My point is that you should not have to be driving a ridiculously fast car to be having fun. Do you think that an F1 driver doing Top Gear's sensibly priced car challenge would be bored? Absolutely not.
I think it's sad, because I think it is attitudes like yours that hold these games back to some degree. Personally, I would much prefer that sim driving/racing games extend from our realities rather than adopting a complete removal. Each person's reality is different of course (I have barely driven a car in anger myself), but surely the vast majority of purchasers are nowhere near being race drivers. It just seems very immature to think that only living out some fantasy of driving a 1000 bhp beast can give gratification. Developers do try to give us what we ask for, and in my opinion we as a collective are asking for the wrong things.
In a related topic, I must say that I see a lot of oddly flawed elitism around these forums. People saying things like "Am I the only one who cares about physics? I love physics, physics, physics!!! Oh yeah, and a really loud broom broom sound from the engine. But most importantly, I want to be able decorate my car with special paints, and diamonds". I am all for elitism, just do it right.
Well at least we agree on something as I think attitudes like yours hold back game development.
Having to put in a driver test (F1 2012 shambles) or driving licence (GT5 shambles) ruins a game for me considering that those users, less than 12 months ago already complete those licences in F1 2011.
If you look at the difference between my argument and yours it's clear!
You say my attitude holds back games, really? A little presumptuous don't you think?
You say that I am wrong, and that my views are incorrect because an F1 driver has fun "in a real car" on "a real track" at "top gear" come one man...
That's real life, it's not only completely different it's insanely different

I don't have fun playing flying simulators but I'm sure as **** in real life it would be awesome!
My view however, was to allow an "option" for those like me who don't want or need another effin rookie year, or another f1 2012 driver test, or a GT5 licence test... Etc... I have about 16 rookie/careers on my Xbox and ps3 and I rinse and repeats this almost yearly. By now they should just ask where "you want" to start. The funny thing is, some of my games have barely been touched due to professing faster/further on 1 than the others and therefore no longer wanting to go back to grinding AGAIN.. This is where you missed the point! Every game, every year as a grind.. It's not nesecary.
Your F1 driver argument means that... F1 drivers would love to be forced back down to Formula 3 YEARLY to resist their licence, and work there way back up into formula 1 through al, the ******** they just escaped from, nd they would enjoy it...
You think they would enjoy that? Not a chance!
Imagine if all those FIFA byers buy FIFA 2014 only to find out they have to sit a season as a made up foot ball team in division 3... Grind up to division 2 etc.. After months of doing this, they unlock MANU but are Chelsea fans and have to keep grinding more to unlock tht team... After months of unlocking and grinding and stressing, and frustration... You think they will want to do that in 3 months time again when FIFA 2015 comes out ... Come on man, you missed the point!
I currently own 3 cars, plus 7 RC cars...
We have out town/daily car FocusST, my classic Pride and joy P1 and our new Z4 ...
If I want to drive a slow car, I will drive them! IRL! Or whip out an RC car.. Now That's enjoyable
Driving a old nissan sunny at 35mph in a GAME is not fun, not in a game like cars which is a RACING game!
Yes, it may be fun IRL on a top gear track! But that's real life dude! In a living room is embarrassing!
You have missed my point so badly that this has turned into a completely different conversation.
It's hard for games to be fun for a single player to drive a slow car (with not much sense of speed, no wind, no danger, no forces, no ai only some cones etc) especially if you already just sat that licence a few months ago... This was my point!
It's clear that people insisting on this stuff to be added to games hold games back, look at code masters, they stated they removed the full practice and qually sessions from F1 2012 because they had to add a "driver test" session.
Which I'm guessing no one here used .... Anyone?
And... If anyone did use it... How many times did they use it... I'm guessing ...1
They also removed the Ability to be your favourite driver and do a full season career as tht driver
That game got slated in almost every respect for so many bad decisions. It looked great, but it was a POS as they removed the 1 thing we F1 fans loved! full practice and qually sessions and Ability to be any driver as a full season career.
A "free play" section should be added to all games as an option, which has all cars, all tracks, random races, club races, online races, group races etc available from the outset..
A game/simulation should be for everyone, Not just those that see it a particular way.
I play games to have fun, fun to me is racing ai and friends around hot tracks in Insane cars that we don't have IRL. High speed, good fun, clean racing and hot lapping etc too... Not driving around on my own in between cones in a Nissan micro at 12/25 mph?
