The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion---Discussion Thread

Yea I did the fighters guild for a little bit, and the mages guild. But, the Dark Brotherhood is just a little more exciting.

Sorry for the blurriness, but the game is rubbing off on me.

Haha, what is that, some sort of history assignment?

Yeah, History class. I took it with my 4 year old camera phone, so, sorry it sucks. And, yes, I turned it in. (Albeit with the correct answer on the second line, lol.)

is there a good place where you can get a large number of lockpicks?? I always seem to run out at the worst time and it's usually too risky to try and get the key to whatever place I'm working in. Also what the hell was "the sunken one" that I killed in sandstone cave, the game doesn't really give you much info about it along with those "will-o-the-wisps"

1. You can find Shady Sam just outside of the Imperial City Walls, near the Chestnut Handy Stables. He sells lockpicks, potions, and poisons.

2. This is part of a quest. Read through this for additional information:

As far as those "will-o-the-wisps", they are annoying and can be found throughout the land, but you need the Glow Dust that they drop for at least one Daedric Quest.

never mind about the lock picks, I have the skeleton key :) Anyone know what the giant hourglass in the basement of the imperial castle does? when you use the action button it has a red mist around it for a second and then stops. I wonder what the significance of all the giant objects down there is.

Man this game is cool. I just got my copy of it about 1 hour ago, ive just got out of the sewers. Any tip 4 a noob?

It has something to do with the Thieves Guild quests.

I don't know if you have prior experience with RPGs, but the leveling aspect in Oblivion is somewhat different from that found in other games that I have played. To start with, the items/armor/weapons/enemies that you encounter will change (get better/stronger) as you gain levels. In order to increase your character's level, you must gain any combination of 10 skill increases among the seven major skills that you selected when you created the character. Having done so, you must go to sleep (an hour will do), and you will gain a level. At that time, you will be given an opportunity to increase some of your character's attributes.

These attributes are Strength, Intelligence, Willpower, Agility, Speed, Endurance, Personality, and Luck. If you have increased specific skills properly, including your minor skills, you may get up to five (5) bonus points to add to some of your attributes per level-up. There is a very detailed leveling guide available on Gamefaqs, but I never bothered to level up 'efficiently', and I have not had any problems so far.

My character is currently at Level 27, with a Luck of 60, and I have postponed completing the main quest until I get all of the different Sigil Stones that I want (there's about 30+ different Sigil Stones). The highest level, Transcendent Sigil Stones only appear after your character is at least Level 17 I believe. You can save just before you grab a Sigil Stone, and if you don't like the one you got, reload and try again.

At my present level, I am finding lots of useful Enchanted Rings, Amulets, Armor, Swords, etc., at my two favorite hunting grounds: Lake Arrius Caverns, and Crayfish Cave. The Mythic Dawn Acolytes at Lake Arrius, and the valuable loot in the containers at Crayfish Cave, like in most cases, will re-spawn after about 3 gamedays, or so.

ok heres another riddle, there is a plant called the pitcher plant, seems to be very rare as I've only seen it outside 2 forts, and I haven't been able to harvest a single one out of maybe 20 tries, the plant isn't in the official guide.
if you are looking for a good place to loot use blueblood fort near the black marsh, the enemies are easy to take down if you sneak and regenerate very quickly, its a small fort without much in the way of chests, however if you go in with plenty of encumbrance to spare, you can easily clear out the fort and take all the leveled armor and weapons to the near by city to sell of. since I'm at a high level, theres plenty of glass and ebony gear that sells for a pretty penny.

This game is so massive. im curently stalking a guy who sells stolen goods in the main city.

just checked on the pitcher plant, apparently its the only plant in the game that doesn't have an ingredient listed and cannot be harvested, most on the oblivion wiki are saying it might be a glitch.

Ohhhh...

Releases Oct. 7
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000TVT7U4/?tag=gtplanet-20
Also included in the Game of the Year edition are Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles expansion, adding new and unique quests and content to the already massive world of Oblivion.

For all the newer ps3 owners, you'll be hard pressed to find a game with more value than this content crammed package :)

I will be getting it and keeping the original in case they fixed the exploits but i know bethesda didn't to. I have logged many hours without playing the main quest.

Not double-dipping a game, sorry. I hardly ever double-dip DVDs, and those are only twenty bucks. No way in hell I'm doing it for sixty. Besides, advertising Knights of the Nine is redundant, since the original PS3 release included that one. This one's good for people who don't already own the game, but not for those that already have it.

It has Shivering Isle expansion and all the PC/Xbox add ons.

All the content on live adds up to around $50.00. Trade in the old game and it will cost all of around $35.00 for $50 of add ons and over 50+hours of extended gameplay and new items.

What the?! Just stumbled across the Amazon video game bestsellers list and Oblivion PS3 is #1.

Obviously that means it is number 1 on the movers and shakers list as well with a cool 29,600% increase in sales. Great game and it definitely deserves to sell well, but I still kinda have a hard time understanding how it could go from #297 to #1 overnight solely based on a price drop alone. :odd:

well I hope they release these extras on the store separately since I'm quite happy with my old copy

Actually it is the original version that is selling so well, not the GotY Edition. That one is only around #150 or so.

And the last I read Bethesda sounded optimistic that they would be able to resolve their issues (although I have no idea what those issues were) with Sony and get Oblivion content available on the PSN soon.

is the shivering isles the only expansion in the game that we can't get or do they have the other small expansions as well?

All I know is what is stated on the offical Elder Scrolls website:
Oblivion GotY includes the original version of the award-winning RPG, Oblivion, along with the official expansion, The Elder Scrolls® IV: Shivering Isles™, and the downloadable content, The Elder Scrolls® IV: Knights of the Nine™

And yes the GotY Edition is $60.

Its only $30 now so Its a good deal even though the game is over a year old.
Actually if you check out the images I attached, earlier today it was down to $20. Although it has since gone back up to $30 it is still at #1 on the best sellers list. Either way I agree that it is an excellent deal given how good the game is even without the expansions.
