The RX8 has better handling and is more practical, so if by 'watered down' you mean 'safer and easier to drive' than yeah I suppose you're right.

The RX7 has higher tuning capabilities but if you're talking minor mods I'd have to go with the RX8 being the better car (Coming from a hard core RX7 fan)

I have driven both cars it probably doesnt help the RX-8 that the one I drove was automatic whereas the RX-7 was a manual. I felt the RX-8 was just so soft compared to the RX-7(FD).

An Auto will always feel soft compared to the manual. I urge you to go to your local Mazda dealership and take a manual one for a test drive (Even better if you can find one on an auto trader website or something similar and test drive one that way, some owners are more lenient about how much you push it while remaining under the speed limit. Certainly more so than dealers are)

well, it really wasnt just the feel during acceleration. the suspension felt really soft as well compared to the RX-7. If i can track down a standard shift RX-8 and can convince the owner to let me try driving it.
