Should I install rFactor? I have a free copy of it.

I want a game that lets me experience the feeling of driving race cars, I'm less concerned about focused racing and hardcore tuning.

Does anyone know how to make it so that if you enable the clutch you can't shift without ussing it? I noticed that the car would stall if I didn't accelarate properly but I could shift without using the clutch.

Rfactor is one of the best, most realistic racing sims out there, but the true beauty comes from all the mod content available online (for free). Depending on what games you have played before you might find Rfactor a bit harsh.

Some of the cars take the "real life is harsh" theme a bit too far, where as others get it spot on. If you have been playing gran turismo alot then it will take some getting used to, but its worth it. Lastly, you need a FFB racing wheel to really enjoy/appreciate this game.

Once installed, take the time to check out "Rfactor Central" for some of the mods, the basic game is quite bare, and you will find the best cars, tracks and racing series on that website.

CART Factor, F1 1985, FSONE2009, Série Internationale Du Mans, Bathurst Legends are my mod recommendations, If you're into NASCAR then NSS2010 & VHR Stockcar 2010Edition are highly praised.

Here is a video of me round my favourite curcuit of the moment cadwell park in the 1985 mod in the renault. You will notice that I take some corners a gear higher because otherwise the back decides it wants ago in the lead.

Edit: It probably doesn't help that I can't get the throttle full open whatever I adjust on the control setting menu it is still just a tiny bit off the top so I can't get full throttle. :(

Those cars are such a handful to drive, the turbo lag on them makes it so unpredictable, its smooth up until that crossover point where the turbo kicks in and then the power goes through the roof, really easy to spin those cars.

Great driving though, and nice looking "oldschool" style track, i might have to download that, reminds me a little of Goodwood. I always drive the lotus when i play this mod, probably my favourite car of all.

I drive the lotus or the ferrari usually however I was just trying out different cars and the renault felt suprisingly planted over the bumps and out of corners.

Speaking of rFactor 2, has ISI given any clues as to a release date?

Only that they are shooting for this fall, or before the end of the year. However, it may be early next year given how little is know at this stage.

We're doing a CARTFactor race at SROL, off to Long Beach. First time I've used the mod, quite fun, though changing from 1st to 2nd is dangerous out of the hairpin.

Any of you guys know of a complete Replay Fridge guide for rFactor? I have managed to figure out most of the keys for the cameras. I can't seem to find the one to get back to the cockpit and a few others like how to keep a camera static. Cheers.

Press the Home key iirc.

Not sure if you guys will be able to see this, but from our 8th round in the BTCC championship at SROL.

Two race wins \o/ 2nd with 45Kgs of ballast. Just impossible to overtake here, which is good and bad, resulting in the chaos you see. I'm in the Accord with the James Thompson livery from 97/98 season.

Well seeing as I'm lazy and don't have much time can someone please point me towards where I could find info on how to get my DFGT working in 900 degrees mode for rFactor?
Or at least how can I make it so that it locks at 200 degrees, or the nearest increment, so that it doesnt just keep going past that point with no steering?
Understand? Didn't think so... :D

For anyone interested we're doing an F1 season at SROL using F1RFT 2010 (just downloaded the mod, will play with it tomorrow), 12 races (skipping the boring tracks), half race distances everywhere except Spa which is full. Event day is Saturday with Qualifying starting at 3PM EST (which is 8PM BST).

Ahh I forgot about the profiler.
I think I found where to do it in Logitech Profiler this morning after I read your post Gabs.
Forgot to see if it actually works... :P
Will do tomorrow evening.
Cheers 👍

I am thinking about building a gaming pc so I can race on rfactor....

I currently race on ps3 gt5p, nfss etc......but looking for more variety

can some recommend some quality hardware for this project......

thanks

at wat resolution? for a bit of futureproofing, a decent quadcore+ a gtx 460 or 5850 let you run any racing game pretty much maxed out @ 1080p. there is a current game in beta i am testing that brings my pc to its knees, but i cant talk about that.

I bought this eMachines (refurbished) for $300 and added a decent HD video card for $75, runs quite well with up to 14 cars. As a first PC (I'm a Mac user) I am quite pleased. Hope it helps.

A few of my "famous" sim racing fail starts.

Start Fail #1 - Season 6 V8 Series at Adrenalin Factor. Left room for Nifty in 2nd before hitting the kerb and losing control of the Sandman Young Lions car into the wall. The car bounced off the wall back into the middle of the road where I was then cleaned up by iRacer Peter Read in the Orion Race Team V8. All hell broke loose then....

Start Fail #2 - F4000's at Race Factor. My VisionRacer car on pole position mysteriously started in 2nd gear..... Or maybe I stuffed up. Anyway nothing too bad happened as a result of this. Except Terry Nightingale who lost it into the wall.

Start Fail #3 - V8 Supercar Falcon FG on iRacing. Thought I put the car in first gear but didn't have the clutch in. So went to start the race in Neutral.... Hmmm, again got cleaned up at the start.

Watch and Learn. :dopey: (Does include an iracing video (third bad start, but was unsure where to put this vid so put it where majority, 2/3, of the bad starts happened.)

If you want fail starts, just look for my car every time in the F4000's

I have paddle clutches, so my usual tactic of build up 2/3 revs, then dump on green works well on F1s, but with the lower torque Holden engines, they just bog down.

Just did a lap around Sebring in the BMW Sauber. Even with all that Downforce and Heat in the tires, car still got tail happy in some corners. Managed to pull off some flyers though.

After some very severe procrastination, I can finally show you guys the Corvette:
