I have to say, that was pretty impressive. At the risk of some understatement, I guess that guy knows that game pretty well.

No kidding. During those War ship levels on World 8 he gained something like 80 lives

I think I was more impressed by that than by beating the game so quickly.

Yeah...Thats easy. Even I know how to get those flute thingies before. But certainly couldnt get to level 8 in 2 min. Maybe 7 min for me if im lucky.

Speaking of which, I should plug in the ol' Nintendo and fire her up.:D

Mind telling me how to get that first flute im not 100% sure of how he got it

One of my friend's oldest brothers was this good with Super Mario 1. It was amazing to watch him play. But there are things I'd rather be doing.

I saw it. I was shocked at the way how he easily got life power-ups.

Don't be this guy probably has been playing this stuff all his life. He probably rarely leaves his parents basement. If you go to that website they show at the end of the video I think their are links to other games where he did similar stuff.

If your willing to dedicate alot of hours to try this than if you try and perfect each level its kind of like playing an instrument. You just start memorizing these things and it starts coming naturally. you would also need a firm knowledge of all the shortcuts involved in the game. Lastly you would need to pick a game where they designed in things that would allow you to go really fast like that.

All in all this guy really needs to get out of is parents basement. Games are fun but theirs a point where you need to stop and get some sun.

I've always been the SMB3 maniac in my surroundings, knowing more stunts and tricks than anyone I had ever met. And this SMB3 game is the first that downright ****ing amazes me.

The video is flawless, and cheat free.

He always does everything so that no time is lost. Notice how in level 8-1 he gives a twist to his jump at the card so that he scores a mushroom and not a star, to avoid the "long" 5up scene. It's the fastest way to have a non-star item, too. Also, he uses his star (item) in the level that it would cut the most in time, the level 8 fortress, and so on.

Not only he keeps it as short as possible, but he also adds a bunch of real cool stunts that are often not necessary. The most obvious is the total control over the cannons in the auto-scrolling levels to the point of earning beyond 99 lives in all. I already had like 60 or so, but him, he's overwhelming. Also, when he stomps on an enemy and he has a fire flower, he often takes the care of killing it twice (stomp kill + fireball kill) for no other reason than making a good stunt. On 8-1, there are 4 turtles that he doesn't only stomps on to bounce, but he also kills them with a fireball, FOR FUN. Not to mention the last turtle that he takes out with a fireball, on his way at full speed, just for the hell of it!

He also perfectly masters shooting two fireballs at the same time to the point of doing it AND bouncing on Bowser. It 'could' be a turbo button, but if it is, well he's good at switching from normal mode to turbo mode, cause you can't run on turbo mode. And watch how he manages to keep his P meter full when passing through a door in a castle, by bouncing a couple times right when he appears. That's HARD. His performance in the fortress of world 8 is the best example of that.

It's amazing to watch, but it's even more amazing to try and reproduce what he did, cause this **** is TECHNICAL. Just try the first leap in level 1-1, it may give you an idea on how even harder it is than you thought. You jump on the ? block, fill your P meter and THEN jump over the Pirhana plant, so that when you land, you're running full speed. But to do so you've got to give a *small* hit backwards while jumping so that the Pirhana Plant doesn't hit you.

Before this video I stand amazed, and filled with the urge to pop in my SMB3 cartridge and try some new stunts.

the whole thing is faked
the guy who did it admitted to it, he slowed down the time on the emulator to one thirtieth of a second so he could do all the things in there perfectly...it took him 2 years to do the whole thing...that in itself deserves a ton of credit

Too bad. Nerdy as it would be to have a record like that it was still nice to know it could be done.

Now that I know about the existence of emulators and what they can do, yeah, I guess it could have been tinkered with. It's still brilliant though, and a lot of work. The Mario game is close to being possible, but not the Gradius game! Humanity has its limits :)
