Is that the GTR? I was in to the :05's but it looks like I need a little more work. I suspect practice rather than setup.

Having said that, are you using aftermarket aero, or the spoiler it comes with? I stuck with the original for aesthetics, but that might be a bit pointless, since it's a standard car anyway.

I only recently found you could put spoilers on the standard cars.

I'm using the M3 csl '03 with an aftermarket wing on it. With a Corvette Z06 I'm about 1 sec. slower.

Hi guys, had a couple of messages asking about car eligibility. The cars in question were the Camaro SS '10 Edge edition and the Nissan 370Z Academy car.

My view is this; The Camaro Edge is still a road car, their is no way it can be deemed as a race car just because of graphics. Same goes for the Nissan 370Z Academy. Yes, it may be tuned and have a wing but their is nothing on that car that cannot be fitted to the regular version available in the dealership and i have stated in the rules that their is no restriction on your tuning options. It is still a road car because the interior is identical to the standard version, it has no roll cage and it comes delivered with Sports Hard tyres, not Racing Hard tyres.

Hope that helps :)

Got some fast drivers here by the look of it so far; i'm struggling to get anything below 2:09.xxx !! Must have tried 20+ cars now!

Hi X :)
That is, "too slow", something is wrong. Even if you are self-entitled "average racer". Are you using Racing tyres? Soft compound? I am pretty sure that, with a good car and decent setup, with racing soft's, you can shave 2/3 sec. I have 6/8 cars, with wich I can do bellow 2.06 (in career mode, practice, racing soft's).
Send me a message if I can help in any way ;)

Well, one more week of waitting... C'est la vie
👍

Haha, yeah i think i'm going to get slaughtered ! I've managed to get 2 cars into the 2:07's and one car managed a 2:05 so i'm a bit happier now but seriously, i have tried 30+ cars! I think when it comes to race conditions though that i'll be quite competetive; i'm a good over taker (often around the outside!) and very consistent and consistency is better than 1 or 2 hot laps. I also think i can get my chosen car to go a second or so faster with some careful tuning.

Ya know, I could just set the alarm for 0330.... Good luck on the series X!

Cheers Soul ! We'll have to sort out a new racing league that fits in with our differing time zones once the 8 weeks have passed, you up for that? Different regs' from this series perhaps?

You know I would be up for that! Let me know PM what you are thinking and perhaps I can start doing some testing. I think we could definitely come up with something interesting though!!

EDIT: Just a thought - but maybe a UK vs US series??
EDIT 2: I raced in a room with Super Tourers only and it was a friggin blast. Some of the closest racing I have been in.

Sounds like a plan, will have a good think about it and let you know soon enough.

At the rate it's going at the moment though we'll be lucky to get started by 2015 ! Getting fed up now with this outage, just how difficult is it for Sony to give us a genuine date when we can get back online? At 1st i wasn't too fussed, with the attitude that the online service is free and we'll be back on soon. But now we're into the 3rd week of all this and we've had statements saying when they expect it to be up and it's not happened. I don't like people who say when they expect to do something. As a business owner i only operate by firm dates and the same should apply to all businesses, small or large regardless of the situation.

I have tried two of my favorite FRs now, the TVR Tamora and the the Tuscan.
I'm having a best of 2:10:xx.
But I have realised that the BMWs, especially the CSL is among the best,

The BMW's do seem quite popular. I tried the TVR's too and must admit that i was disapointed with their lack of pace.

Seems there's a consensus the CSL is better than the GTR. Looks like I might get yet another week to find out!

I've got 3 BMW's that are doing incredibly similar times (often within hundredths of a second) so the choice may come down to something as random as which one sounds best, haha! I get a feeling this will be the BMW race series - maybe some weeks we should opt for a theme to mix things up a bit?
As for not starting on Saturday, i have a bad feeling that you're right. :indiff:

I have 2.08.322 now, with the BMW Z4 M Coupe '08. Pretty happy with that time.
I'm going for a setup that's stable. I don't think anyone's going to manage below 2.07 online with all the other cars. And and spinning out will be costful.

I'm thinking about posting a pic of my car here.
Might bee fun to see what everyone's driving.

This is shaping up to be the BMW series, deafinatly, haha! Will take some pics' of my favourite 3 later on and post them up. After learning of the revelation of the handling physics differing between online and offline i'm no longer practicing, seems like a waste of effort. Also, oddly enough, i'm watching Top Gear at the moment and it's the one at the Isle of Man featuring the M3 CSL, M1, M5 and original M3 ! They really should have put the M1 in GT5.

Yeah. They should've. The M1 is just such a beautiful car.

And I'm having 2.08 with DS3 as my best.
I'm just thinking that since we probably won't be able to have a race tomorrow, do you have any way to host a short try-out session during the week.
We could do some online tuning for ourselves, but If anyone could host. It would be fun.

And I'll get some shots up later. ;)

I've been thinking something like that myself, but we will all need to agree on a time and day that's best for us all - hence why the Saturday club works so well!
On the off chance that it does go back on tonight (rumours are circulating) then will everybody be available to compete in the 1st race tommorrow?

So what did you learn about the online handling physics? I noticed a big difference in handling online than offline, but not really sure why it is like that. Could you share some insight? I think the BMWs are going to be tough to beat and I knew that, so I have been tring to find a car that can compete because I like to be different :sly: I think I should be able to race this weekend as long as the race still starts at 1:00pm or 1:30pm your time.

I've not learned anything yet, the info was given to me during the outage so it's only information that i've learnt of. I gather though that the physics are quite different - for good or worse, i don't know.

From what I remembered, I had a maxed out SLR McLaren set up for a tiny bit of oversteer, but when I tried it out on a track online was this:

The car lacked lots of grip, the suspension felt very stiff because of this and there was huge amounts of high-speed understeer. (300 km/h+)

(This is how I would describe it, I may be wrong, but this just what I experienced. Please correct me or post what you experienced.)

The main issue is the lack of grip, so you might want some body roll and a car set up for oversteer.
Just in case you have a very "balanced" car, you might know what to expect.

"oh yeah baby!" count me in! 👍 patiently waitting...
anyway, I usualy have availability during the week, so just say when.
but you know what, this outage made me realise that there's life beyond GT5

3 BMW's i've been testing; didn't realise before this what good fun cars the BMW's are to drive - got them all now, haha!

So you have tested the CSL, GTR and the M5?

I'm actually going with a Z4, I had a 2:07:981 with my M3 (E92).
But I don't care if I come in last, the Z4 is just such a fun car to drive. The M3 is just "static".
I'll try to tune the CSL in my garage and see what I get, I'll see if I can get below 2:05:xx.

I think the CSL is just a tad faster than the GTR but overall i prefer driving the M5; it just feels good whereas the 2 M3's have had to be fitted with a wing for me to drive them at a competetive level. Tried the Z4 M coupe but found it just a bit too tail happy!

Just a quick confirmation. Is the Toyota FT-86 G SPORTS CONCEPT '10 allowed?:)

cheers

This race today is looking more unlikely as the hours pass by. Such a shame, it really is.:grumpy:

Any one watching the formula 1 qualifying later to pass the time?:)

COME ON LEWIS!
