The quality of WMV is rubbish compared to DivX and XviD, I've tried the encoder and it's not good with quality vs filesize imo. DivX is very easy to use, most players come with it ready to play out of the tin, and XviD is just a download away. Also remember when you download a codc you need to restart that program or any open programs that play video in order for the codec to take effect.

[+] ...after playing around with the advanced functions of the encoder, I can now achieve around the same results as DivX/XviD, WMV just takes so long to encode is all.

How come your video have a slower frame rate & only last 4min & take almost 60MB at a resolution of 512 x 288?

The WMV that I previously post is at 640 x 360, feel smoother, last for 5min & take only 40MB.

PAL vs NTSC, PAL 25fps NTSC 30fps. You record from S-Video = Higher quality. Just played around with the advanced section of WMV encoder and got some not bad results for a change.

Just did a test:
DivX = 58Mb
XviD = 58Mb
WMV (encoded at 3Mpbs) = 90Mb * 0.66 = 2Mpbs which is 60Mb.

So in conclusion they're all about equal but the one thing I do not like is WMV takes so long to encode. The above 2 files were about 4 mins each, the WMV took 16mins.

Plus I don't get what you mean by smoother, I'm playing them side by side and both vids are playing fine to my eye (yours and mine). I am also encoding to 2Mbps bitrate which makes for slightly better quality due to the input I am capturing from. I will do a test as I have a very cool spot for just blasting down avoiding traffic by inches while hitting over 150mph consistently and see if what I can get from that.

At this moment in time though, good quality is about 20Mb per 1min of footage at 2Mbps bitrate.

The reason for 512x288 is that PAL Widescreen is 1024x576 usually so I just halved that to get the 512x288 sticking to the 16:9 format of typical widescreen. :)

You'll see what is WMV at 2Mbps a whole difference of quality. :P

It's far above the quality you did with TDU video. ;)

Are there any videos that work that I can check out of this game? The one I tried of yours yesterday _aj never worked for me. Is there a wmv vid I can watch? Im not real concerned about video quality for now, I just want to see how the game play is.

If it doesn't I will start using WMV as at least I can now get similar results compression/quality wise and as far as I know everyone can play it.

_aj That Gallardo video worked perfect for me. Thanks for posting. Looks like this game really could have some excellent potential. It would be really fun just driving around then going off road whenever you wanted with no invisible walls. That video really gave me the feel of GTA. 👍 Just imagine how good the next GTA is going to be!!

DivX or WMV it is then, glad you enjoyed the vid.

Well, I was impressed and disappointed at the same time.

The 👍:

  • Awesome graphics.
  • Great cars.
  • There's an open world, and in the final game there'll be more than a 1000 miles of road to speed on. And I like the fact I can go into my own backyard and do donuts. :dopey:
The 👎:

  • The framerate is crappy, since the game is like a slideshow, whether cruising, or racing against 4 other cars.
  • The online wasn't even working. I'll try tomorrow, maybe I'll be able to race against other people, and then I'll comment on this more in-depth.
  • The cops are dissapointing. There's a roadblock every 1/4 mile, and when you hit the cops, they don't cops fly and flip, they slide. Not a tire get's off the ground, even though I hit them at 140 MPH. And when you get caught, even after wrecking countless civilian cars and police cars, and driving off-road for a half minute straight, and speeding down a street at 160 MPH, and constantly evading the cops, you just get a ticket, and you're on your way. Heck, the cops don't even try to pull you over. They just chase you.
  • There's no damage, only for the normal traffic cars, but at least some shattered glass and scraped bumpers for the cops AND the normal player cars would be nice.
  • And finally, no pressure sensitive buttons. You either floor it or you don't move at all. And when you try to brake, then reverse, you have to press the brake trigger, and then you have to press it again to reverse. It just countlessly annoys me.

But, I know this is only a demo, and this isn't the final product anyway. I'll probably buy it, knowing that I love an open world in racing games (not to mention that this will be twice as big as the Need for Speed open worlds). It might look like that there's a lot more cons than pros, but I'm just nitpicking. All the 👍 listed above really impressed me. This will be a guaranteed rental, if not a straightaway buy, like any of my other 360 games (that I love and play a lot).

mh, i've seen civilian vehicles get off the ground in that vid, so police cars should be able to do that, too?!

and i would prefer cops that only chase you over those from other games that go all suicidal.

Thanks Camaro, appreciate it. Anyway here you go guys, the first 15mins of TDU demo including a test drive of all the cars, messing around with them and also a race. No police chase in this one, got mixed up with another video I captured later.

Enjoy !!

I had no slow down, but the game feels real when you control the cars at fast or slow speeds. Some cars do take more strength then others to turn at slow speeds, you don't just turn right away in some cars.

You need to use strength like in real life when using a steering wheel.

You don't use the triggers for acceleration/breaking? There is plenty of break/acceleration control with those.

Doing the gears in manual helps a bunch too (takes some time to get used to though, it's a little weird as the buttons are different than usual...).

The developers actually gave some pretty good reasons as to why your car does not get damage.

One includes the fact that someone online can come out of nowhere, and smash your brand new car you just bought.

I use the triggers, but it's really hard to modulate the throttle. I can't just cruise up to 60 MPH and hold it there, I can only launch to 60 MPH, and keep on going from there. I guess that it has some control, but it sucks IMHO compared to Forza, or PGR3, or even NFS:Most Wanted. :indiff:

Yeah I heard about that on GameSpot, i was laughing when they said that.

Some of the bugs I found on the online mode were so terrible it was hilarious.

At the end of each race, when the camera views another car finished as well, the car slides sideways constantly, across grass, road, fences at a constant speed. Once it rolled over, and over, and over, still moving side ways. Then, it would reach the end of the demo flooring and sink through the floor.!!!

Other than that and a few other glitches, it was pretty good and fun to race other people. 👍

That's a fine list, glad to see that theres more TVR's ;) hopefully the mighty Speed 12, Typhon and Sagaris will be among the remaining 4, though the Typhon is the least likely to appear in the game of thoes three.

We shall have to wait and see.
And also noting, I have made the list a little cleaner, to minimize any difficulty reading it.

The 4 extra TVR's which I would like to see in game are: Speed 12, Sagaris, Typhon and the TVR Griffith 500.

*** New Vid ! ***

Alright guys here's the vid I promised, it's taken a fair amount of time to get done (about 6 hours, 3 of them just encoding) but it's available. Hope you enjoy it, and watch for some of the really close misses and some great and some umm debateable car control. lol Note the driving aids are switched off and watch how the car reacts in certain instances.

Please right-click > save as.

Done in WMV, takes ages to encode but at least everyone can play it.
