To clarify, there is intent to "have a system that allows players to gain access to all content immediately without breaking the progression for those that wish to unlock it manually".

👍
That is only possible with microtransactions, hopefully they plan this right.

Absolutely gorgeous game!!!

Has anyone any benchmarks or threads they could link on how this game fares with TITAN? Most reviews seldom cover racing games.

I know it is still in development but curious as have one on order to replace my XFX 7970 with a plan for the cockpit to run eventually via triple 1080p projection.

It's not only possible with microtransactions, it's just that is how companies like EA have done it in the past. There is no reason that could not be achieved for free in any number of ways, ie a simple button in the menu.

There is one thread about a guy having a titan etc.. But at this point it's too early to say how good it'll run all maxed out. Optimizing will make a huge difference here as well I'm sure.

Here's old q&a (25-04-2012):

Great find!
This is good news, thanks for sharing ... 👍

Absolutely, a simple switch or mode will work fine. Micro transactions are not the "only" for this to work... If PCars even try micro transactions I'll not be happy.

I will however, support paid DLC if it's good.. Not forza style though where they basically tear the arse out of it 👎

The community as a whole decided quite some time ago whether pCARS would be a "Free" game with micro-transactions or a standard, full retail game with optional DLC later. As you can guess the community voted for the latter so there will not be any microtransactions.

Any DLC is likely to be car and track models they simply didn't have time to get done before the game releases, whenever that may be. Rally DLC was also touted at one point but I think that idea was decided against, opting for a full rally game in the future. Don't take my word on that though because I'm not 100% sure.

Nothing is 'simple' in Game Development... :P

I know there was some kind of Alfa Romeo game for PS2 that had heart monitor type of thing. You were forced to drive conservatively or risk fainting or something along those lines. It was implemented terribly, and I hated it. That's the only time I remember "fear" being forced upon you in a game. I dislike it generally, as the Alfa game forced you to drive like an old lady until you leveled up, but you couldn't level up because you couldn't win because you were driving like an old lady.

Synthetic fear sucks, actual fear is good, like in the first Juiced game, you had to fork over your cash to repair your car every time you crashed. I was afraid I'd ruin my car, then not have enough money to buy upgrades, then be caught in the beginning stages because money was not easy to come by. (If it was, I played the game totally wrong!) In all honesty though, having to pay for your actions like that is kind of a buzz-kill when all I want to do is have fun with the game.

Wasn't an alfa game, Can't remember the name.but I think I remember the game you are mentioning.

If I remember correctly, It was GT Revolution and S.C.A.R. (Squadra Corsa Alfa Romeo). Both were made by Milestone (or was it blackbean?)

I want some more Japanese and for the American folk some more muscle (American cars) in our games.
Though I am not into American cars, in fact I hate them because they don't suite my driving style at all. I am just not the only one playing the game and I think we all deserve an equal amount of pleasure in the game.

I really wish to see some Subaru, Toyota and Nissan in this lovely game. They have proven themselves well during racing history just like the European cars we have now. So I think they deserve a spot.
Also the American cars have their own legacy as well. With some cars having heavy cult statuses for sure.

What races are done in America outside of Indy/Champ car and NASCAR? Especially those that feature (relatives to) road cars.

That is what I thought too, I don't know how their career structure works but they can choose to have an option with every discipline available at the beginning or maybe some sort of "Time Savers pack" which could do the exact same thing.

Oh wait a minuted I think you are right,it just might be S.C.A.R wow my memory is crap.

Question gents but how many cars will there be on track on console versions?

Some of my buddies are fearing that P. Cars will be NFS: Shift 3 in terms of physics. How do they feel to you (to anyone testing the game)?

It's understandable tht some enjoy the grind, my issue is time. I'm a married man, 2 kids, full time job etc I don't have time to grind, nor do I want to, as it feels like "work" or effort that I don't wish to endure as I paid 50 to have fun. IMO its like going to a theme park and being told you have to do a few hours graft before you can get on the ride.

My point is that you should not have to be driving a ridiculously fast car to be having fun. Do you think that an F1 driver doing Top Gear's sensibly priced car challenge would be bored? Absolutely not.

I think it's sad, because I think it is attitudes like yours that hold these games back to some degree. Personally, I would much prefer that sim driving/racing games extend from our realities rather than adopting a complete removal. Each person's reality is different of course (I have barely driven a car in anger myself), but surely the vast majority of purchasers are nowhere near being race drivers. It just seems very immature to think that only living out some fantasy of driving a 1000 bhp beast can give gratification. Developers do try to give us what we ask for, and in my opinion we as a collective are asking for the wrong things.

In a related topic, I must say that I see a lot of oddly flawed elitism around these forums. People saying things like "Am I the only one who cares about physics? I love physics, physics, physics!!! Oh yeah, and a really loud broom broom sound from the engine. But most importantly, I want to be able decorate my car with special paints, and diamonds". I am all for elitism, just do it right.

They feel nothing like Shift, i have been testing builds since day one (build 67 i think) and even then it was quite different to shift, now it's completely, absolutely, positively NOT like Shift. Physics, graphics, sound, tracks are a galaxy away from Shift now.

Anytime you take the letters E and A off a game box, the game in question is automatically improved.

Well at least we agree on something as I think attitudes like yours hold back game development.

Having to put in a driver test (F1 2012 shambles) or driving licence (GT5 shambles) ruins a game for me considering that those users, less than 12 months ago already complete those licences in F1 2011.

If you look at the difference between my argument and yours it's clear!

You say my attitude holds back games, really? A little presumptuous don't you think?

You say that I am wrong, and that my views are incorrect because an F1 driver has fun "in a real car" on "a real track" at "top gear" come one man...

That's real life, it's not only completely different it's insanely different :dunce: I don't have fun playing flying simulators but I'm sure as **** in real life it would be awesome!

My view however, was to allow an "option" for those like me who don't want or need another effin rookie year, or another f1 2012 driver test, or a GT5 licence test... Etc... I have about 16 rookie/careers on my Xbox and ps3 and I rinse and repeats this almost yearly. By now they should just ask where "you want" to start. The funny thing is, some of my games have barely been touched due to professing faster/further on 1 than the others and therefore no longer wanting to go back to grinding AGAIN.. This is where you missed the point! Every game, every year as a grind.. It's not nesecary.

Your F1 driver argument means that... F1 drivers would love to be forced back down to Formula 3 YEARLY to resist their licence, and work there way back up into formula 1 through al, the ******** they just escaped from, nd they would enjoy it...

You think they would enjoy that? Not a chance!

Imagine if all those FIFA byers buy FIFA 2014 only to find out they have to sit a season as a made up foot ball team in division 3... Grind up to division 2 etc.. After months of doing this, they unlock MANU but are Chelsea fans and have to keep grinding more to unlock tht team... After months of unlocking and grinding and stressing, and frustration... You think they will want to do that in 3 months time again when FIFA 2015 comes out ... Come on man, you missed the point!

I currently own 3 cars, plus 7 RC cars...
We have out town/daily car FocusST, my classic Pride and joy P1 and our new Z4 ...
If I want to drive a slow car, I will drive them! IRL! Or whip out an RC car.. Now That's enjoyable :)

Driving a old nissan sunny at 35mph in a GAME is not fun, not in a game like cars which is a RACING game!
Yes, it may be fun IRL on a top gear track! But that's real life dude! In a living room is embarrassing!

You have missed my point so badly that this has turned into a completely different conversation.

It's hard for games to be fun for a single player to drive a slow car (with not much sense of speed, no wind, no danger, no forces, no ai only some cones etc) especially if you already just sat that licence a few months ago... This was my point!

It's clear that people insisting on this stuff to be added to games hold games back, look at code masters, they stated they removed the full practice and qually sessions from F1 2012 because they had to add a "driver test" session.
Which I'm guessing no one here used .... Anyone?
And... If anyone did use it... How many times did they use it... I'm guessing ...1
They also removed the Ability to be your favourite driver and do a full season career as tht driver :dunce:

That game got slated in almost every respect for so many bad decisions. It looked great, but it was a POS as they removed the 1 thing we F1 fans loved! full practice and qually sessions and Ability to be any driver as a full season career.

A "free play" section should be added to all games as an option, which has all cars, all tracks, random races, club races, online races, group races etc available from the outset..

A game/simulation should be for everyone, Not just those that see it a particular way.

I play games to have fun, fun to me is racing ai and friends around hot tracks in Insane cars that we don't have IRL. High speed, good fun, clean racing and hot lapping etc too... Not driving around on my own in between cones in a Nissan micro at 12/25 mph?

It also means you don't have to use Origin. ;)

I'd argue the graphics still retain a certain shift look simply because it's the same graphics engine but it's obviously much improved and without all the fake carnival crap on tracks.

SpandxRacer I think LemansAid was talking more about racing lower HP cars than license tests, which can be a lot of fun in my opinion if you find a good group to race with, but I do agree with you on that subject. Why should you have to earn your license again if you already did it in the previous game? Why not use your old save file to bypass this process.

Yea, I agree that racing in most cars is fine, And fun.
My only concern was "the grind" I said I hated the grind to get cash for the faster cars and having to do licences etc.

Add em' But make it optional at least 👍

I don't believe that one needs to complete license tests to advance in GT5, if I am not mistaken?

If a game is done well, any vehicle on a suitable track should be fun. There are plenty of broom broom games pandering to juvenile tastes, I thought we were talking serious sim racing here. There are some very promising "new era" sims coming our way, pcars being one of them. I would hate to think that they would be tailored in any way towards ten year old boys gazing longingly at a Ferrari poster.

Give me Bioshock over Quake, give me "boring" old fart cars over a childish delusion of grandeur.

Amazingly, I am not actually trying to be offensive. It just comes so naturally.

I just don't want it to always be the case that the one with the loudest voice is the only one heard.

Not trying to bully, and I apologise if it seems that way. Pcars... woo!
