Looking good Stega!!

Quick question.....what were the 8020 pieces you bought to make the monitor stand?

Can you tell us how much did the 8020 parts (also 3-screen parts, or you could separate those if possible) you are now using cost? 👍 Thanks in advance..

I already asked the same question but stega prefers not to answer my question. :(

Mr. Latte got his entire intention. (an observation, not an insult!)

Well, can't see the problem answering that question.. Everybody knows they are not cheap, but the "accurate" price would just be interesting to know.

Ok lets see. For the basic frame alone it was $262+tax+shipping but that was the most basic frame pieces. With no seat. I must have spent at least another $300+ on various parts from 80/20 and Nick to make it work with the screens and all my other goodies.

As for the monitor stand I will take some pictures of it tonight. I have essentially a VESA mount arm for each screen that is then attached to the cockpit via a mount that is attached to the main frame. I really just made a drawing of what I thought would work and ordered some pieces that were of proper size. It is really a custom mount for me, and may not work for others. The parts I ordered were just basic 1515 light extrusions and joining plates like Nick says.

Here is a link to the frame.

I will post a full breakdown of costs if you guys would like later today when I get back home.

I am in contact with a 80/20 rep, I am trying to get a catalog but he wants me to send him dimensions of my project. A bit hard to tell him what I want to create a Bill of Materials when I don't know what all my options are!

On another note I downloaded the Blur demo yesterday and was checking out the audio options. Under Advanced audio options there is an adjustment for the LFE channel! Unfortunately I have yet to try the demo since I had friends over for BBQ and Brew. I am curious how this adjustment will enhance the Tactile Transducer and game play.

Yeah, but I wanted a hard copy with their current price sheet. I went through the main site but they put me in contact with their closest distributor which is in Phoenix Arizona.

I did not go through local distributors, even though they were within a few miles of me. I ordered from their ebay site and the stated shipping was vastly overestimated and was reduced by 8020 before the order was completed. Just an FYI.

However my local rep did want to come to my office with their kiosk/computerized catalog and find what I wanted on the spot for me. (this all sounded very nice but was necessary for my needs)

1515 is probably the extrusion size what you want to be working with.

What's the next thing that you want to do with your cockpit?

lol this is seriously a tough one to answer. I am currently looking to add some audible base near the rear of my cockpit just like Latte plans to. Other than that I would like to carpet the floor of the stage/platform and also add a metal plate to rest the heels of my feet when not on the pedals.

I would also like to add some cosmetic stuff like lights perhaps or decals who knows. Those Carbon Fiber decals Nick uses are awesome!

I will think of more!!!!

Oh yhea I also bolted a BK mini lfe to the bottom of my pedal tray.
Pics coming tonight of my progress.

Picture time!
Grabbed some shots of the cockpit w/ my friend Matt playing.

Bk mini lfe mounted to pedal tray.

Thanks for sharing new images Steggy!

Thats a LOT of framing at the back of the monitors, more than Id of imagined to be honest. Although with the format you have their it might be possible to add some form of shleving for consoles etc, if needed?

Does your system have rear speakers, is it 5.1 sorry Ive forgot but wondering as I dont see the rear speakers mate.

Well basically I made it extra sturdy just to be sure it would hold all the weight properly. Now that it is all holding and seems to be very stable I will begin to streamline the frame.

No I do not have rear speakers. I use the YSP4000 soundbar which is designed to simulate full surround w/o all the speakers and it does a damn good job in the small room I have it in you think you have speakers right behind you. I used the calibration mic that came w/ the soundbar to properly calibrate it each time I move pieces of furniture/cockpit.

I am now looking for some suggestions from others of how I can possibly further improve the cockpit/experience if anyone has some ideas for me I am all ears. I do plan to streamline the frame and do some cable management this week, as well as adding some audible bass to the rear of the cockpit.

Yes, I have an idea. Make a motion platform. Plenty of examples on the net and there is the x-sim² software. Aaaand make it, at least, a 4 DOF.

If for mainly console usage then you pretty much have most of it sorted.
I guess you could do cosmetic things and tart it up a bit with lights, decals or some plastic panels. Invert the pedals perhaps, possible handbrake maybe?

From a system entertainment perspective I guess you could go for 7.1 audio via a proper AV Reciever with surround speakers in the room but if your happy with the audio then thats pointless. 3DTV would also be a possibility even with PC games and using whatever glasses the TV has instead of Nvidia's. However 3D to me might not be any better in sheer entertainment and if anything perhaps less impressive than what triple monitors is.

In PC sim terms, well yeah I guess working switches, working speedo and revs would be the next options to consider along with using that cool TouchBuddy software.

Motion cockpits, Ive never been convinced and I tell you why, no proper console support and well I game for fun. I get the feeling I might find motion very annoying after a while. Yes for the semi pro racers that use sims to tweek thier skiils fine thats maybe great.

However if spending the evening playing a game after a curry and a few beers, maybe not so good. Its the expense and noise of them with that errjh, errjh, errjh sound they make as well, nah I wouldnt be dying to add motion to a sim that I could spend hours on.

I use to have a Honda CRX with a very stiff suspension which even was a problem on highways. Every time after at least half an hour drive, it had a slight headache and pain in my lower back. Maybe a motion plaform can be as irritating as my (ex) car.

stega, maybe you could hire real pit babes?

A blue flag because you won't be able to concentrate on the race.

As long as he doesnt do what Ive seen some pure ejits do and sit with a pair of gloves and helmet on. Oh gees that takes me to the fair. Like seriously theirs enjoying your toys as a man and taking things just a little too far.

If you do this Steggers, Im going to have to swim the whole Alantic just to come and slap you with something wet and smelly.

On a more serious note do you think your going to be playing more of GT5 than say PC sims?

You will never see me with a helmet on and a racing suit sitting in my cockpit. It is hot enough on its own w/ shorts and a t-shirt lol.

I will be playing more GT5/consoles than pc sims as most of my friends play on console... But I enjoy both.

I took my sub box out today as my lease is up next month. I think I will use the 1 JL W6 12'' for my cockpit after I test it and sell the car amp to buy an amp to use it at home. The amp is a JL 500/1 if anyone is interested I can get pics of that too if anyone wants.
