That is actually the same price as the current model, just with more stuff with it. No increases to see here.

One more thing to note, the 500GB model in the US will have AC3 packed with it for a limited time.

500GB is definitely getting the AC3 bundle for US.

I don't get console redesigns, what's the purpose? It's lighter? Oh good that will save some space when I take it to work with me. :P

Well those lines(the top portion with the sliding cover) do remind me of the fat PS2's lines across the console. Plus it also retains that oval shape from the PS3(And the piano gloss look on the curved surfaces from the fat PS3). Personally, I like the contrast between the sleek look and the lines.

If the console came with backwards compatibility then I'd take a second look and think if it's worth getting as I have a collection of PS1 and PS2 games that I would still want a console to have around for.

Funnily enough, i do that.

Interesting that the US gets the 250gb instead of the 12gb, and europe doesn't get the 12gb...

Redesign console is not for you. It's for the company who makes it. It was already explained why sony make new ps3. To cut costs and sell new product and make money. They still aim to new clients who never had ps3 or who want to replace their old fat ps3. Simple. You do have ps3, don't need new one. Simple 👍 Life goes on. I'm going back to my beer and good comedy :)

New production processes make the internals of a console smaller and use less power than their bigger counterparts. When I travel, I like to take a PS3 with me, however, I can't just pack it on a carry on and call it a day.

This smaller PS3 will do the job nicely for my needs.

I like how the Youtube comment section for that vid is infested with haters/fanboys.

The lack of price drop seems confusing to me though, but it's probably just Sony needing money when it can get it.

Not sure if I like the disc loading procedure now.

At least tweezers won't be necessary if a disc gets stuck in there.

Hopfully the slim goes on sale then or by Chistmas in hopes of making sales profit Sony puts the SS model on sale because by then my Fat will have 5 years of hard work on it.

IGN unboxing

Thank you for finding and posting this vid. It shows me what i wanted to see. The sliding lid rather open like it was in psONE and slim psTWO. Something different 👍

That's not it. The reason for it is because they are adding games in the US territory(for the 250GB model, they are adding Uncharted 3 and Dust 514, and for the 500GB it's Assassin's Creed 3). I reason that other regions are doing the same.

Not true. Those models are actually flip-lids, not sliders like the PS3, even though everything is mechanical. The only past model that is actually close to what the ss PS3 is is actually the FAT PS2.

Some while ago when sony announced their new ps3 I've read that mechanical engine that helps DVD slide inside console is going to e replaced by cheap opening lid like both psONE and psONEslim + ps2 slim had.

Now i know it might be mistaken understand by someone or sony was wrongly understander or sony change their mind, keep in secret and now we now :)

Sliding open lid is different than opening lid like in psnONE and it's cool to 👍

It might be cheap, true, but not flip.

I feel like an old man with my 40GB Fatty. Got it in June of release year, not had any problems yet. Touch wood.

Question, does this new PS3 Super Slim have better wifi performance? As everybody knows going online wireless with the actual PS3 is a pain. Thanks in advance.

Really? I never have issues with my wireless connection.
Every Thursday night i bring my ps3 to work and use the wifi signal from a restaurant about 300 ft away. Only time i uave problems is if a big truck goes by slow enough to cut my signal.
( well i used too, now i hotspot from my phone)
One of my ps3s are always wireless at home aswell and I sometimes bring my slim to a buddies with a 23 inch screen to game together. I tie into his wireless which he is hardwired into and i would get into games quicker than him.

I didnt know the ps3 had wireless issues.

Connect through wireless or ethernet cable is like day and night, I have a FAT PS3 maybe wifi was improved afterwards, but downloading patches or demos through PSN is a total different story with RJ45 cable. I even tried DMZ on router for no good.

Lucky you then.

Its probably the fat.
The wireless in ,my experience, in the slim is much better than the fatty. Before i got the slim i could not get online at work.
Apologies if my last post came of a-hole ish

I don't think it is just the fat, my slim is exactly the same as my launch 60GB was. Very, very slow, it takes almost four times longer to download 1GB on my PS3 as it does on my PC (which is wired now, but same applies for when it was on the wi-fi). I'm going to get a Homeplug for my PS3 I think so I can have it wired as well.

Well then :)

I guess im lucky. The latest bf3 patch and map pack (3 gig) downloaded and installed inside 40 minutes.

Any who :)
No more off topic from me .
