Even native English speakers have the problem. Nothing to be ashamed about.

I actually have to comb my articles to make sure I refer to the electric drives as motors and the gasoline motors as engines. :D
Haha, Yea. I do it by force of habit. It's familiar to me.

I don't agree with everything they do, but I really appreciate the fundamentally different way Tesla approaches the business of automobiles. It's unbelievably refreshing, especially in the land of the largely faceless big 3. Keep going you crazy South African.

I think Elon is making a very large case for being one of the most influential people in history. The guy is straight getting things done these days. HUGE fan of his, not only with Tesla but with SpaceX and now the hyperloop stuff. Can't wait to see what else he comes up with.

While I don't want to speak to soon, he keeps reminding me of Howard Hughes. Sometimes the world just needs a Howard Hughes.

The real question is of course: Why is it called motorsports when you use engines and not motors? :p

In either case, living in Norway, a P85D isn't actually completely unrealistic for me to get. If I just wasn't poor as ****. I'm just hoping my current car lives long enough for tesla to release their Model III. Maybe even a Model III-D. It'd be cool to tell people you're driving a 3D, and all wheel drive is extremely helpful in norwegian winters.

More Tesla news.

I saw that just a bit ago and that's pretty interesting. I think it's going to sell really well here.

-edit-
Here's a question I think is a bit interesting. These dual-motored cars would naturally be classified as "4wd" cars in for example gran turismo, but what do you guys think is the most sensible way to classify the single motored models? RR? MR? Something else?

I guess technically the motor is at the back and it is rear wheel drive, but it doesn't really share any other characteristics with other RR cars, so is there a point in classifying them as RR?

Not really. The motors are so light relative to ICEs, it doesn't really matter. The bulk of the powertrain weight is the battery pack(s). In the Tesla, these are arranged as part of the skateboard, so it's distributed over the whole car.

If you really wanted to get down to brass tacks, you could measure the center of mass or center of gravity, and then call it an MR car since it'd be between the axles.

But some vehicles in GT6 do not have a drivetrain classification. They're just listed as "----"

The Escudo's been 4WD since GT2, and it has two motors. So yeah, I guess that doesn't change things for D's.

If we wanted to get nit-picky, I'd label the single-engine models RR, as that's where the motor is mounted. The battery pack is that big surfboard surface, sure, but that's where the engine draws its power, in much the same way an ICE draws off the gas tank. Which doesn't figure into the drivetrain classification.

Why just enter one, when they could create Electric Drifting Championship?

Seriously, Model S vs Fisker Karma drift battle would be awesome.

Probably too much torque and not enough top end power to sustain high speed drifts like that.

If you can do quick change batteries it could work.

The cars would need about double the power and weigh about 3/5-3/4 as much as they currently do.

Also have you heard a drift car? It's like watching NASCAR just better.

So, the Model X SUV that's supposed to come out.......unless they plan on having different trim levels that do or do not have the gull-wing doors, then I'm pretty sure they scrapped them. Saw someone getting into one a couple times today and it had normal doors on it.

It could be just a test vehicle.

Well it is a test vehicle, but not sure why they would put normal doors on it. I had suspected that they got rid of them for a while because this car doesn't have the gull-wing door lines that go into the roof somewhat.

I mean, I guess that there's several versions of it with conventional doors as previously stated, but car makers do different things on prototypes all the time.

I see what you are saying (I should know, I work on prototype cars every day) but I just don't see it being the case with this car so close to production.

I could definitely use a bigger gear for high speed stuff but the main problems are the street suspension and lack of a handbrake. Also a complete lack of aural and tactile feedback from the "engine" certainly doesn't help. When drifting, the sound of the engine is a big deal to help the driver carefully modulate the throttle. You're not always at 100% throttle ya know.

Yes. Do you not like the video?

No, it's that I thought something new about the car was being discussed like another trim or something, not a vid of a slow drift due to the sheer amount of torque the car creates. So I was asking to make sure I didn't miss something and it looks like I haven't.
