Let me ask the PCars masses a question.

I have played GT1, GT2, GT5 and now GT6. I have a reliable (and cheap) DFGT wheel and to be honest have never really had any major beefs about how the GT series plays.

I got a PS4 for the family for Xmas and now have all our major titles duplicated on the PS4 from the PS3. The only reason I even turn the PS3 on anymore is to run our online series once a week in GT6.

I am contemplating selling the PS3 and all games/accy to fund a new wheel and PCars purchase.

But I am mainly interested in online play with our league and every time I research Pcars I see a lot of posts regarding bugs with this or that. I want to make the switch but I don't want to play a broken game (especially in comparison to a fairly unbroken game like GT6). I plan to play PCars and get GT7 when it comes out just to have some variety and revisit the game that started it all for me.

So is this game broken or will I be a happy camper?

Thanks in advance gang.

Hard to say how you'll feel about PCars online. Yes there are some bugs & at the moment the bugs make it impossible to rely on having issue free pitstops. Thankfully the devs are aware of the issues and working on patching the bugs. SMS have released two patches on PS4 so far and soon to release another. I have raced in an online series & had quite a few races online, I would say that I'm more a happy camper than disappointed one. YMMV

My wheel and seat arrived today so I'm finally playing PCARS! :D

Played one race with the Z4 in Spa, the intricate details make the game feel so good! Running over the bumps losing traction, car jittering after a crash etc. The graphics don't look as good as GT6, however. And that mini bump that I used to love coming out of the double right-hander isn't there anymore :(

Anyways, I feel I need to adjust a handful of things now. And why is career locked, or how do I unlock it?

As long as there appears to be progress as far as updates are concerned, then I am all for giving it a go. I relish giving a new title a shot but I really don't want to play a half assed game where each night I try to race ends in frustration.

Gave up on the Xbone due to the stuttering issue. Pulled my controller out of the console and plugged it into the PC. I'm only on the second kart race and the improved graphics are putting a big smile on my face. I'm truly sorry for the master race smugness.

There is a large 2.0 Patch rolling out soon. If the game's current state is not comforting, I suggest you wait to read/hear feedback (post 2.0) before purchasing pCARS.

JoeW,
I would like to answer your question with some honest to goodness truth.
I have been very excited about PCARS because I love racing, I am not a pro, I just love racing and get lots of pleasure from it, with that being said I have to be totally truthful when it comes to PCARS.

This is a game that has lots of potential because when you get things working the racing can feel really good, and of course the graphics are really nice and on high end PC’s it’s actually difficult to tell PCARS from a real race on a Hi Def TV and that can only add to the good times.

Now for the not so good and downright BAD.
Project CARS In My Opinion Is Very Broken and can make playing it a very frustrating undertaking, Just when you are really starting to have fun and things seem good….BAM, you run into one the Many Bugs.

I am not just saying this to give PCARS a bad name because I have praised SMS when they had done great things, Like the Ghosting/Blurring issues (Even though a lot of people claimed it didn’t exist) that were on PS4 but not XBONE. SMS put out a fix very quickly and for that they deserve lots of credit which I immediately gave. When they put out the Icons Car Pack, I again praised them.

Now to the issues.
From day one I have run into all kinds of strange bugs and I mean things that I would not expect to see even in Beta Software (Yes, Some are that Bad)

jittery/jerky replays have been there since day one and continue to exist, I really expected that to be high on the list of things to fix (It wasn’t in the 1.4 patch and it’s not mentioned in the 2.0 patch).

Wheel setup can be a pain, they have improved the defaults but if you didn’t do research you could easily mistake this game for feeling really bad.

Day one, I made the mistake of going into the button assignment screen, after attempting to assign some familiar buttons, I tried to exit the menu and received the following message:
"Not all required controls are assigned” and this game would not let me out, lucky for me someone had a workaround on the internet.

Release week with PCARS, Ran into this bug: Free Practice at SPA

Tonight (6/29/15) Ran into this bug: Laguna Seca

PCARS Running, Goes into Rest mode and all Force Feedback lost, couldn’t recover without doing a reset, powering off and on didn’t work.

Went into Race Weekend, Got placed first on the Grid, and again No Force Feedback, talk about frustration.

I use Surround Sound Headphones and noticed that there were voices coming from the speaker in the DS4, I could just barely here it due to having on sealed headphones. No In Game setting to fix this. There is a funky kind of workaround but damn this is annoying.

Sadly, I have run into other things too numerous to mention, so there is lots of work to be done and I really hope SMS does get to some of the ones that kill the enjoyment of PCARS.

I know there are those who claim there is not a single bug in the game, to them, I just don’t know what to say, I hope this helps you as I am in deeper than I should be a the moment.

For me as a WMD member this is most annoying aspect.
I've encountered a few bugs 1 or 2 on my amd PC. But you guys on console have so many issues with the game. It seems also like random luck some guys on consoles have very few issues while overs are suffering badly.

@JoeW If your not sure wether to buy it not. Wait a while to let the price come down or pre owned copies become available. There's no harm I'm waiting, heck you guys on console are fairly lucky with the fact that most games workout of box.

So I would wait. SMS may even further down the line may release a GOTY type edition with some of the dlc included.

I'm on PS4 and haven't encountered any serious issues, other than the ones that happen across all platforms (like AI rain pace). Pretty much all the issues I've encountered are just somewhat annoying. It probably depends on what modes you spend most of your time playing.
I have had to stall my career mode for the past 2-3 weeks because of the hot tires out of the pits bug. But other than that, I've encountered hardly any bugs.

I'm not at the part of my career where I really have to pit yet. I got into LMP1 in my 3rd season right after Superkarts by mistake, so I just skipped every race without playing them. But I've read that there is a work around for that bug. Something to do with setting the pit settings a certain way.

Project Cars is at a 20% discount for Playstation Plus members until 6 July on the NTSC Playstation Store!

Oh man this is very tempting, not sure I want it digitally though, how much is the total size with patches gents?

20.16 GB. Missed that sale by a couple days lol. I'd grab it if I were you. Sound is awesome. Physics is good; I use DS4. Not planning on getting a rig.

I;m very broke after I bought the T300 but very tempted by this, it would take a week to download though

Took me less than 5 hours in restmode on 12 Mbps connection. That's about 1 MB/s. It downloads faster in restmode. Saves power as well; naturally.

Ordered this today...

And I'm excited. But don't really have anyone to share it with, so you catch it.

Well, I am more than a little perturbed. With no one but myself, I suppose. I assumed PC compatibility.
The Thrustmaster website says PC compatibility.
xExoOEI.png

But it isn't PC compatible at all. It isn't PS3, PS4 or XB1 compatible either. It is only compatible with the wheel. Only. Go ahead and rail on me for not researching every single detail, but to me saying it is compatible with those platforms should mean it is compatible with those platforms.

The options are to return it or get the Bodnar Cable and Bodinhausen T500 Adapater for $70.

That puts the all in price over $220, which is $40 more than I would spend on Fanatec CSR Elite Pedals. And only $100 less than I would spend on the Clubsport V3.

Did you have a secretly upgraded GT6 version ?
You can't even compare GT6 graphics to PCars's...and I am on PS4...

That was after racing in Spa. The track was way less precise (kerbs, fans etc) and the cockpit cam wasn't great tbh. Better graphics in every other department though. Maybe it was because I was playing Black Flag before PCARS, which had amazing graphics!

Less precise compared to what ?
I find Spa pretty precise, having lapped there on motorcycles and cars.
The only thing that bothers me is the dissappearing 'fishnet' on the earth wall after Bruxelles. Guys on PC can get riid of it, but on console we don't have that possibility.

Were you planning on using without a wheel or what?
