Wow...👍

Rockstar Games released on Friday, Oct. 26

  • Over $725 million in worldwide sales in the first three days
  • Most preordered full game on the PlayStation Network
  • Biggest day one full game sales on the PlayStation Network
Rockstar also says that with over $725 million in sales, Red Dead 2 is the second highest-grossing entertainment launch of all time. What's No. 1? Grand Theft Auto V another game made by Rockstar, which earned $1 Billion in sales during its first three days.

Although, Rockstar still says Red Dead 2 has the highest-grossing opening weekend, which is technically correct since GTA V was released on a Tuesday -- so its $1 billion launch occurred during weekdays.

I wonder if it will be like GTAV and still be on "top selling" lists 5 years after it launches?

Considering Red Dead has been a console only game with a very recent history compared to GTA, those numbers are crazy.

GTAV already had pedigree and was a reference in the industry. Red Dead is new for most a people. I knew about RDR but I didn't play the first one. And I won't play it because I'm spoiled by RDR2. ^^

I think it really depends on how Rockstar handles this game's online play. The modern setting of V allowed them to keep releasing some really out-there content that brought people back to grind for, and I don't think RDR2's time in history will allow that (also pretty sure a lot of RDR2 fans don't want such content).

Regardless, all that money probably just finished out GTA VI's budget much in the way RDR2's was paid for by V.

You really should play the first one, it’s not going to be nearly as pretty as this one, or have all the bells and whistles, but it’s probably my favorite storyline in any game I’ve played.

Plus, I really do like Arthur a lot, he’s really cool and a great character, but he’s not John Marston. John, it’s hard to explain, but the way his voice is, and the absolute bat:censored: funny, and crazy 🤬 that would happen to him, and his reaction to them..it’s worth playing the first one. I think he will always be my favorite video game character, ever.

If there's one thing that is aggravating me is that I really don't think this game suits short one hour sessions (maybe even up to 2 hours). Everything is so methodical and paced that you really do need to block out chunks of time to play.

I simultaneously love this about the game but also hate that between work and finishing an MSc project it means that I can't get the proper game time I want in. The pacing is perfect for this particular game though and playing other open world games by comparison feels like such a massive downgrade. Rockstar just get what a free world should add to a game beyond quest markers, towers and pointlessly overt collectables.

Also, those release numbers are insane and totally deserved. I just wonder if we'll see any backlash from those more accustomed to adrenaline-fuelled gaming experience that are a dime-a-dozen right now.

This game is soo damn massive, the story line is incredibly long as well, but damn it's good, Much more vareity then the first RDR.

You really get a feel for the industrial age in this game especially when you get the massive pollution from Saint Denis, we humans lived like grubs back then.

Based on what R* did with GTA V... I predict ...

Download boy bought a disc copy last night! My goodness doesn't the PS4 take forever. It's estimating 6 hours to install it all. Thankfully I have RDR on my XBO to get a fix.

Edit: except I forgot I have it on disc not digital. D'oh!

At the rate I'm going it's going to take me 6 months to finish - I get easily distracted in this world. I'll definitely get my monies worth by time I'm done.

I never got past Mexico on my first play through of RDR, there's simply too much life in the open world that's captivating haha.

You can't travel to Mexico in RDR2 can you?
I wonder if they could add it as a DLC later. It would make all those printed maps a little less useful.

I still have my original horse. He is quick! He beats me to the other train stations even miles & miles way every time and waiting there for me. It reminds me of Top Gear getting off the train and thinking damn that Captain Slow has beaten me here again. I'm not sure which route he takes

It's pretty easy to not have your horse die, just make sure to feed it and keep its health bar above half way that way it wont die when you crash into something because it going to happen eventually lol

Same, never got very far in the first RDR. I still have the game and it looks pretty good, better after the 4K remaster, but I'll never find the time to finish it. Hopefully with RDR2 I'll do a better job of sticking to the story (I doubt it :)).

I found a stupid thing in the game.

If legendary animals only spawn once, save your game as soon as you hunt one and stow its pelt on your horse.

I caught a legendary moose yesterday but needed a perfect world pelt to purchase a jacket at the trapper. So I spent a few hours in the mountains, killed a bunch of wolfs but only after 10 or so I got a perfect pelt. As I was riding back to the trapper, a Cougar attacked me and I didn't have time to react. I had the bow equipped, shot an arrow to its head but didn't kill it. He came back and I died.

Then I spawn at a random place without any of the pelts I had gotten (maybe 10 perfect pelts from all kinds of animals), including the only Legendary Moose pelt.

I went back to the place where the Cougar killed me but there was nothing there.

It wouldn't be such a pain in the butt if Legendary animals spawned more often. But if you lose the only one you got because you died on your way to the trapper or fencer, good luck.

I had to load the last save file...from yesterday.

Well, at least I now know I have to save the game right after catching a legendary animal. Oh, and equip the best weapon possible.

That happened to me after I got some other legendary pelt and I lost it. I'd like to know how often they do respawn, if at all.

I didn't fire a single bullet or get shot at last night, basically the polar opposite of the previous night. I did a theft mission, was wanted at one point, paid off a bounty, did a money collection mission, got into a brawl, all without a single shot being fired. This game is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

I don't know if they respawn because once you kill one, its drawing gets crossed over in the map (as in, this one is gone).

So does 1 legendary pelt allow you to craft multiple clothing items at the trapper? I assumed legendaries respawned.

Before you did that, did you happen to check the trapper to see if he had the legendary pelt? I was reading about pelts and legendary animals yesterday, some guy said he lost a legendary pelt off the back of his horse some where, and couldn’t find it. He ended up finding it at the trapper, after he lost it.

I'm not sure but I think they work as items to unlock certain things. 1 pelt should be enough for multiple items... I mean, a legendary pelt for a hat some boots would be kinda crazy. ^^

Maybe someone on the internet already knows the answer? I don't know yet.

Would be nice if they would spawn after killing them all, not spawning like normal creatures. Dunno.

Edit:

@prousonhairy

Now that you mention that. When I lost my moose pelt after dying, I reloaded a save, killed the moose again and when I got to the trapper I had 2 pelts, somehow... I didn't understand it and thought it would be a bug or that legendary pelts allow you to craft 2 items... But I don't know how it would be at the trapper after I died because I reloaded a save from the previous day.

Weird. ^^

I dropped my Legendary Bear pelt in camp and a message came up saying it all items dropped in camp would be conveniently stored for me. I haven't bothered to check where it ended up.

No, she just helps scrub you. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance you get the full service.

I know. Havent tried taking a bath yet in Saint Denis though. Isnt New Orleans also famous for "sinning"?

The game is very harsh though. I only accidently bumped someone and suddenly I got a wanted level and out of nowhere 10 lawmen shooting. I guess the problem was that there were witnesses around. It is also very difficult to outrun the law. I have the thoroughbred, which is supposed to be very fast, however I cant seem to outpace other horses.

Probably not, since you can't even hire a lady at the saloons. It's kind of surprising you can't since they're in GTA V. Same goes for bicycles too.

@zzz_pt or anybody else that might know the answer

Did you do the JBC missions?

how much money did you get from the book from the writer guy?

I didn't finish it. And I'm not sure I will be able to. :/ But don't expect a high amount for a side mission.
