General Techniques for racing in the rain
Focus on being smooth and not trying to fight the car too much. Much like driving in snowy conditions, turning the wheel more when sliding is not the best technique. Unwind the steering input a bit, then slowly give more input again. Easy on with the throttle, easy off. I can not stress how much being smooth is key to being successful in rain racing. This isn’t meant to say that you don’t need fast hands and to make quick adjustments. For some corners, you’ll benefit from squaring off the corners. What I mean by this is position your car so that you can be on the throttle earlier than if you took the standard dry line, thus allowing you to carry more speed on the straight. If using the traditional dry line, you probably will be gently on and off the throttle application prior to track out where the car would be fully pointed in the right direction. Using the “squaring off” technique, you can be full throttle much sooner. It’s not a technique that will work in all corners in all situations, but certainly is useful in some situations. Again, experiment.

20190115_181338[1].jpg 20190115_175445[1].jpg I ran Noel's rain race at LeMans for the first time and finished 3rd. I did 3 360s and ended up in the sand pit once. You really have to pace yourself when passing the AI. I got hit from behind and that's why I did the 360's. The fish tails from the AI are terrible. You have to stay to the outside so you can see. You have to be in the right mindset as this is not your typical race.I was very surprised at the grip the RS tires have. Braking early and lightly.

EDIT: Ran it again but not totally clean as I rear ended one of the AI in one of the chicanes. You can win this race but I think you have to change your driving style and mindset. It is really easy to run over the AI if you aren't very careful.

NOT THE TRADITIONAL LINE
The traditional racing line on the track doesn't always work in the wet. The racing line tends to have oil and rubber on the track making it slippery with water present. The main reason there can be less grip is the aggregate in the track surface is less sharp as it has been polished. Similarly with street courses the road is polished by all the cars and street tires passing over.

In the wet you sacrifice the traditional line for grippier parts of the track. Often this means driving on the outside of turns or mid track in some sections. Try to keep your braking in a straight line and take the grippiest line you can that will allow you to get on the throttle as soon as possible, in a straight line if possible.

So why don't people drive those lines in the dry? Because they don't always result in the smoothest arc or highest speeds possible. Yes the lateral grip achievable might be higher but you have to compromise the turn or cornering speed and therefore a slower overall lap time.
SMOOTH INPUTS
Racing in the rain is great practice for driving in the dry. In the rain you want to be smooth with your inputs gas, brake and steering. You want to drive smoothly managing the balance and weight transfer of the car. Jerky quick movements should only be used to react to slides or save the car from a spin.

Practicing @skeagracing rain challenge.:banghead: First win against the required line up. Not clean by any means.:nervous: I'm having to change my driving style completely. This is a real challenge. I won all the rain master races way back when GT6 came out, but not completely clean. I have been rear ended, side slammed, you name it. I have spun, 360's, in the sand , into the guardrails you name it. Is everybody practicing????????????? :nervous:
