The Virgin VR-01 has nothing to do with GT5. It was just put there (hoping that nobody would recognize the random car....but we did) to hide something else, just like for the papers.
It's definitely been photoshopped in:

Even if the why remains unclear.

If this was the case why not just remove the whole background in that TV or better yet why not just delete this picture or not publish it or the turn the TV off. PD decides what gets out why waste the man hours doctoring one picture? For instance the other pics where it shows the X1 from above those were blurred out but they didn't try to make it pretty just blocked out.

The background is definitley the same as the shot of Vettel ingame and I really do think it is the same car under the car cover. Its gotta be a F1 car under the cover it's got the supports of the front spoiler.
This picture is very interesting indeed. I can't wait to find out more information. I'm very GT hungry :)

So, PD released a screen shot of a random F1 car? Personally, I'm with Amar, there is no way they would do that with out realizing the consequences.

I don't know if you call that confirmed, but I can't write that off as an accident either.

Surely, F1 isn't the missing #3 is it? Personally, I don't think it would be, because it should require a higher level, but I thought I would throw that out there.

Has it been confirmed that the number is the required level?

I was guessing that the number is how far they have progressed in the special event.

Well, I'm hoping so, as that would make the special events more indepth. Though when you look at it, the events with Lv.0 next to them are likely to be base level events anyway. So you may be right by assuming that.

He is talking about in what order they appear on that page. Notice that karting is #1 not level and AMG Academy is #2 and then there is no #3 (this is where the guess is that there will be a F1 challenge) and then Stig Challenge is #4. Levels are at the bottom and this is a tier inside of the challenge.

I believe you are right in your guess about this. Since the Rally Challenge is showing a level 15 I am assuming that he has completed all the way up to level 15.

Guys dont try to read into the menu screens too much.

They may be mock ups like previous ones posted and Kaz confirmed on his twitter a while back.

Basically how that looks may not be exactly how it will be in the game.

Okay fair enough, though I don't think it matters what number designation they get, it's not like Stig challenge is more prestigious being a higher number.

Yeah sounds like the most logical explanation, either way I can't wait to try them out.

Yeah I'm not taking this as 100% accurate, just commenting on what we have. Menu layout looks good none the less.

This wait is ridiculous already! In a way I want more and more news as it gets closer, but at the same time I want them to stop showing stuff and leave it as a surprise haha.

The mystery f1 car might be next years red bull which would explain the photoshop but why not just delete it if thats the case?

I believe the F2007 is in because Ferrari licensed it to PD. It's quite possible that Virgin did the same.

The X-1... AWD LMP?

Ferrari licensed it to PD because they were allowed to. The 2007 season was over when Prologue came out, so the car was the property of it's manufacturer.

Then Maybe the car in question is the 2011 RBR F1. Since they are the only ones that would know what the car would look like.

Giving anyone who cares to look an idea of what they are doing on next years car? I would doubt it :sly:

There is no way Red Bull Racing, or any Formula One team for that matter, would ever reveal their 2011 car before pre-season testing, not even in a video game. Hell, the 2011 car wont even be complete by November.

Very ture, there is no way Red Bull will let PD put a 2011 car in the game. I doubt PD gave them much detail on this years car because they dont want the other teams finding out their secrets. :sly:

PD can create their own F1 cars, just like in GT4. So I really do not worry since GT games is not F1 games.

So are you guys saying there will be only one formula 1 car in the game? The farrari from GT5P?

Apologies if you already know some of this, but I'll just lay it out there for everyone.

Formula 1 is a very specific license. Currently that is held by Codemasters for the purpose of the F1 2010 game (and possibly 2011?).

So, we are 99.9% sure that PD cannot use anything with the F1 logos, etc.

However, there is a little disagreement beyond that.

Such as:
1. Can PD go to each manufacturer and license the car from them?
2. If so, can they do that on 2010 models? or does the ability to license from the manufacturer only allow for older (2009 and back) models?

In previous GT's the only F1 similar car was the Formula GT which is a mock from PD that uses older F1 regulations. However, GT5P had the Ferrari F1 from 2007. But I believe Sony held that license for that year.

But, there has been very strong clues for the inclusion of either last year's or this year's Red Bull. So, most of us are tentatively expecting one of those models.

And now...

A random picture shows the Virgin F1 car. And everything gets thrown into the air.

Again, apologies if you already know this, but I used to be a random lurker of these forums and wished someone would lay it out like this. So, I figured I would go ahead and lay it out for those guys as well. :)

This is no indication of Licensed F1 cars in GT5 but based on Famine's report (gamescom breakout session) we can at least expect some form of Formula Racing in the game (F1, F2, F3000, IndyCar, Champ car, Formula Nippon etc)

The remainder of GT Mode retains all the old favourites – licences, dealerships, tuning shop, used cars and five different levels of series (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Professional and Extreme) with the five different types of cars (Kart, Production, Rally, Race and Formula).

No, I don't believe they can.
Sony had the f2007 cause they held the license up until 2008 at which point CM picked it up.

Yea, I definitely can't claim your assumption is wrong. The crappy thing, is that none of us know for sure. :ouch:

But, I wonder what all of that posturing from Red Bull was? I'll try and paraphrase and maybe I'll find a link later, but it was something like this...

"Well, we have a great surprise and we won't tell you exactly what it is, but lets just say it was designed by Adrian Newey and driven by Sebastian Vettel"

The X1 sort-of fits, but I know that at the time, and in the context, it felt like semi-confirmation of the RB5 or RB6.

Hmm, does the F1 license make the cars/chassis unavailable to others or is it the car+livery? Could the car sans livery be made available to those without the license at the manufacturer's consent?

Yea, it is all so crazy and vague. Another thing to throw into the mix...

The freaking cars change all the time. Not just season to season, but obviously within the season, too. So, can PD take Button's high downforce setup from Monza and throw some other livery on it and use it?

It makes my brain hurt. :nervous:

So, I will stick with the most likely answer: Due to the absolute craziness of licensing in Formula 1; it must be an extremely specific license. Or be 5 million pages long and ridiculously confusing.

So, I will stick with specific. Which leads me to believe...

"So you're telling me there's a chance"

I'm guessing that it works the same way that the new NASCAR License trust works with everything as a packaged deal, the only difference being that since its exclusive that it leaves all the teams, cars and sponsors solely in the hands of the one that has the license.

The Formula 1 licence generally allows the licencee (in is case, Codemasters) the rights to the current season. GT5 cannot have 2009 or 2010 cars because Codemasters has made games for both seasons. Individual licences may be negotiated with the teams for certain cars - that's how Polyphony got to include the F2007 - but they may not be referred to as "Formula 1", and there will be rules in place to prevent a developer like Polyphony from simply getting the individual licence for each car and creating a championship from them, even using cars that are three years old.

I think that is a very plausible explanation. 👍

However, do we really know for sure? Because I think I may have a way we can find out.

This idea is so crazy... it might just work.

This Guy:

Karun Chandhok

Is a F1 computer.

So, you ask... How do we ask him? Well, lately he has been part of the Radio 5 Live broadcast that is done on the BBC's coverage of F1. During the practices they have nothing to talk about. So, people go on their Twitter and post questions.

Personally, I am never awake when the broadcast actually happens and usually have to download it, but I bet we could get an answer to a question such as this.

Personally, I think it would be a good topic for them to cover. What do you guys think?

Another very small picture of the Red Bull X-1 Protoype:

Make this shape in my opinion:
