeh, you're right it won't do anything.

What was the outcome, did you buy it?

Thinking about it but I give it some more thought and read up further.

edit:

After reading up on the one year after thread, seeing multiple videos and seeing that lovely 365GTB again I decided to jump in with the deluxe version (which is on promo at the PSN atm).

I think it has been a very wise choice to wait so long and PCARS2 seems to be a very solid package after more than a year. This is purely from on SP-point of view.

So I went into pcars2 for the first time. Since the game is still downloading I only got access to the McLaren 570 at Long Beach. The drive is god damn terrible, even with changes to ffb. There is simply no proper feedback and even with deadzone set to zero I still have the impression there is one. I'll first let it download completely but first impressions don't make me that enthusiastic :(

What you using to control the car, controller or wheel? That race is hard anyway, just threw's you in, once you do that, set up what ever, what too.

First few races are fairly hard, but you will soon start enjoying, with all live track settings. :)

I use a T150 but I'll go back in now and fiddle some more. Will report back.

Edit: after changing some settings the feel is a lot and a lot better. I've toned down brake and accel sensitivity, set dead zone to zero and now I can beautifully catch the car and hold slide if I need to. Must say the 570 is a handful as a first tryout and the cold tires don't help. Once warmed up it becomes more stable and you feel a bit more confident.

Made sure I saved all those precious settings but the one thing I don't understand is my it isn't setup correctly by default? The default settings just feel weird.

I'll let my download finish over the coming days and then I'll jump in more seriously.

I am relieved though that initial impression moved up quite a few notches since I got the wheel dialed in 👍

The default McLaren settings were arrived at after input from McLaren's Test Driver.

I'm not sure why settings would feel weird, but I find it takes me quite a long time to adjust to the feel of each car in the game. I suggest not playing the game until it has fully updated and start with a low power front engine rear drive car. In my view the best cars to start with are the Ginetta Junior followed by the Ginetta GT5 (a higher powered Junior) or if you want to start with vintage cars - the Ford Escort RS 1600 (Racing or Road) followed by the BMW 2002 SW. These cars react in a way which will give you time to understand the physics of the game.

I meant the feedback through the wheel not the car itself ;) Really felt numb and weird without changing the T150 settings.

I played PC1 so I am understand a bit how the game works. My journey will start with the 365 GTB and I tend to stick with that one for a while for the racing. Hotlapping will try different ones. I understand as well it takes time to get used to a car, hell that is why I struggle regularly as well in AC's special events

I got a question about the AI driver that takes over when you swap seats with them. So im in the endurance series and i do plan on doing the 24 hours of lemans (like the actual 24 hours) and i just wanna know that if the AI will be smart enough to pit when fuel starts to get really low or if it starts to rain will they come in and throw on wet tires (vice versa if it starts to dry up after having rain tires on will they come in and throw on slicks?) I also will like to know what's the pace of the AI when you swap seats with them. If im doing pretty good and running 3rd or better for example i hope they can keep that pace up while im away because i would be pretty annoyed if they start lose positions while they in the driver seat then I gotta make that back up when i get back in the car.

I've done a lot of offline races with A.I. co driver. They usually pit on their own just make sure pit strategy is set up correctly. However there are times on long tracks (Le Sarthe, Nordschleife) where they'll miss their window to pit for fuel because the track is so long so they'll screw you over that way. Also they eat through tires a lot faster than you so I tend to babysit their stints anyway, so they don't mess up my race strategy. I make them go a lap or two longer on worn tires by setting pit strategy to Tires-None, then give them tires when I'm ready for them to pit. For when it starts raining, if you have pit strategy set to 'recommended' he'll pit for wets when the track gets wet enough. If you force him to drive on slicks when track calls for wets he'll keep pitting until he gets the tires he wants.

Their pace is on par with other A.I., he's not going to be fast as you

Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it:cheers: It kinda makes me nervous about their strategy when it comes to the big tracks because i plan on doing this with only with the 24 hours of lemans (de la sarthe) and you mentioned they miss their window. It's gonna be hard for me to keep a eye on the AI when night time (in real life) approaches because i gotta get some sleep eventually lol. So while im asleep i hope the AI doesn't screw up with that. Maybe if i get up in the middle of the night I'll check on the AI. Maybe I'll call him in to pit depending on what's going on at point of the race.

Hello, I am considering buying PC2 on xbox, but I have a question: is there any help built in the game to show you the breaking points?
The help exists in GT, Forza and F1 games, but I'm not sure for PC2.

I don't have enought gaming time to learn each corner on every track and car combination.

Thank you,

Yes there's a driving line that you can switch to all the time, just cornering, or completely off which helps with tracks you don't know. It gives you a decent idea of corner speeds and braking points.

I am heavily confused:
  1. Went to community
  2. Chose Time Trial
  3. Ran couple of laps with car
  4. See my time on hud
  5. Quit the session
Now, how do I save my replay? Why does the replay not show the complete lap?

Next to that if I return to main menu and go back into community, time trial , I am unable to see my time I've driven, my friends don't show, can't select category. How does this work? What am I missing? I am lost

BTW this is on PS4
