Just finished Gurren Lagann...I need to go seek out something happy and diverting, that ending, guys. That ending...

@CoffeeGrunt, I'd say Azumanga Daioh, but the ending to that always makes me feel a bit sad. Try Haruhi Suzumiya if you can put up with the creepy way that Mikuru gets sexualised, otherwise just watch FLCL.

Wait, what the hell am I saying. Just watch FLCL*, damn it.

*Remember to watch it in one sitting.

You're in the UK right?

Yeah, I ordered Anime Limited's Region 2 Gurren Lagann DVD when it first went up. They had it ridiculously cheap on Amazon so I just went for it.

Anyway, since I mentioned Haruhi in my last post, is it just me who thinks that whoever did the character animations for Haruhi should have somehow won an Oscar for best actor?

I really hope they don't mess up this show too. It seems each time they release a more special edition of something, they mess up more with video quality. Kamisama Kiss, Serial Experiments Lain, and Psycho-Pass all had issues.

And before anyone gets on me for "Oh but you won't see it! I didn't see it or get bugged by it, so nobody else will or should!", I popped in SE Lain about a month ago, the banding was clear as day 10 feet away from my 32 inch Vizio. I can only wonder how bad it'd be viewing that on the 80 inch monster TV in the living room.

It seemed so out of character to me. Well of course it is.

Which means hey, I've been watching Kill la Kill. Saw so many of you talking about it in here, or so it seems, that I decided to watch it. Started last week and finished up with what I'll assume the latest being episode 21. At first I kind of hated (weak use of the word) the show, it didn't appeal all that much. Until episodes 11/12 and 17 onward. I like story, and there was certainly some interesting story going on. The other episodes simply felt... empty to me. It's not that bad, in the end I still love the show. I'll certainly be finishing it to the end, of course.

I have run out of K-On and am experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

I haven't seen the movie, but it's pretty expensive at the moment, so I'll hold off on that for a couple of weeks (if I can stand to).

Poor Azusa. ;-; If there isn't a third series that adapts the two most recent manga volumes, then I'll be very sad. I want to see Azusa in her final year at high school, and the main four in college - and then another movie to bring the two storylines back together again for one massive finale. That'd be ideal, but there's no way of knowing whether or not a K-On!!! is in the works, let alone a second film.

I can always hope and dream that one day, they might finish it all up properly, anime-style.

Surely there's still commercial appeal left in the series? Surely that alone would be enough to persuade the studio to give it some investment? :/

That would be nice, but considering what is 'popular' now, that may never happen.

She was definitely a favorite character of mine. Mostly considering she was probably the only one that was closest to reality, she wanted to get things done. In a sense that the others seemed to be in their own little world doing their own things. Even if she was guilty of it herself at times. It did get on my nerves how repetitive their avoidance of simple practice became. A continuation would be nice though, especially if it went deeper into who Azusa was.

I wouldn't expect anything. A simple little slice of life show that was nice to watch after the usual violance, sexual themes, and the like in animes these days. Not saying it's a bad thing. It's poor attempts to get some sort of feelings or something became lame. But it wouldn't be the time anymore regardless, it's already passed.

Funnily enough, this was a show I watched because of this thread. Seemed to have been a rather disliked show enough for me to think "What's so bad about it?" And so I watched it all, and I don't believe it to be all that terrible and enjoyed it a little bit. But only a little bit. I'll bring up Azusa again, I feel she gave some life to the show in how she is set-up and how the other characters interacted around her. I'm probably over-doing it but whatever. :p

Finished Attack on Titan over the weekend. I already had the Limited Edition on order, the extra $30 for the FUNimation Collectors Edition isn't worth it to me. From what I gather it's the Limited Edition with little trinkets.

What I am shelling out for is the Toradora Blu-Ray!

There will never be a K-On! season 3, it's done, even though a third season would probably be quite successful. KyoAni is done with those kinds of adaptations basically at this point.

They instead focus on making what they want, which is something very, very, very few anime studios can do as most are unable to make what they want often, so they have to adapt stuff.

Just finished Psycho-Pass, and wow, what a show. Probably by far the most intriguing anime I've ever watched apart from Bebop. The societal themes that runs this show makes it a pretty mature series, and made the plot very profound. I have to admit that the former half of the show does not match the real conflict of the latter half but it's still a good way to know a bit about the characters. There's a lot of talking going around too, plus a bit of literature references so not a lot of people will comprehend everything they quote but the discussions are a must to understand. I personally don't think that you can watch it casually. To be honest the first half of the show disturbed me which actually made me put the show off for a week but after ep. 12 or so it gets hugely interesting.

The ending [spoilers] I had mixed feelings about. I have to admit that it's the best ending in terms of what comes out of it: The Sibyl system is retained, Makishima is gone for, and it seems like society will most likely be better off according to discussions from Akane and the system. The only reason I'm mixed is long-term: Obviously no system is perfect, but a society that is controlled by logic-bound brains based on measurements of Psycho-Pass & Crime Coefficient is one I hope doesn't arise in reality. I'm no philosopher nor a sort of scholar but the governments we see today are the closest we can get to order and freedom (well, some of them are... undesirable). There'll always be opinions on what's best but the Sibyl system establishes a notion already with their quantitative labels on citizens. The asymptomatic like Makishima I found to be the most interesting in this series b/c the Sibyl system is made up of them. I agree that individuals like Makishima will most likely not delve into the abstract and undebatable like good or evil but will have enough sense to establish a justifiable conclusion to societal affairs. Though their crimes are truly horrifying ones, their way of thinking is something that is unmatched, even Akane's, which I thought was the most level-headed character in the show. I figured Akane will not be a candidate in spite of accepting the Sibyl system b/c she still relies on human fallacies, as you can see with her mental breakdown of seeing her best friend die. That event actually turned Akane around, and spiked her true capabilities as an Inspector/Enforcer.
Makishima dying is one I agree on. Besides, he dies at the best place (he's obviously in euphoria at the top of that hill...) and dies in the hands of the best guy he can think of - Kogami. If Makishima was captured and given to the Sibyl system, I would theorize that the system would be no better nor worse. The system itself admits that there will always be asymptomatic people who can best the system, so losing Makishima and weighing Akane's incompetence in their cause decided their reasoning in the ending.
Pops dying was too terrible! I have lots of kudos in his judgment and contributions so seeing him die was very heart-wrenching. But I reluctantly have to see to it on saving his son. Any parents would save their kids from any kind of life-or-death situation. I still can't get over it...
Kagari's death was another terrible one, but not as much as Pop's. His death was indeed bloodier than needed to be but Sibyl's reasoning of taking him down was that he'll definitely reveal the system's true form. His outgoing personality reflects this well.
Kogami I have to say... is invincible! I mean, he got shot a dozen times yet he still lives! I mean, you gotta have genes of Superman to survive so many wounds! Anyway, I felt that in some ways he was like Makishima. Of course he didn't commit as many horrendous crimes as him but why would he take interest in Kogami? Their likeness is really a complex one, and why Kogami agrees to that I can't muster. He still kills Makishima b/c really his logic on everything cannot work in society. Plus his persistent rebellion will endanger society whether or not he incorporates himself into Sibyl.
[spoiler ends]

Honestly, I can talk a bit more about the show but I'm actually a bit exhausted of how much this show throws at you. I think Psycho-Pass is definitely one of my top anime and hopefully I can buy the disc set.

So, as I've finished Gurren Lagann, and Kill la Kill is steadily working towards a close, I'd like a list of good Anime to watch!

Something fun and silly, preferably, but I'd be okay with more serious stuff. So far I'm thinking FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Soul Eater, and Akira. Any others to throw on the pile?

Hmm... Watch FLCL and Bebop first, then you might perhaps want to consider these:

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is an absolute must see for anyone with an interest in animation or arthouse film/television, although it's about as far removed from fun and silly as one can get.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a classic anime, although not necessarily the best starting point, especially if you want something fun and silly, but if you're going to watch anime, you'll have to watch it sooner or later.

Azumanga Daioh is pretty much the definition of fun and silly, consisting almost entirely of jokes about cats.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is also worth a watch if you want something fun and silly, to be honest.

Axis Powers Hetalia is another show I'd recommend for fun and silliness.

Martian Successor Nedesico maybe?
