If anyone wanted to see the "thank you" commercial, here it is, in three flavors: Quick Time, Windows Media, and Real.

Incredibly moving, even for a big tough guy like me. 👍 And no, it doesn't make me want to go out and buy Bud. It's just a lame Liberal excuse to slander the commercial.

Who can argue with burt reynolds? Come on. Then they added a bear and I was sold.

The fed ex commercial was refreshing, it poked fun at commercials. Who doesn't like a little satire in their life...

Burt Reynolds!! Come on. BURT REYNOLDS!!

Wow, that 'thank you' ad is very moving indeed. Expecially for someone like me who has no care whatsoever about America or any of its business.

I went back to check out your recommendation. I loved it! 👍

Well, you might want to have a little chat with danoff about what exactly the commercial was selling:

danoff
You said commercials should be used to sell products. I was explaining how the budweiser commerical was doing exactly that. It was using national pride to sell products.

And danoff if you dare to try and say you were being sarcastic with that comment, I swear I'm loading my blaster cannon and ridding the world of you.

Seriously, though. That commercial had NOTHING to do with beer or selling anything. WHICH IS WHY IT HAD NO PLACE AT THE SUPERBOWL!

Are we clear yet?

No need to get the blaster cannon out quite yet.

Not clear yet. It had every place at the superbowl because budweiser purchased the air time and can use it any way they want (within FFC regulations).

But it did have something to do with beer. It attempted to promote a wholesome image for the company. I'm certain that they didn't buy that airtime just to say thanks to the troops. They also thought it would be a good way to make their company look good and hopefully boost sales.

I still say it's low. And inappropriate. But perhaps I need to be American to understand the relationship between beer and war. Canadians only understand the relationship between beer and peace.

Canadians only understand the relationship between beer and peace.
Alcohol has been used throughout history in order to give soldiers on the front lines the chemical courage required to attack a line of enemies who are already aiming their weapons at them.

Can you understand the connection between patriotism and corporate image? How about the relationship between corporate image and sales?

Nevermind, I was trying to end this futile argument on a comic note, but it doesn't seem to be working.

You were trying to get another jab in and you're pretending that you tried to end the conversation.

I still say it's low. And inappropriate.

So corporations being patriotic is low and inappropriate.... nice.

No, corporations using the friggin WAR to sell friggin BEER is low. No, correction, it's DISPICABLE. And I wasn't pretending to do anything. I don't have to pretend. I was trying to make a joke because this is going nowhere, but you obviously want to argue some more, so let's do it.

So what if Dupont advertized that they donated money to help with Tsunami relief, or that their products helped firefighters on 9/11? What if Ford ran a commerical praising the US for its generosity in helping with the Tsunami victims?

Why is it not ok to advertise that your company has certain values, or applauds certain activities?

(Edit: Does anyone else on the board have a problem with this superbowl commerical or is it just anderton?)

The commercial is actually pretty good, but its intentions are dubious. Airing it during the Superbowl was a mistake in my opinion. That's as simple as I can put it.

And who cares who else has a problem with the ad? Are you implying that if its only me then my opinions, beliefs and thoughts on the matter are irrelevant? Explain yourself.

I was just wondering. :)
