If I could reach through this screen and strangle you, I'd let up at the last moment, allow you to catch you're breath and do it again.

I noticed before clicking into this thread that an attachment had been added. I wrongfully assumed that Pako's pic was the only one attached.

Scared teh crap out my secretary, again. This thread is not good for my heart.

I'm going to have to ask Jordan to ban all pictures of spiders on his site. And So help me god, if one of you gets the idea of making that your avatar, I'll book a plane flight to whereever you are to kick your monitor in.

Ask my wife how paranoid I am. I was visiting her before we got married, and was flipping through a "Ranger Rick" magazine to find a double page layout of a tarantula. I went backwards over the dining room chair, breaking it in three pieces, the magazine landed on the other side of the room, and I gave myself a good whack on the head from running square into the wall.

All this stems from a childhood incident, that scarred me for life. I was about age 8, and late one evening, jumped into bed hit the light and started to slip into sleepmode. I felt something move on my leg, assumed it was the sheet, and continued on my sleep pattern. Moments later the sheet moved again. So I flipped on the light, threw back the sheets and found a Huge wolf spider sitting on my leg. (I've got severe shakes right now thinking about it). Everything locked up. I couldn't move, scream, or breathe. After a few moments, it shot off my leg and under the bed. Screamed like no tomorrow, and literally tore my room apart looking to kill it. Never found it. The result was that I finally passed out two days later from lack of sleep. It took months for me to even sleep in my room again. even then, I had to have a can of raid next to my bed, and I remade the sheets every night for almost a year.

So thanks Meeekal, I really needed a jolt to the heart this morning.

This is why I posted a link instead of the pic. They could either click on it or just read the thread.

Rightfully Said Der! With an experience like that, I would understand your feelings toward this subject and I'll back you on that notion. I really don't think Meeekal meant to do that directly towards you though. I'm sure he had no intention on making someone get hurt or worse over it. I had a similiar experience with snakes when I was younger and was scared crappless from them until I turned 22. A roommate made me get over the scarrs I had from childhood. I got bit by a coral snake down here and the vemon that thing had incapacitated me. I was 5 at the time. So, when I was jumping house to house until I found the place I am currently living, I had to stay in a room with three snakes, two 6 foot boas and a 8 foot python. Man, ttalk about uneasy sleep. But my roommate show me not to be scared of most of these things. As long as I don't see a water moccosin or coral snake, I am not scared of the things now. I'll tell you this though, and experience with a wolf spider in that manner is tough! My regards to you for dealing with that and hopefully it turned into a 3 foot splatter range for that spider!

Ah, the thread is misleading...maybe TVR king should change it to.."Big Spider Pics"?

arrrggghhhh should have thought of that.....stupid me:banghead:
fixed now.........i shall only do links from now on :(

It was Ok. I'm just excessively jumpy.

However, you'll be getting a bill from my cardiologist. ;)

If i saw a spider that big I'd run out the house lol, a few months ago i was waking up on a saturday morning only to find about 3 inches from my face one of the biggest friggin spiders i'd seen in my life. I was in so much shock i threw the pillow as hard as i could across the room and ran, i had to get my dad to get rid of it.

I am pretty scared around actual spiders. I dont mind seeing pictures of them, and the odd time I will touch one.

Oddly enough, I am much more terrified of smaller, quicker spiders in the size range of 2cm wide. However, larger tarantulas dont scare me nearly as much, and I have held several species at pet shows etc.

Here is the Sydney Funnel Web. It is considered to be the Worlds most dangerous spider. It has EXTREMELY potent venom, combined with a VERY aggressive and hostile attitude. It attacks with very little provocation. This particular species only resides in a Sydney Australia and a little ways around the city.

Here is the runner up: The Brazilian Wandering Spider
It is just as aggressive as the Sydney Funnel Web, slightly more potent venom, but it rarely comes in contact with humans. It lives in the Brazilian rainforest.

Here is possibly THE most aggressive spider on Earth. Its called the Cobalt Blue. It attacks anything that moves! People often have them as pets due to their beautiful colouration.

maybe u should provide a link for reasons of Der Alta's sanity!!!

I recommend u do....cause if what happened to der alta, happened to me i would not want to see any more pics.....

Heh...damn...i know what to do if i get a funnel web bite though...A few days ago i saw an echidna in the bush next to my house...(that was a bit OT, but yeh).

i'm pretty affraid of the 8 legged bastars, but i saw that spider on fazed (www.fazed.net) go there and check out the motherB when it was behind the clock, 3 huge hair legs sticking out *shudder*

Hhhhmmmm...

After seeing this topic the other day (and the pics of that big spider of course) i went to sleep that night (as you do) and had a nightmareish dream.

I was standing near a doorway somewhere and someone walks into the spot where the door would be if it were closed, and lets loose a great big black tarantula which runs right past me to the right really fast.

I immediately woke up (like you would if someone gave you a really big fright) and then turned the light on looked around and shook my blankets. Just in case....

It's not the first time i've had nightmareey dreams like this either.

I remember this dream I had when I was a very young child.

I was at my Grandmothers house and there was this huge black and white spider sprawled across the patio window/door. I would go near it for some reason, and as I got closer it would start to shake and make this huffing and puffing noise. As I get closer, I realise that there is all of this dust shaking off of it as it vibrates and hisses. It was a very scary dream.

curiosity got the best of me.....i clicked the link and all the other ones in this thread........... i don't think i'm sleeping tonight, or any night for that matter. :nervous: :scared:

Spiders are cool, but yes, they are very very scarty.

I almost got bit by a Black Widow a while back.

I was reaching behind my trash can to my electrical socket to check my cords. All of a sudden, i feel a spider web thats rather thick. I quickly whip my hand out, looking down to find that the huge (1/2 inch +) Black Widow about 2 mm from biting my hand!

That gave me a scare. I immediately shot out of my room and got my mom to dispose of it.

I would've had a heart attack.

I almost got bitten by the Spider King (Redback) once - I was about 12 at the time, looking for a can of WD-40 for my old man and I looked in one box, felt around for a bit, only to find the spider walking along its web in the direction of my hand.

VERY VERY scary. :(

First I saw that spider and thought... kill it... then I thought, that is one big sucker!

Then my problem...

How do you kill that without making one nasty mess?

Well, someone else also thought of this and mentioned the perfect weapon for such a monster... the bb gun!

I would never hit that thing with a shoe.

Jeez!

Nasty little buger.

I stomped a little baby redback when i was little...it was at the playschool thingo...only about 1 cm big...

holy crap talk about irony, last night after i posted my comment about what you cant see cant hurt you i had a dream about spiders, i ended jumping out of my bed and frantically searching my bed covers

but yeah i like some of the comments that were posted on fazed.net and some other forums "stepping on that thing would be like stepping on a puppy" or "if you could ever muster up enough balls to get close enough to it you could pin it to the wall with a big knife and show it offf to your friends"

The Australian Redback is almost identical to a Black Widow of North America.

What their venom does, is basically causes EVERY muscle in your entire body to contract as hard as possible. So, imagine every muscle in your body contracting as hard as it can. i.e. Bicep vs. Tricep = harsh pain. Not to mention all of the muscles in your groin and feet etc. It is extremely painful. If you dont get anti-venom you'll eventually die of exhaustion.

The spider that is in the first few posts of this thread is a Huntsmen, they are known to be one of the fastest spiders on Earth. I think they can run the equivalent of of a human running 150mph according to body size.

Is anyone here really afraid of snakes?

you ever hear of camel spides? the latch on to the bottom of camels, slowly chewing on them, eventually all their guts will just spill out. I believe their running speed was 30 something, mph kmph, i dunno, dont quote me on it :)

Last year - it was cicada hatching time. They must have ben busy because cicadas were everywhere!

Anyway I went to go outside - a rare occasion if I must say. And a cicada landed on my shoudler. I ran around for 1 minute scared out of my life I seriously was freaked out, I was flapping my arms, screaming at teh top of my lungs and it was making it's churping noise. It wouldn't get off. I started to panic and I could feel tears of fright falling down my face - DON'T CALL ME A ***** - I eventually had the guts to take off my shirt, I ran up the road about 300m to get away from it.

I hate going outside now when theres lots of bugs.

Spiders scare the **** outta me.

Why go outside at all ?, I mean, obviously you have a PS2 since you're in this forum. which also requires either a PC && a Mac. I mean - for what reason would you go outside ?.. I only go outside on purpose to ride my bike and I usually kill a decent amount of bugs when I'm on it  Watch out nature, The Bikers strike back :)
