Think bigger:

X-24-engine.GIF

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X24_engine

The straight-6 was a benchmark in engine smoothness. The V12 improved on this. So it follows that a pair of V12s (or 4 straight-6s, depending on how you wanna look at it), would be absolutely amazing. Would match the name also, :D
I doubt that would be making an appearance. The bigger the engine, the more power you get - but the heavier it will be. There would come a point where the power gained wouldn't offest the weight that compromises it. Knowing Adrian Newey, the Polyphony X1 will no doubt be designed to have the optimal power-weight ratio with an engine designed to produce maximum power and torque without being compromised by even an ounce of excess weight. To me, the X24 engine just defies all of that.

By the way X1 can be unlock if you get all the license, unlocked all the game mode, purchase all the cars, win all the competition and a 100 Million credits
I'm sorry, but there is no possible way of knowing how to unlock the X1, yet. Please do not post what you think will be the case as de-facto evidence. It will mislead others.

O M G

watch the E3 trailer again!!! and the red bull X1 prototype makes sense.....

Seb Vettle say "it can reach 400km/h on the straights" while the music is playing and you can hear him say that in the background.

He is talking about the X1!!!!

This is bad news for us who think that PD were at red bull headquaters for the F1 cars, but cool nonetheless!!!

They arent the same, If you look carefully at the Grey car you can see that on the front wing that the grey (cant think of the technical name as I'm tired) struts clearly go through the carbon wing & down an extra couple of inches. The other car (dark blue) does not have this feature.
Also the grey cars nose seems to stay at the same width whereas the other cars nose does not. Also the end of the nose for the grey car has more of a curve to it.
So, We know the Dark Blue car is the X1 (as it was in the X1 trailer)
This Grey car (from the Red Bull trailer) could maybe just be a Red Bull concept F1 car?
That would be perfectly legal to put in the game as its not officially an F1 car xD

DC, you could be onto something, here... Either suggestion is plausible at this point.

Being a close follower of Formula One, I can tell you by looking at the grey car's nose that it strikes me as being the RB6's nose. The narrow, pointy noise with the scalloped top portion going over the suspension bits definitely resembles that of the current RB6. Why they would choose to paint in an uninspiring grey is beyond me, but it certainly appears now, after closer scrutiny, that the grey car's nose is far too narrow to be the same as the X1 in the shadowy trailer.

Edit: Turns out my memory is failing me. The RB6's nose is quite a bit wider than I remembered: http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13259039

DC9990, thanks for fixing the lighting so I could see the X1 better.

:drool::drool::drool::drool:

That will hopefully NOT be able to race in Online, because who's going to beat you? Well, maybe another X1. But that car just echoes extreme. It's purpose, goal, the reason created, is to destroy Newton's laws. And it looks menacing enough to do it.

Stupid question: 398km/h=??m/h

248.75 mi/h glad to help

True, it does defy usage in auto racing a bit, it's just a wet dream of mine. Since there are no limitations on the type of engine, I think a more realistic option would be a Boxer 12 for optimum center of gravity. Maybe with a supercharger as well as a turbocharger bolted on like the Lancia Delta S4. :D

It is kinda scary when you think about it, with possibly all of the most successful banned pieces of technology over the years being placed into a car like this. Active suspension, sideskirts, movable aero devices like fans, tractor brakes, air brakes, CVT, a modern traction control unit, exotic fuel mixtures and alloys, the list is endless. It would be Max Mosley's worst nightmare.

I rather hope the X1 doesn't have CVT as it sounds horrible (and it appears it doesn't with the Vettel-gear change animation in the trailer). I'm very glad that it was banned.

Just a constant drone. :yuck:

Why do you guys keep posting the grey X1 screenshot as only like, 1/3 of the whole picture????

in the video(*TGS trailer) there is a full screenshot of the grey X1 at 2.24 or thereabouts.

Yep, exactly. Vettel (or rather, his virtual counterpart) was quite clearly changing gears. While it is a remote possibility that it is some sort of a CVT with "manual shift points" (ala Nissan's Xtronic CVT), I somewhat doubt that.

Steve Matchett (SPEED TV F1 commentator, former Benetton mechanic) once said on a broadcast that the inherent problem with the CVT being used in Formula One (apart from it being banned) was the heat buildup of the CVT's internal components and the immense stresses placed upon them by an F1 engine. In principle, the CVT is a perfect marriage for an F1 engine, but in application, it is not. There are also reduced engine braking capabilities when equipped with a CVT.

Care to post a screen shot of what you're referring to?

This screenshot you are on about is a car under covers, this isn't very helpfull as you cant see any features.
It is quite obvious that the Grey car is a different design to the Blue car in the X1 prototype video.
The front ends (nose/wing) are completely different to each other so they arent the same car.
As I said previously it makes sense & looks like Red Bull are going to be featured quite alot in GT5, X1, Vettel, Loeb & what seems to be a completely different Grey concept car.
It seems like it'll be a concept F1 car which Bernie would have no legal control over as it isn't a 2010 official F1 car.

Perhaps as a general outline. However, if you're familiar with Adrian Newey's recent work, the sidepods and other areas will be quite sculpted and have body work as absolutely tight as physically possible. You can look back at his design language starting from the McLaren MP4-19 (technically-speaking, the never-raced and aborted MP4-18), you can see just how sculpted his cars are. Now, with the current Red Bull Racing RB6, you can still see how sculpted his designs are, particularly in the sidepod and engine cover area.

Obviously, the above image is just a rough guess, but it certainly looks far too bulky without knowing just how extremely undercut the sidepods are, etc.

Check the attached screenshot, and you will see that the image of the X1 in the red bull tgs trailer at 2.24 in is indeed the same car as the car in front of the big fan.

end of discussion; DC9990

So yeah... I think we may just see the whole 2010 F1 grid in GT5...

I doubt it because Codemasters has the license for it. How do you know what's in the background is something that's in GT5? I'm not even counting on the rest of the 07 or 08 cars being in the game. F1 is something so big, that if it was in GT5, they would have announced it long ago. They would bring in thousands and thousands of fans if a full F1 grid was in the game. They would not hide something like that until release.

The X1 might have a forced induction engine after all:

What I can read of what seems a script:

- 18: xxxxxxxxxxxxx
- 19: xxxxxxxxxxx if you go.
- 20: [...] forced induction(?) engines [...] a lag after you step on the throttle, xxxxx the engine's power comes on.
(The X1 xxxxxxxx displacement(?) engine and [....] Thus increasing the challenge and xxxxx xxxx of mastering this car).
- 21: Whoa, you've given it too much throttle.
- 22: Notice that the bulk of the power comes after a slight delay, after you step on the throttle pedal.
- 23: You can tell that this car just keeps on accelerating, right?

Oh, sorry:

Ok, now that's pretty interesting..a Virgin VR-01? My first thought is perhaps for some crazy reason they had Codemasters' game running in the background, but that garage looks similar to the GT5 screenshots we've recently been getting.....

If someone wants to edit the pic of Vettle in the cockpit increase the brightness. It looks like this could be a 2 Seater with a passanger section behind the driver. Their seems to be quite a bit of space behind Vettle.

I think if you combine a Lemans type car, with F1 and the Comparo your going to have something close to how this looks. The mid section seems very intricate and compact like a F1 car

That to me looks like a script for Vettel to voice over a tutorial.

Level 3 of the Special Events?!

Whatever happens, i'll tear that 🤬 up in the F2007 anyday. 397kph is tough to beat, though.

I think the X1 looks awfully similar to the Caparo T1, look:

Ring a bell, doesn't it?

Sure does, although i imagine the X1 won't catch on fire as much...;)

We can only hope.

There’s little doubt in my mind that the garage isn't the same as the one featured in the Red Bull Prototype trailer. However, after watching the full size image posted in the news, there is no doubt that the VR-01 is in fact photoshoped into it.:banghead:

Still, considering this is official promotion material, would PD use a picture of a car they couldn't put in the final game?:nervous:
