I never noticed the camera lock when being attacked by cougars, and had no idea it was a thing for wolves, which goes to show how much space I give them. I noticed they are one of the only predators without the benefit of more realistic behavior, unlike the coyotes or bears that mind their own business or run away.

I'm not a fan of forced/scripted encounters with predatory animals in otherwise "open-ended" games like this. Selectively restricting normal gameplay actions to thrust the player into a kill-or-die situation with a feared predator just strikes me as lazy demonization.

What kind of seals that impression is all the barking the wolves do, which is a lazy goof-up considering this game's attention to detail. Yes, it can be taken for granted that I would care. :p

I've killed at least 4 cougars that didn't attack me. One of them was distracted looking at the top of a tree and I came from behind. When he saw me, I shot him. The other one was running away from me and I had to ride on my horse for about 20seconds until I shot him (bow and arrow). The other one was attacking a random NPC and I shot him. The last one was having his lunch (had killed some animal) and I shot him down without him noticing me.

Most will attack if you get close, but not always. Same with wolves. There's a place up north where I hunt for bears (they spawn there) and wolves are usually around. Sometimes they will attack, others they will go away. I think they will attack, again, if you get very close. And quite often once you shoot a few, the others will run away.

Having had a browse through the strategy guide, I think I might just stop playing the story mode for a while and spend a couple of weeks just huntin', collectin', craftin' and talkin' to strangers.

What important major things / items did I miss? ^^ Can you add a spoiler?

I've not read the story mode section as I'm trying to avoid spoilers. But the story section of the guide is about a quarter of the book, the rest is just side missions and activities, the completion check-list is multiple pages. If you've a specific query I can look it up - but I guess most of it is on YouTube/Google by now.

I know I missed a few guns because I didn't finish killing the gunslingers for the "book" side quest. Only got a couple then moved on and the quest disappeared.

Are there any other items other than weapons that are missable? Clothes, pelts for example.

I'll have a proper look later but I thought you could initiate the gunslingers quest by getting the photo's out of your satchel, as long as you had the photo's. I believe there's clothes that only unlock at certain honour levels, and there's bound to be other stuff - I'll check this evening.

I'll try that later. ^^ I thought I missed the quest completely. I'll see if checking the cards work!

Also, got the pdf of the guid just now. :) It's huge!

What time is best to muck out stables ? Also where do you get a brush from to groom my horse ?

You receive a horse brush and unlock access to stables after the completion of the first mission with Hosea in Chapter 2, Where you hunt the legendary bear

I know this is old, but I read that if you die before being able to drop a legendary pelt off at the trapper it will automatically go to the trapper when you die.

This is true. This has happened to me two or three times now. Because I always just carry my pelts around not knowing what to do with them...especially when I don't need the money and don't care for crafting.

The legendary panther was a pain in the butt to kill. All the others were easy and first try... But with the Panther I had to make a save file because I was dying a lot. I had to reload the save around 10 times to get it right.

Panther or Cougar?

There was a legendary big cat in RDR & I can’t remember whether it was a Cougar or a Panther?

When Penelope said "They'll send me to some place awful like Ohio", living on the border, that hit home. I about died laughing as it was very true.

I'm not loving the whole game mechanics around pelts. I know it'd be less realistic, but it would be a lot more straight forward if they were just satchel items.

About 30 hours in and I'm blown away by the amount of detail put into this. The graphics are amazing, I didn't even know my old PS4 could have a game that looked this good. The sound, music, voice acting is all spot on as well. This game is as close to perfect as a game can get.

Do you remember if you got the money as well?

My task for the weekend in RDR2: Find an owl, and kill it. I need that feather to craft a homing Tomahawk, I'm curious how that works

No, but I think you have to pay the trapper to get them back. Not sure though.

I had 2 owl feathers I got from some guy (loot) and then I sold them by mistake to the trapper. /facepalm

I've tried to look for them in the wild, following their sound but I can never find them. ^^

I came across two at night the first time I visited an area I hadn't been to before.
Anyone having a hard time locating certain animals can get some help here with marked map locations for every single one - https://rankedboost.com/red-dead-redemption-2/hunting-wildlife-fishing/
I still haven't actually seen a panther though. But maybe using predator bait in one of their few supposed locations will work.

I ended up going to Tall trees to hunt a moose and found 2 owls just standing on top of a rock ^^ didn't have my Varmint rifle so I blew them to smithereens with a Carcano rifle (the one I use the most for large animals).

I think panthers unlock with Master Hunter challenge lvl 9. Once you do it, you can hunt panthers and the legendary panther as well. I got the legendary first :) they're ruthless!

Shootouts are fun. I did all the gang hideout missions and now I'm just committing minor crimes to get lawmen on me and getting into massive shootouts. You don't lose any honor for killing lawmen, luckily.

I read somewhere that you lose 100 honor points for killing a lawman.

But I've read wrong stuff already. I'll try and kill a lawman to see. Some guides say you get double the bounty for catching criminals With max honor but I only get 10% more.

Anyway, killing lawman should get you a penalty, for sure.

I have only just bought the game. Man it is good. I loved the last RDR so I knew that I would enjoy it. That transition from snow to half-thaw and now to the green world was so cool. And shooting wide-life and lugging them back on the horse is a blast. At first I was not sure about playing Arthur as I liked John so much- but he is now growing on me!

edit- One of my favorite moments in the last game was the rain and thunderstorms that boomed across the game world. Does this game still have moments like that? Rain, darkness, thunder- you know those really epic moments!

Man, moose are pretty hard to come by. I caught one swimming away from a wolf but got side tracked and didn't follow the moose, so I lost it forever. Also accidently came across an owl but I'll try to get the feathers not that I know about them.

I've noticed I get no loss from killing or looting bounty hunters. Which is nice. But haven't ruffled up any towns as much as I would like. I really want to enter the Fort.

Yes. Theres a region you can watch thunderstorms that are spectacular, to include lightning. Darkness isn't ever DARK like pitch black, but always like a full moon. Which is preferred imo

Anyone else having problems with Arthur being underweight. It feels like I’m stuffing food in his mouth all the time, yet he stays underweight. Sometimes I manage to get him up to average, but it quickly goes down again.

I'm underweight since I started the game but no problems came with it tbh.

For Arthur though, there's an explanation for his lack of weight. You'll understand, depending on how far you're in the story.

Not a problem per se, it just annoys me every time I go into the player menu, it says underweight.

Oh okay, I’m in chapter three. So guess I’m not far enough yet. What is he, an undiagnosed diabetic? :-)

I 🤬 hate the lasso in this game. Seems impossible to actually catch anything with it. :banghead:
