I just purchased a Escort Solo S2 radar detector for my car. I got my first chance to use it tonight and it seemed to work just great. How many of you here use radar/laser detectors, and what kind do you have?

Bottom of the line Cobra. I have had it for about three years and it has saved me many times. Doesn't make any noise at startup, only when it needs to. :knocks on wood: I have never been ticketed for speeding, nor have I been pulled over for doing so. :knocks on wood:

$329.95 ORDER NOW  I wish I had your day job (just what do you do anyway?)

 I just have a cheap one from walmart that works just fine, it's a whistler something. The one thing you have to watch out for is if you do get pulled over to ditch it right away, some cops get anal about it. And make sure there are no suction cup marks on the windshield :) I also have to keep reminding myself that they are radar detectors not police detectors.

Really? Heck I'm going to cali in may and I'm gonna use mine anyway, If I do get pulled over I can play the ignorance card. But I also have the VG2 thingy that wont let them detect my radar detector. I hear canada is using VG3 already.

hey sage i thought it was legal because it was illeagal for cops to entrap ppl?
You mean speed traps? I guess Doug would be the man to ask, but I haven't heard anything about them being illegal... we pass by several on the freeway every day.

You are right that they [radar detectors] are legal though... I just did a little research, and it seems that radar detectors are legal everywhere but Virginia and D.C., but scramblers are still illegal in California and a handful of other states.

Valentine 1 - nothing but the best.;)

Once you use it, and its arrows, you'll never want another radar detector again. I'm actually ordering another one Sunday. I'm tired of having two switch the one I have when I switch cars I drive.

Well, a lot of people love their V1's, but I'm suprised as I've also heard a lot of bad things about them. It also didn't perform well in this comparison test.

Jesus, the V1 got stomped in that comparison.:(

Are there any major differences in the Solo 2, and the 8500 X50? It looks as though the only major one is cordless vs. traditional wired. After reading that I think I'm going to try out something other than another V1. I'm leaning towards the X50 in blue.👍 Ten bucks more than the Solo 2, though.

I bought one of the cheap whistler models for about 100$ Cnd...and so far (after one month) its saved me about 200$....not that I speed like crazy, I just go with the flow of traffic which may be from 10 to 20 over.

Really? Hmm... wonder if my friend still uses his? I think they are a waste of time and money anyways.

Speaking of spead limits... I have to say I like the element now(for all that don't know I hate hondas), A couple of days an Element saved my ass from a ticket. They were still giving him a tickey when I went by. Stupid ass biker cops are really sneaky here. I wasn't going that fast but probably just over I would have gotten one.

Do they know that their radar is jammed? I'm just asking about it in general because I don't know what's actually happening in a "jam". Is it like if you have an oh so great microsoft product and it puts up a blue screen of death and then dies?

It doesn't show your speed on their guns when you go by. If you're using a jammer you only use it long enough to jam their signal, mash the brakes to get back to the legal limit, and unjam their signal. Any longer than that, and they'll know something is up, and bust your ass.
