The AI thread

Watch the AI sequence from 0:33 onwards. The Black Mustang Trans Cammer hangs out the rear end nicely :sly:

I read how the AI is much improved and wondered if there is a setting for AI difficulty. Mine seems to be set on slow. Im only doing the easier challenges at the moment but even so my AI is stupidly slow. I did the FR challenge earlier the AI cars have 200BHP+ and I did it easily with a standard MX5 (about 130bhp i think). Im not bragging because I know im not the best driver in the world but for me the AI is something that gets in the way for the first 3 corners then the race is just a time trial. When I do matched car races like the Ferrari one on Monza im finishing at least 10 seconds infront of the first AI car. Since its only a 2 lap race then the AI is a whole 5 seconds a lap (at least) slower than me. Any help appreciated cause im getting bored quickly!

How do you think the new AI in GT5 compare to the old AI in GT5P. i think its quite a few steps up, for instance, they now are possible to spin, no longer stagnant magnets,
They become tail happy, there a bit more aggressive, they will avoid you more.

What i don't like, is there still to slowish around corners.

Improved Opponent AI Algorithm

The search range of opponent AI has been expanded and their intelligence algorithm has been improved.

So how is it? anyone test yet?

Not yet, still downloading... but it will be the first thing I'm gonna test for sure.

The AI as it was (still is?) is crap...

What's a "search range" ???

Can report they go faster and are slightly more aware and willing to give up a position if you stick the nose up the inside of the corner (mostly). In the subaru seasonal a GTR bumped me in the back at turn one and I wasn't going slow.

search range must be what they can see like the distance around them.

I did a nascar at Lemans race, and never was able to get first place, even after driving hard, i managed 6th, also with some more races, it seems like the leaders are the fastest, where the rear of the pack are alot slower.

The AI no longer slows down to a crawl when you're on their rear bumper. Definitely a noticeable improvement :)

Heh, I've noticed no change in this behaviour. Admittedly I've only done a few A-Spec races in the Expert category and a wet-weather A-Class arcade race, so they weren't much cop anyway. Basically, the AI feels as schizophrenic to me as it did after the 1.07 (?) update; that is super-ambitious under braking, but timid when side-by-side, allowing you to pass by slowing down!

Oh man! I can't wait to see that, this behavior would drive me nuts!! no pun intended....time will tell..almost done with work!!

Finally! AI does not sucks any more. Big improvement guys. Thanks PD. Now waiting for replay control, endurance in-race saving, multiple setups.

The way I've experienced it, they're overall faster, and don't slow down as much when you're trying to overtake them, although they still do.

Single player is more of a challenge, although this is ill timing considering I already finished like 97% of the game. :(

Still, this is a good step forward.

It's definitely faster. Races I won before with certain cars I wasn't able to win again. Great challenge ahead

The AI in liscence test are better, I know this because i had to completely restart my game after the YLOD.

Improved Opponent AI Algorithm b.s.

Not sure where people are seeing the difference. Arcade, hardest level, damage on, no assists, AI is just as bad as before. Get within half a car length or less through a turn and the AI drops off the throttle just like before. Bummer, was really hoping for an improvement in this area. 👎

Yes, there faster on Straights and more prone to overtake, But on a turn, their still to slow going around it, its gotten better, But now the need more Speed and guts, their driving around turns like its competitive driving school instead of a race track. i mean they have become a little quicker around the turns...but not by a great margin, biggest improvement is speed, and avoiding, on straights and medium curves...but when it comes to a semi-to hard curve no. But at least they are getting better.

Plus do you know what algorithm means? has nothing to do with speed, but Precise calculations and intelligence meaning avoiding you and other cars, range just means their more aware of you at close range in head on collisions and spin outs. hopefully more speed and toughness will be key in the next update.

The speed through the turn isn't the issue, the problem is the complete drop in throttle when you close the gap. If you don't get too close the AI holds a consistent (slow but on the gas at least) pace. In a real track day you want to get as close as possible so you can attempt to pass coming out of the turn down the straight. Common theme for track days since car HPs and driver levels are a lot different. Problem is the AI drops the throttle if you get too close mid turn. Almost like they stalled the car or ran out of gas at that exact moment. If they would at least stay consistent I could work with that.

Thanks for the heads up on what an AI applied algorithm means. Who would have thought throttle and brake behavior would not apply to the equation.

That's too bad, I was really hoping for a fix to this problem too, as it is the number 1 biggest problem with racing them right now. I can't test atm due to technical difficulties but I had so hoped to at least hear that this one thing has been fixed. Oh well, maybe there will be another patch coming soon, although they had plenty of time for this one and it worked just fine until the last set of patches broke it. I guess they like it like this.

The slow down when you're close to overtaking them is still there, but not as bad as before.

Yea but they still let off the gas...i mean you can hear the engine just drop in sound and your like "why did he just give up".

Well after a 6 lap single make race on a custom Eifel track, which I wasn't familar with, I thought the AI was great!

Much more fun now. The 2 cars up at front dicing with me, and the field spread out with 2-3 cars battling each other, numerous position changes. Felt very much like an online race

The AI drives as if there is nobody else in the race. It is like toy trains on rails and they'll follow that path even if it means kicking your ass in a turn or a crash.

^ I disagree, I was dicing with plenty of them and they acted quite human like since the update

Try this, get in front of a dummy, start slowing down in a turn and watch it smashing your back! It will keep a constant speed as if you weren't there. Also they never try overtaking you outwards in a turn. Great AI!

All these and many more observed after the update too.
