Decided to get the game last night because a lot of people are saying this is the best sim on the market (after iRacing, but I'm not going to be paying monthly fees, no waaaay, plus don't care too much for online-only games).

So what mods do you guys recommend? I've installed the one with F1 cars from 2010, and installed the V8Factor. Is there any mod that makes the game have better physics or something like that (kinda like Overhaul for Shift1), or the game is just fine in its stock form?

Is there any mod that lets you use your wheel's buttons to navigate the menus? I'm using DFGT and I play on my TV, so every time I want to change my car or track or enter a race I have to go to my PC and twist my head to look at my TV and use my keyboard and mouse to navigate. Very annoying.

You can find it in f1 classic.

To navigate the menus with DFGT just map the buttons you want to use.
And the physics depend of the mod.

Yeah, its a troll car but i like the model, my wip is still wip, you have all those cars, i dont know if you already try it, some have good physics, other just generic, you have this

*facepalm* is it maditory to have unfitting songs for mods? Seriously, who thought Black Eyed Peas goes well with Racing?

As for the car model itself, its pretty good. Too bad they didn't get that droning noise that makes the car cool. I love the X1 (even if its caused me a few fits). I honestly find the "wipeout" comparison and criticism everyone makes to be massively overexadurating especially since this was dreamt up by a F1 Designer and not some average game designer using outlandish Sci-Fi designs.
 
Hey, do you guys want to make a really laid back and relaxed league?
I was thinking that it would be cool if we had a GTPlanet rFactor league. :)
 
I still have yet to play GT5 (sadly), so I can't say I've experienced this car in GT5. It would be absolutely insane to put these cars through their paces in an rFactor environment. Your reaction time has to be as almost doubled as your normally have to have for a Formula One race. I even once blogged about what it would be like if there were a full field of these cars for an F1 race. It would be absolutely insane! That's the magic of gaming- wildest dreams coming true. I'm a big WipEout fan, so I am not offended by any WipEout comparisons of this car.

I will go download a few more mods for rFactor. One in particular was one I had previously installed- the Truck Series Racing mod. Nothing like racing something where you're high off the ground! :)
 
the x1 is so fast, its not even fun to drive. it to an f1 car is like a volkswagon beetle to a porsche 911 turbo, while on Thorazine.

I tried a while ago, but we never agreed on a mod, time, layout, anything. I also tried to run a time trial series, which failed purely on numbers alone.
 
Please explain? You buy the game for $20 but then have to pay for subscriptons regardless of whether you play online or offline?

Are all mods free??

So look I've never played PC sims before but this thread has convinced me to have a go.

What would I need to get started on rFactor and where do I get mods from?

How much are the PC upgrades ( we just run a Viglen on XP) and the like, basically just give me a Dummies book-style guide to this whole thing.

mods are super easy - it's mostly just drag and drop into various program folders (Vehicles, Sounds...etc)
 
So I downloaded that f1 mod (CTDP) in which in turn installed realfeel. However it has this setting that ruins the whole game for me- steering force. I cant understand the purpose of this option. It makes my t500rs so bloody strong and I cant turn it off. It only goes down to 33%. I dont understand what is the purpose of this setting at all in the 1st place.

I just want to turn that option off but keep realfeel, etc on

I love F1 CTDP, its launcher is very convenient. Have you tried reducing the Force Feedback in the main rF settings? This might bring it back to a balance you like. I don't have the t500.
 
Yeah I guess when I get a chance I will give that a try. I'm just surprised SteeringForce cant be turned down to 0%. In GTR Evo, I can turn off steering force completely and still keep FFB turned all the way up. It was my understanding GTR Evo basically has that RealFeel plugin built in...

What SteeringForce does is apply a ton of force to my wheel when I make a turn. Just turning my wheel a little to left/right makes it really snap in a direction and I have to fight to keep the wheel straight. I imagine on other wheels this setting must be a lot less annoying but on this wheel it just seems like a death wish. Weird!

Can you guys tells me how to install this mod? I haven't played Rfactor in quite some time and I seem to have forgotten how to install mods properly :dunce: I DL'd the DRM mod and then extracted it and tried copying it to the game data folder, but this didn't seem to work. I've also tried a few other things without any success.

Anyway, thanks a ton for any help :) This mod looks like a blast!
